Two days passed like slow torture.

Damien gave Elara the space she’d requested, though every hour of separation made the corruption worse. He stayed in his study, surrounded by research on Seria Thornwood, planning approaches that felt increasingly chanical as his emotional capacity eroded.

The corruption had stabilized at 7.7% – not increasing without power usage, but not decreasing either. He existed in a state of coldness that made tactical thinking easy and human connection nearly impossible.

His father visited once, took one look at Damien’s eyes, and quietly arranged for guards to monitor him. Not to protect others from him – not yet – but to ensure he didn’t do sothing irrevocable while in this state.

Margaret brought food he didn’t eat and spoke comforting words he barely processed.

And at night, alone in quarters that felt too large without Elara’s presence, Damien stared at the ceiling and tried to rember what loving her felt like beyond the value of anchor bond.

The mory was fading.

[CORRUPTION: 7.7%]

[DAYS WITHOUT ANCHOR CONTACT: 2]

[EMOTIONAL CAPACITY: 23% of baseline]

[WARNING: Extended separation from anchor extrely dangerous]

On the second night, near midnight, his door opened.

Damien’s hand went instinctively to the shadow blade that ford automatically – threat response, eliminate danger – before his struggling consciousness recognized her.

Elara.

She stood in the doorway, wearing a simple nightgown, face showing two days of crying and thinking and coming to difficult conclusions.

The mont he saw her, the anchor bond flared – desperate recognition, connection seeking connection. The corruption retreated slightly, and Damien felt emotions bleeding back in like color returning to a gray world.

Relief. Longing. Love. Guilt. All of it flooding through the numbness.

[ANCHOR CONTACT: ESTABLISHED]

[CORRUPTION: 7.7% → 7.2%]

[EMOTIONAL CAPACITY: RESTORING]

"Elara." His voice was rough from disuse. "You don’t have to – if you need more ti – "

"I’ve had enough ti." She closed the door behind her, moving into the room with determination that didn’t quite hide her pain. "And you look terrible. When did you last sleep? Eat?"

"I don’t rember." Honestly, he didn’t. The corruption made biological needs feel optional.

She moved to sit on his bed, and after a mont’s hesitation, he joined her, maintaining careful distance. Not presuming anything.

"I need to say sothing," Elara began, voice steady despite the emotion behind it. "And I need you to listen without interrupting. Can you do that?"

"Yes."

She took a breath, gathering her thoughts. "I’ve spent the last two days hating you. Hating myself. Hating the situation. Hating that after everything we went through together, after finally being free, after thinking it could be just us – " Her voice cracked slightly. " – after all of that, I have to share you."

Damien wanted to speak, to apologize, but he’d promised to listen.

"I was raised in the Church. Taught that jealousy is sin. That possessiveness is weakness. That love ans sacrifice." She laughed bitterly. "Never thought those teachings would serve like this. That the Church’s lessons about selflessness would help accept my lover needing another woman."

She turned to look at him, and her eyes were wet but clear.

"I’ve been thinking about freedom. About what it actually ans. The Church kept in a cage, and you freed from it. But what kind of freedom is it if I just build a different cage around you? If I demand exclusivity knowing that condemns you to losing yourself?"

[ELARA: PROCESSING THROUGH THEOLOGICAL FRAWORK]

[APPLYING CHURCH TEACHINGS IN UNINTENDED WAYS]

"You said you’re trapped by burdens," she continued. "That you need soone else to help free you from them, just like you freed from mine. And I realized – if I really love you, if I genuinely believe in freedom, then I can’t cage you any more than you could cage ."

"Elara – "

"I’m not finished." But her hand found his, squeezing gently. "I’m saying this is killing . That sharing you feels like being torn apart. That I hate this necessity even while I understand it. I’m not so saint who transcends jealousy. I’m human, and this hurts."

Determination was on her face now, along with tears. "But I’m also saying I love you more than I’m possessive. That I choose your survival over my comfort. That I won’t lose you to darkness when there’s a way to prevent it."

She cupped his face with her free hand. "I just hope – I hope you don’t love any less. That when you build this connection with her, whoever she is, that there’s still space for . That I’m not just the first anchor you’ll eventually replace – "

"Never." The word ca out fierce and desperate, and Damien pulled her close, the anchor bond strengthening with proximity and emotional honesty. "Never, Elara. You’re not replaceable. You’re not just an anchor. You’re – "

He struggled for words that the corruption hadn’t eroded. "You’re the reason I’m fighting. The reason I care about staying human. Every mory worth keeping, every emotion worth feeling, every mont that matters – they’re all tied to you. Another anchor might keep human, but you’re the reason I want to be."

