What can be done in two seconds?

For so, quite a bit.

For the vast majority, however, not much at all.

But for Chen Yun, those two seconds could be very, very long. The remaining two seconds of his thermal sight were enough for a test.

At the horizon where the sea ets the sky, the once clear boundary blurred in the rain fog, rging the gray skies with the vast sea into a profound and distant feeling.

Raindrops accompanied by the salty sea breeze danced through the air, echoing the tumultuous waves below.

Chen Yun didn’t use telekinesis to block the rain, nor could he block all of it with telekinesis, so even with an umbrella, he was mostly soaked through in the downpour.

Yet Chen Yun, drenched as he was, had no ti to worry about his wetness, fully focused on the little finger he held out.

A chilling red glow erged in his eyes.

He aid at the tip of his little finger resting on a rock and without hesitation, he released a low-intensity thermal sight, no bigger than a pinhole.

The thermal sight pierced through the rain curtain effortlessly, instantly evaporating the droplets it touched, hissing in accompanint to its debut.

In an instant, the horrific thermal sight hit the tip of Chen Yun’s little finger, starting at a temperature of 500 degrees with no damaging effect, not even a noticeable sensation.

Imdiately after, Chen Yun, confident in his control of thermal sight, swiftly increased its intensity.

Convinced he could stop the thermal sight before it beca unbearable, the beam’s temperature on the flesh of his little finger skyrocketed rapidly, and the rock it stood upon began to show signs of lting, even with the finger in between.

But by the end of almost one second, Chen Yun stopped the test.

As the rainwater’s burning vapor was swiftly obscured by the subsequent rainfall, and the lted part of the rock cooled with the hissing rain,

Chen Yun, with eyes now returned to their ordinary reddish-brown, quietly stared at his little finger, speechless.

The situation now was...

The enemy’s armor hadn’t been penetrated!

There was no need to continue testing really, it was virtually ineffective.

Not to ntion penetration, there wasn’t a single scratch or even pain on his finger.

It rely reddened slightly from the thermal sight.

However, within a few seconds after the test had ended, it had rapidly faded, returning to a completely normal state just like the rest of his fingers.

But he knew this was no longer a normal human hand.

After soaking a long ti in the sea water the previous night, he had discovered that his fingertips no longer wrinkled automatically in water.

And now, even thermal sight seed unable to affect his flesh.

During the two seconds the thermal sight’s temperature increased, he could feel the temperature rising without feeling burned at all.

His skin’s perception and endurance towards temperature hadn’t malfunctioned; rather, its threshold had simply risen to an absurd level.

So much so, that even at 1500 degree temperatures, it had no effect.

His bodily defense had likely stealthily evolved with each Evolution, now reaching a ridiculous degree.

Much like in the past when he could attack himself with claws capable of shredding wood and rock, he couldn’t even mark his skin.

Now, his skin proved impervious even to thermal sight.

His own attack couldn’t breach his defense, seeming to be a fundantal chanism of his evolution.

Chen Yun, touching his completely unhard little finger, couldn’t help but feel mixed emotions about such a chanism.

Defense being forever greater than offense might not be such a bad thing. It suggested the talent points were allocated as much as possible towards defense.

In that case, Chen Yun would never be a fragile character with high offense and low health.

For Chen Yun, this was good news.

His Steel Body might soon shed the moniker ’knock-off’ and quicker possess a strength comparable or even surpassing the authentic Steel Body.

He was looking forward to such a future.

Thinking this over,

Chen Yun crumbled the lted part of the rock and tossed it into the sea, then made his way back to the hotel.

...................

Lying on the hotel bed,

Bai Shi stared blankly at the ceiling, his mind fluttering with complex thoughts.

The stage play he saw at the theater today was different from his past, but there were so coincidental similarities.

And then,

He inevitably thought of his past.

He was an abandoned baby, wrapped in a faux Qi Baishi painting and left at the doorstep of a Chinese-owned orphanage in California, Lighthouse Country.

Afterward, he was nad Bai Shi.

As a child, he wanted to heed the orphanage director’s teachings, excel in his studies, and live a life he could call his splendid own.

But after the director’s life was ended by a burglar during a ho invasion, his dream of becoming a great painter like Qi Baishi was cut short.

In its place...

A rising star in the criminal world was born.

Not only to find that petty thief but also to shoulder the living expenses of the other kids in the orphanage.

At first, he was very young, in his teens he only dared to run errands under the bigger players, engaging in quiet petty thefts.

Later, he learned so skills on his own, targeting cris that didn’t affect ordinary people.

