Three days after Li Ming's appointnt as National Disaster of Honor, the Empire began to behave… differently.
Not wisely. Just differently.

Li Ming was reading these with a serene cup of tea in the courtyard.
The tea was calm. He was calm. The palace was not calm.
Lan Yue burst in, scroll in hand, expression halfway between disbelief and a migraine.
"Li Ming, explain this!"
He looked up peacefully. "That's a scroll."
She glared. "This scroll! It says half the officials are forming sothing called the 'Balanced Faction!'"
"Ah yes," Bai Guo said, landing on the table with the smugness of a tax auditor. "I heard they start etings by chanting your na and burning paperwork."
Li Ming blinked. "I approve of the second half."
---
Lan Yue threw the scroll down. "They're quoting you, Li Ming. Every eting!
'Absurdity is balance misunderstood.' 'Ego is a spiritual constipation.' 'Paperwork is the body's way of saying "stop existing."'"
He frowned slightly. "I don't rember saying the last one."
"You didn't! Soone forged it, and it's now Imperial doctrine!"
Bai Guo squawked happily. "He's becoming a religion!"
Lan Yue grabbed her head. "He's becoming illegal!"
---
Monts later, an imperial ssenger burst through the courtyard doors, sweating like a mortal caught between gods and deadlines.
He fell to his knees. "Honored Disaster — the Emperor summons you to the Council Chamber imdiately!"
Li Ming sipped calmly. "I assu it's about my growing popularity."
"Yes!"
"Wonderful. Let's maintain it."
Lan Yue dragged him by the sleeve. "No. We're going to fix it."
Bai Guo fluttered after them. "Define 'fix.'"
"Stop people from founding cults in his na!" she snapped.
"Ah," the bird said sagely. "So: political damage control. My favorite kind of cody."
---
In the Council Chamber, the Emperor sat with the weary dignity of a man whose empire had discovered irony.
He gestured toward a mountain of reports. "Li Ming… explain."
Li Ming picked one up, skimd, and nodded approvingly.
"They're doing well. The 'Balanced Faction' even has an emblem — a yin-yang shaped like two arguing accountants."
"Half the court is joining them!" the Minister of Rites shouted. "They're abolishing chairs to promote humility!"
Bai Guo gasped. "They sit on the floor? Revolutionary!"
"They're banning formal greetings!" another cried. "They say 'bowing disrupts natural qi flow!'"
Li Ming blinked. "Technically accurate."
Lan Yue slapped her forehead. "Not helping."
---
The Emperor pinched his brow. "Li Ming… you've created a philosophical uprising."
Li Ming sighed softly. "I asked for balance, not bureaucracy reincarnation."
"You inspired it!" the Pri Minister wheezed. "Half the Empire is suddenly 'enlightened through confusion!'"
Li Ming frowned. "Impossible. That's my personal technique."
---
At that mont, the doors burst open — again — and a young noble stumbled in, out of breath.
"Your Majesty! The Balanced Faction has begun… protests!"
The room froze.
"Protests?" the Emperor repeated.
"Yes! They're marching through the streets chanting, 'Paperwork is the path to perdition!' and demanding everyone take naps to restore spiritual equilibrium!"
Li Ming nearly spat his tea. "They rembered the naps?"
Lan Yue hissed, "You inspired a nationwide rest rebellion!"
---
Bai Guo's feathers puffed proudly. "It's the most peaceful riot ever."
Indeed, outside the palace walls, thousands of nobles and commoners alike sat cross-legged on the streets, ditating loudly.
"Down with unpaid taxes!"
"Up with inner peace!"
"Let all reports achieve Nirvana by self-immolation!"
rchants joined in. Guards joined in. Even so imperial scribes sat down mid-complaint, whispering, "Let the ink find its own balance."
---
Inside the palace, chaos beca an administrative category.
The Minister of Defense roared, "This is madness! They've shut down three offices!"
Li Ming sipped calmly. "Efficiently."
The Emperor's eye twitched. "You call this efficiency?!"
"Of course," Li Ming said. "Everything unimportant has stopped. Which reveals what's actually important."
"And what's that?" Lan Yue demanded.
He gestured at the window. "Tea breaks. Apparently."
---
By afternoon, the entire capital was vibrating with peaceful disobedience.
Citizens were ditating in traffic. rchants were pricing "Zen vegetables."
One sect even started selling "Balanced Qi Candles" that slled like mild regret.
Lan Yue groaned. "You've turned philosophy into an economy."
Bai Guo laughed so hard he wheezed. "It's spiritual capitalism!"
Li Ming set his cup down, perfectly unbothered.
---
Hours later, an exhausted imperial ssenger arrived again.
"Honored Disaster! His Majesty has… reclassified your position."
Li Ming raised an eyebrow. "Already?"
The man unrolled the decree:
> "By Imperial Decree, Li Ming is hereby reassigned as the Acting Consultant for Controlled Chaos Managent."
Bai Guo gasped. "They made you the Minister of Disaster!"
Lan Yue rubbed her temples. "Congratulations. You've been promoted for damage you caused."
Li Ming nodded serenely. "Balance is cyclical."
---
As night fell over the city, lanterns glowed softly across streets filled with sleeping protestors.
For the first ti in years, the capital was quiet — because everyone was too busy restoring their qi through naps.
The Emperor watched from his balcony beside Eunuch Zhao, who whispered,
"Your Majesty, should we stop them?"
The Emperor exhaled slowly. "No. Let them rest. It's the calst the Empire's ever been."