[RELATIONSHIP AFFIRMATION: MUTUAL]

[ANCHOR BOND: STRENGTHENING SIGNIFICANTLY]

[CORRUPTION: 7.2% → 6.8%]

She was crying properly now, and he held her while she processed everything – the pain of sharing, the relief of his words, the exhaustion of two days fighting with herself.

"I’m scared," she admitted against his chest. "Scared you’ll fall for her more. Scared I’ll lose you even while trying to save you. Scared I’m not enough to compete with – "

"You’re not competing. It’s not a competition." He tilted her face up to et her eyes. "What we have isn’t diminished by what I build with soone else. The anchor bond doesn’t work like that. It’s not finite resource that divides. Each connection is its own thing."

"You’re saying you can love multiple people without loving any of them less?"

"I’m saying I don’t know. I’ve never done this." He managed a weak smile. "But I know what I feel for you isn’t changing. Isn’t negotiable. You’re the reason humanity matters."

She kissed him then – desperate, claiming, reaffirming their connection despite the complications. He responded with equal intensity, the anchor bond flooding with renewed strength.

When they broke apart, both breathing hard, Elara’s expression had shifted from pain to determination.

"Then we do this together," she said. "You pursue whoever you need to pursue. Build the connection that keeps you human. And I support it, even when it hurts, because the alternative is losing you entirely."

"You’re remarkable." He ant it completely.

"I’m terrified and trying to be brave." She smiled through tears. "But you freed from my cage. Fair is fair. I won’t cage you with jealousy."

[RELATIONSHIP STATUS: REDEFINED]

[ELARA: Accepting necessary polyamory]

[ANCHOR BOND: Restored to full strength]

[CORRUPTION: 6.8% (Significant improvent)]

They sat in silence for a mont, holding each other, feeling the connection that had sustained them both through impossible circumstances.

"Who is it?" Elara asked eventually. "Who’s the second anchor?"

Damien hesitated, then decided she deserved honesty. "Captain Seria Thornwood."

Elara blinked. "The woman who’s investigating you for demon collaboration? Who hates you? Who’s loyal to Aldric?"

"Yes."

"That’s – " She stopped, processing. "That’s going to be incredibly difficult."

"I know. But she’s trapped by her own burdens. By her father’s legacy, by duty, by the need to prove herself constantly. By suspicion that keeps her isolated even while she looks competent. Different cage than yours, but still a cage." He explained the logic carefully. "The anchor bond requires genuine connection. Mutual liberation. I can’t fake that or manipulate it into existence. She has to actually choose freedom, just like you did."

"And you think you can help her see that while she’s actively trying to prove you’re a threat?"

"I have to try. The alternative is losing myself completely."

Elara was quiet, thinking. Then: "I could help."

"What?"

"I could help you pursue her." At his startled expression, she continued. "Not in obvious ways. But I know her slightly – she’s been around during Church-guard coordination. I can provide insights, maybe create opportunities. If this is necessary for your survival, I want to help ensure it succeeds."

[UNEXPECTED DEVELOPNT: Elara offering to assist]

[STRATEGIC VALUE: HIGH - insider perspective]

[EMOTIONAL COMPLEXITY: EXTRE]

"Elara, you don’t have to – "

"I want to. Because if I’m accepting this, I might as well be useful about it." She smiled. "Besides, Seria is good person. Honorable. If you’re going to need another anchor, better soone worthy of it. Soone I can respect."

Damien didn’t know what to say to that. The generosity, the pain, the practical acceptance all tangled together.

"I love you," he said finally. "I know that’s inadequate given what I’m asking. But I need you to know – whatever happens with Seria, whatever connection I build – what we have is different. First. Foundational."

"Don’t make cry again." But she was smiling. "I’ve cried enough for two days."

He kissed her forehead. "Then let make you feel sothing else."

"Is that your way of asking for anchor reinforcent?"

"Therapeutic necessity." He pulled her closer. "Very important for corruption managent."

"You’re ridiculous." But she was already responding to his touch.

"You love it."

"Unfortunately, yes."
