"The Monitor..."

The mayor, standing in place, gazed distantly at countless zombies howling in the distance, his expression absently silent, not speaking. His thoughts at this mont were completely elsewhere—he speculated that there should be a Monitor from the high-dinsional civilization within the Federal Governnt.

There should be one, right?

After all, the cot that brought about the Transcendentalization of the federation had a high probability—up to seventy percent—of being sent by a high-dinsional civilization.

Since the high-dinsional civilization had expended so much effort on them, it would certainly send soone to check on their progress—or at least, that was his guess; he was unwilling to believe there were no Monitors, for that would an the high-dinsional civilization was unwilling to pay extra attention to them.

Within the federation, only a very few knew a shared secret.

Only the core of the Federal Governnt and the mayors of the major cities were privy to this information.

It was that in one year and one month's ti.

Or more precisely, on December 31st of the following year, a civilization would launch a major invasion of the federation, leading to a life-and-death struggle between the two civilizations. This information was obtained last year from a "Seer."

It was also a Supernatural Occupation.

Regarding this ssage, those privy to it were extrely pessimistic; they almost unanimously believed that in one year, humanity's civilization would face its doomsday.

This battle was simply unwinnable.

How could they possibly defeat a civilization capable of traversing ti and space? It simply wasn't a fair fight.

But even if they couldn't win, they couldn't just wait for death, so each city made its own preparations.

So cities planned to turn all their citizens into Supernaturals, others pooled all their resources into a few Supernaturals, hoping to cultivate a group of elite combat forces by the ti the battle began.

And Fengtian City was an important link in this chain.

The task or preparation of Fengtian City was to train a Gunslinger army. It was a Supernatural Occupation sowhat ineffective in secret realms yet potent on the real battlefield. At least, it was stronger than the brawlers charging in groups; the Gunslingers could stay back and die slower.

Over the years, Fengtian City had spent a lot of governnt funds acquiring basic Gunslinger Materials, skills, and props and so forth. To the others in the city governnt, like the vice mayor, he claid they were acquiring materials at a low price now to sell at a high price later.

But in reality, the true reason was simply to stockpile for the war.

These actions, however effective they might end up being in the face of an entire civilization, were probably utterly insignificant, and he knew well that they were useless—they would not save human civilization.

If only you knew about the impending doom of humanity, what would you do?

He admitted that he was just an ordinary person who couldn't think of a way to save humanity, and he certainly lacked the ability, so like a man possessed, he began to pour through history, searching for an answer within it.

In the end...

He actually found an answer.

Throughout history, whenever humanity faced certain events, there were always so who would arise to handle these matters. Take Huo Qubing as an example, who was born when the Huns were ravaging the Central Plains. In his early twenties, he repelled the Huns, and not long after accomplishing his mission, he died young.

It was as if his very purpose for being born was to fight the Huns, and once they were defeated, his mission completed, he also passed away.

Multiple instances like this occurred.

Every critical juncture always brought forth soone carrying such a mission.

And the upcoming civilization invasion was undoubtedly the biggest crisis Blue Star had ever faced. He guessed there might be soone with a mission, set to erge and save humanity once again.

This was just his speculation.

Until—

He encountered Chen Miao.

In his heart, the countless unfounded speculations that felt like imaginary answers suddenly seed to have found a formula, as if Chen Miao filled in all the previously illogical gaps.

Chen Miao was the one destined to bear the mission of saving human civilization.

He ca here with a purpose.

Saving the Federal Governnt was his mission.

Just like Huo Qubing.

This was his speculation, but he wasn't sure of it, he hadn't discussed it with anyone else, others would say he was being preposterous, even those from the Federal Governnt. He had shared his speculation with them a long ti ago, but no one believed him, saying that his speculation lacked any logic.

Logic?

If we really were to go by logic, humanity should have been extinguished countless tis throughout history.

The fact that humans have been able to continue to this point is precisely because they don't rely on logic.

"..."

With a calm expression, he turned and looked toward Chen Miao standing behind him in the crowd, inwardly making up his mind that, at least for now, he hadn't seen the Federal Governnt co up with any counterasures; he could only place his bets on Chen Miao.

He hoped that all the resources of Fengtian City could help this man, laden with a mission, grow faster.

So that in a year's ti, he might be able to help the Federal Governnt through the crisis of civilization invasion.

"No, that's not right..."

He suddenly stood frozen, his brain sowhat crashing, and he felt bewildered. If he didn't plan to allocate all of Fengtian City's resources to Chen Miao, would Chen Miao still be able to rise quickly?

Would he still be able to save the Federal Civilization?

Then, was the person carrying the mission Chen Miao, or was it himself?

Could it be that his mission was to help Chen Miao grow rapidly?

If in the future Chen Miao truly saved the Federal Governnt, would the reason be that Chen Miao himself was the one bearing the mission, or because he had directed a considerable amount of resources toward Chen Miao? If he wasn't there, could Chen Miao still save the Federal Governnt?

Wouldn't this be a paradox?

After standing still, with his brain frozen for a minute, the corners of the Mayor's mouth began to twitch wildly. He couldn't think about this any longer; it felt like he had wrapped himself up in it and couldn't untangle the thoughts; his brain was close to exploding. He even began to doubt whether he was a ssenger from a high-dinsional civilization.

After all, his thoughts were too absurd.

Difficult for the average person to accept.

"Fire!"

He decisively issued the command to fire, to bring everything back onto a normal track. For now, he would not think about those other issues. Apart from placing his hopes on Chen Miao, he had no other strategy.

Indeed.

While all cities were preparing for the civilization invasion, besides forming a gunslinger army and collecting Gunslinger Materials, his second asure was to find the person who bore the mission to save the Federal Governnt.

At least, that's what history said.

Now, it seed he might have found that person, but he needed to observe a while longer to see if Chen Miao's montum would continue to grow, or if he would quickly weaken.

Observation?

Was he also a Monitor from the high-dinsional civilization?

...

Chen Miao was unaware of the Mayor of Fengtian City, who had descended into a frenzy in the distance. Instead, with a slightly damp back, he stood still without speaking, not expecting that soone would go to the trouble of checking surveillance to look into his past traces of life.

For this, he had only two words to express his feelings: speechless.

But the Mayor's words just now were quite interesting.