---
anwhile, Li Ming lay under a tree in the royal gardens, gazing up at the stars.
Lan Yue sat beside him, muttering, "You're impossible."
He smiled faintly. "And yet… effective."
"Half the Empire is asleep!"
Bai Guo snored from a nearby branch. "Dreaming of democracy…"
Lan Yue turned her head, trying not to laugh. "You know what the worst part is?"
"What?"
"I think Heaven's watching this and taking notes."
Li Ming smiled at the sky. "Then may their paperwork be ever balanced."
---
(Part-2)
The capital's Grand Hall of Enlightennt was built for serious philosophical debate.
It had seen centuries of discourse — monks arguing over fate, scholars dueling with taphors, and one morable incident involving a philosopher who declared "reality is optional" and promptly vanished mid-sentence.
Today, it would see sothing far worse.
Li Ming.
---
"Announcing the Great Debate of Doctrine!" cried the announcer, his voice echoing off marble walls.
"Topic: 'Does Enlightennt Require Effort?'"
Bai Guo whispered, "You know, they invited you because they think you'll embarrass yourself."
Li Ming smiled faintly. "Then everyone's expectations are balanced."
---
On one side stood Li Ming, looking relaxed enough to be mistaken for soone napping with open eyes.
On the other side — the Righteous Scholars' Sect, twelve n in gold-trimd robes, each radiating the smug aura of a person who uses 'Dao' as a threat.
The lead scholar sneered. "You are the so-called 'National Disaster of Honor'? I heard your philosophy revolves around naps."
Li Ming sipped tea. "Incorrect. Naps revolve around ."
The audience blinked.
Lan Yue, watching from the seats, muttered, "He's starting early."
---
The scholar slamd his scroll. "Enlightennt requires diligence, discipline, and lifelong devotion! How can idleness lead to transcendence?"
Li Ming nodded. "I agree."
The scholar blinked. "You… do?"
Li Ming calmly poured more tea. "Of course. Diligence in resting. Discipline in ignoring nonsense. Lifelong devotion to peace of mind."
The scholar's mouth opened. Nothing ca out. The audience began murmuring.
Bai Guo whispered, "He weaponized laziness into logic again."
Lan Yue sighed. "At least it's coherent this ti."
---
A second scholar stepped forward. "Then how do you explain your followers skipping work in the na of balance?!"
Li Ming smiled. "Work without purpose is motion without aning. A farr may rest his ox, yet still reap his harvest."
The crowd ooohed.
The scholar's fan snapped in half.
The Emperor, watching from the balcony, rubbed his temples. "He's winning."
---
A third scholar tried a different approach. "What of study? Can a man attain wisdom through idleness?"
Li Ming raised a brow. "Wisdom cos from observation, not repetition. A man who watches ants learns patience. A man who reads about ants learns spelling."
Bai Guo nearly fell off the railing. "That's… actually profound."
Lan Yue whispered, "That's terrifying."
---
The lead scholar regained his composure and smirked. "You twist words, Li Ming. You hide ignorance behind cleverness."
Li Ming smiled mildly. "Of course."
Laughter rippled through the audience.
The Emperor tried not to laugh. He failed.
---
Realizing he was losing, the scholar changed tactics. "Fine! Let us compare results! My disciples have achieved enlightennt through rigorous ditation. What have you achieved?"
Li Ming tilted his head. "A full night's sleep."
The room erupted in laughter.
Even the guards were chuckling behind their halberds.
Bai Guo puffed his chest. "Victory through rest!"
---
But the scholar wasn't done yet. He roared, "Then let Heaven judge our philosophies!"
A gust of spiritual pressure filled the hall as he summoned his qi — radiant, righteous, blinding gold.
Lan Yue tensed. "He's invoking a Dao manifestation!"
Li Ming simply looked up at the shining aura, unimpressed. "Very bright. Must be compensating for sothing."
The scholar gritted his teeth. "Show your Dao, if you have one!"
Li Ming exhaled — and did nothing.
A long, confused silence.
Then… a breeze.
Soft, lazy, completely unforced.
And yet sohow, the scholar's golden aura flickered — like a candle realizing it was trying too hard.
Lan Yue's eyes widened. "He's… neutralizing the pressure?"
Bai Guo whistled. "With nothingness itself. Classic Ming move."
The scholar roared, "What trick is this?!"
Li Ming yawned. "Balance."
The scholar's aura collapsed.
---
The crowd exploded in cheers and disbelief.
Philosophers were scribbling notes like madn.
The Emperor leaned toward Lan Yue. "Is he… right?"
Lan Yue rubbed her temples. "I hate that he is."
---
After the debate, Li Ming walked out calmly while nobles and scholars argued behind him — so shouting about enlightennt, others about naps.
Bai Guo fluttered beside him. "You realize you just started a national philosophy?"
Li Ming nodded serenely. "Good. Balance was overdue."
Lan Yue sighed. "You turned the Empire's intellectuals into stand-up codians."
He smiled faintly. "Wisdom is best served with laughter."
---
That night, the headlines read:
> "Li Ming Declared Winner of Great Debate — Scholars in Shock, Emperor in Therapy."
"New Philosophical School Registered: Dao of Restful Clarity."
"rchants Begin Selling 'Balance Tea' for Enlightennt Discounts."
And the final line of the report read:
> "Citizens report improved sleep quality and reduced anxiety after listening to Li Ming's speeches. National productivity unchanged."
