Alina’s tily and surprisingly familiar intervention was just enough to pull Princess Monica back from the brink of her explosive rage.
The princess took a deep shuddering breath.
Her chest was rising and falling as she fought hard to regain her composure her self-control.
She shot one last venomous glare at Adam who was still sitting calmly. Then she turned to Alina.
"Let’s go," she said her voice clipped and strained tight with anger. "I don’t want to look at his arrogant face anymore."
With that Monica turned on her heel. She began to walk away from the front row.
Alina fell into step beside her. As they left Alina glanced back over her shoulder at Eric. She gave him a single worried look before she too disappeared from view following the angry princess.
Professor Margaret watched them go.
A thoughtful almost amused smile was playing on her lips. She then turned her gaze back to Adam who was still seated in his chair.
His expression was one of complete unbothered nonchalance. He looked like nothing in the world could worry him.
"Let’s see what else you do in these next four years Eric," the professor murmured more to herself than to anyone else.
"It seems," she added her smile widening slightly
"that these next four years at the Academy will be quite... interesting." With that final cryptic comnt Professor Margaret also turned and walked away.
She left Adam and his fledgling new group to their own devices.
The mont the powerful professor was gone the simring tension among the mbers of The New Warriors who were seated in the rows behind Adam finally boiled over.
They had been holding in their questions their fears their excitent.
They imdiately stood up. Their voices beca a cacophony of excited chatter and anxious questions.
All of their questions were directed at their new enigmatic leader the boy who had just challenged the entire Academy.
Kado his frustration finally getting the better of him was the first to speak clearly above the din of all the other voices.
"What is your plan Eric?!" he demanded. His voice was a mixture of exasperation at Eric’s reckless behavior and a grudging newfound respect for his power and courage.
"Do you always have to do things the hard way? She’s a princess the Emperor’s daughter! Couldn’t you have shown her even a little bit of respect? You called her weak to her face!"
Void however who was sitting beside Adam was practically beaming with delight.
He was very happy. He could see with his own heightened demonic senses that Monica while talented for a human was not nearly as strong as her reputation or her own arrogance suggested.
In fact Void could already identify several other students in the auditorium besides himself and Adam who could likely defeat her in a fair fight.
The princess’s power was inflated by her title not by her actual capabilities. She wasn’t the strongest here.
The mbers of The New Warriors were still talking amongst themselves.
They were trying to process the incredible events of their very first day. They were still in shock.
Then two new figures approached Adam’s row. They were the identical twin Elven won from the welcoming ceremony.
They were the ones who had stood on either side of the disguised demon Void.
Adam who had been smiling slightly listening to the anxious chatter of his new followers imdiately saw the two won approach.
The mont his gaze fell upon them his faint smile vanished. It was replaced instantly by a serious unreadable expression. He knew who they were.
The two Elven twins stopped directly in front of Adam’s seat.
They both smiled a strange knowing smile. And then in perfect synchrony at the exact sa mont they each extended a single elegant hand towards him. It was a formal gesture of greeting.
Adam his expression still serious and unreadable reached out his own hand. He shook both of their hands in a single firm gesture. A silent acknowledgent passed between them.
"We wanted to join your new group," one of the twins said her voice a lodic yet strangely flat whisper. It was beautiful but held no emotion.
"But we had already joined the Golden Group with the Prince our master," the other twin finished her voice identical to her sister’s.
Adam simply nodded his head. It was a silent acknowledgnt of their words. He said nothing. He understood their situation.
"My na is Gold," the first twin said. Her own hair was a shimring tallic gold color that seed to catch the light.
"And my na is Silver," the other twin stated. Her hair was a stark luminous white like polished silver a striking contrast to her sister.
These two Gold and Silver were of course the sa Elven assassins who had been given the transformative rings by the Apostles in the dark hall. They had accompanied Void the disguised demon to the Academy.
Their true nature and their dark purpose were hidden beneath their human guises their fake appearances. They were here on a mission.
Void from his seat looked at the two of them with a serious almost warning expression in his eyes. He said nothing to them. He pretended as if he were seeing them for the very first ti here in the auditorium.
Though the three of them had in fact arrived at the Academy together.
Their missions were intertwined they were connected.
The intricate dangerous ga they were all playing at this Academy had just beco even more complex even more dangerous.
There were more players on the board now than Adam had first realized.