Then, utilizing his innate talent for painting, he got involved in art forgery, eting many ntors along the way.

By twenty-three, he was already a sowhat renowned art forger.

That sa year, the initial petty thief was arrested for other matters, pre-emptively taken by Lighthouse Country police and detained.

Fortunately, over the years he had made a na and contacts; he arranged for a few well-built n in prison to take good care of that petty thief.

Then, the young thief took his own life.

And then, Bai Shi was also lost.

He who had dreamt of becoming a great painter in his youth now seed only capable of copying the works of others.

He chose to walk further down the path of cri, becoming more and more adept, as if he was born for it.

His na grew increasingly notorious in the worldly society.

Until the kids from the orphanage had all grown up and entered society, after which he minimized the orphanage’s existence with a bit of maneuvering and no longer had any attachnts, he wandered the world doing things full of challenges.

His criminal behavior beca more and more outrageous.

From forging artwork to personally stealing the real items, from art cris to the counterfeiting of a series of precious items, including counterfeit money.

He gradually beca wanted by most of the world’s officials.

This also made it hard for him to stop, like a person being chased by tumbling boulders down a mountain.

Until one day, while casing the British Museum, he saw a Qi Baishi painting inconspicuously placed in a corner.

In that mont, he felt a certain stirring within him.

The following days, a foul sll perated his room, and despite cleaning it over and over, the sll persisted.

It wasn’t until he looked at a box in the corner full of childhood toys that he realized, it was them, the moldy dreams and rotten ideals.

Bai Shi rembered, as a child, he too had proudly shown off his imitations of Qi Baishi’s paintings to the headmaster.

He was not a painter now.

Just a shadow of soone else.

In silence, he committed his last job.

After a year of preparation, he finally took that Qi Baishi painting from the corner.

Then.

He, now thirty years old, went to the one country he never dared to commit cris in, the land of his ancestors.

And then in Hua Country, he entered retirent, where he has stayed to this day.

Now he is thirty-seven.

Nearly in his forties.

With an arm shielding his eyes, Bai Shi couldn’t help but get lost in the mories of his past.

"Why have I... also beco so easily sentintal."

Bai Shi chuckled lightly and slowly rose from the bed.

Fumbling through his belongings, he pulled out a bottle of strong Erguotou liquor.

Usually, he would never drink this kind of liquor, but now...

He still wanted to sting himself a bit.

"Go find Chen Yun, and drink till I drop."

Bai Shi murmured.

He picked up the liquor and opened the door to his room, heading straight to Chen Yun’s door and knocking.

Not long after,

Chen Yun’s door opened.

"What’s up?"

Chen Yun appeared before him in only his briefs.

The naked man before him was like an artist’s carefully sculpted masterpiece, with each inch of skin exuding a perfect blend of power and aesthetic.

His statuesque physique was well-built and muscular, reminiscent of the war god Ares from Ancient Greek mythology, exuding masculine vigor.

Bai Shi swore that this was much more striking than any of the nude males he had ever painted.

That broad and solid chest, arranged with neat six-packs, like unyielding rock, proclaid extraordinary strength and endurance. His broad shoulders and full, elastic trapezius muscles highlighted the boundless power concealed within. The biceps and triceps on his arms rose like mountains, with clear definitions revealing imnse explosive strength.

In silence,

Bai Shi swallowed, feeling sowhat daunted at the prospect of entering the room.

It wasn’t that he doubted Chen Yun’s sexual orientation.

But rather...

A gentleman does not stand beneath a collapsing wall.

"Hello, goodbye."

With a slight smile, Bai Shi decisively stepped back and then jogged to his own room.

This caused Chen Yun to pull a wry smile.

Watching Bai Shi depart with a helpless expression.

"Crazy."

Rolling his eyes, Chen Yun closed the door.

He glanced at his clothes that had already been hung up to dry and leaned back on the couch with a refreshing feeling.

He had just returned after testing his thermal sight.

He had also taken the opportunity to take a shower, and now felt quite refreshed.

Seeing that it wasn’t yet ti for dinner,

Chen Yun contentedly opened his backpack next to him, pulling out the Snake Skin and Bone Soup he brought with him.

The milky white soup in the glass bottle looked particularly appetizing.

Although it was cold, Chen Yun directly looked at the glass bottle and saw a red glow in front of him.

The thermal sight with just one second left to its duration hit it with an appropriate intensity.

Then.

Chen Yun unscrewed the lid to obtain a bottle of steaming hot snake soup.
