(Casey’s POV)
________
"I’m bleeding!!!" I echoed Jace’s words as I felt a burning pain through my thigh, when I tried to take another step, I pitched forward, staggering a little. I would have fallen to the ground but Jace caught just in ti.
"How did this happen?" Jace muttered, terrified as he held in his arms.
I closed my eyes, trying to withstand the pain, "it must have been when I tried to get away from Ramon." I could rember when he had raised the dagger trying to stab , but I fell instead which was why he missed . Or I thought that he missed . It turned out that he stabbed in the thigh, but due to adrenaline and the excitent of the mont, I didn’t even notice it.
"Holy shit!" I gasped as I grabbed Jace by the collar. "It hurts!"
"I have to get you to the hospital, right now!" Jace said. He turned to Ethan, "Find out what you can from Ramon, I’ll take her to the hospital."
"Hell no!" Ethan replied, "I’m not leaving you again! And there’s nothing you’re saying that would change my mind. If you’re taking her to the hospital, I’m coming with you."
"We don’t have ti for this!"
"Jace..." I whispered. "He has a point. Besides, I’m going to see this to the end. I’m sure there will be sothing in Ramon’s house that we can use to patch the wound up. I know a little about First Aid, you know?"
"I don’t like this, Casey. You need to be treated, and doctors have to determine that you’re fine."
"Fine, I’ll go myself."
"No, I’m not leaving your side, Casey." Jace was adamant, "I can’t bear to leave your side."
"Jace," I took his face in my hands. "Don’t you see what’s going on here? I have to be here with you. Even if I do go to the hospital, you can’t co with . What will people think when they see you bring to the hospital with a gash on my thigh? The plan was to squash scandals, right? We shouldn’t help fuel it."
"It’s you that doesn’t seem to get the fact that I don’t care about all that right now," Jace replied. "What if Ethan takes you? I trust him, and when you’re safe there he’ll co back and we’ll deal with Ramon together."
"I already told you that I’m not leaving you alone again," Ethan said.
"Yeah," I agreed. "I don’t want to leave you either. I’m seeing this to the end, Jace. Now, let’s figure out how to fix my leg and stop from bleeding like a stuck pig."
I tried to take another step, but I winced with pain. With a grunt of frustration, Jace picked up and carried like a bride while he followed Ethan who was still carrying Ramon. We walked the short distance back to the ruined staircase and box, then we climbed up the stairs. We closed the door behind us, but due to the fact that Ethan’s kick had ruined it, it couldn’t lock the usual way, forcing us to make use of the deadbolt that was behind it.
Jace took straight to the kitchen and sat on the counter. He pushed so dishes out of the way, making more space. We left Ethan and Ramon in the living room, however, I could see them both from my perch on the counter. I watched as Ethan sat the unconscious man on a chair and tied him up with bedsheets from the bedroom.
"Hold on... what exactly is Ethan going to do to Ramon?" I asked suddenly.
Jace was looking through the cabinets and cupboards, opening doors as he looked for a First Aid kit, "he’s going to make Ramon talk, one way or the other."
I noted his tone and I felt uncomfortable, "Jace, I don’t like the sound of that. You’re not gonna torture him, are you? You know that’s illegal, and even if it isn’t, it’s not right!"
Jace stopped and turned to look at , "are you seriously speaking for him? Babe, he almost killed you! He stabbed you in your damn thigh! He had the knife to your throat! Co on!"
"Thanks for the reminder," I replied with a roll of my eyes, "as if I wasn’t right there when it happened. I just don’t like this. Things are already going too far, I don’t want to make them worse just because we’re trying to make our lives better. What if he chooses to press charges?"
"It’ll be my word against his," Jace said flippantly. He then gave a whoop of joy as he finally found a circular plate in the cupboard overhead. However, when he opened it, the smile vanished, "well, I guess we can manage this."
He brought it over to and showed the contents, I saw a pair of scissors, so bandage, a bottle of ntholated spirit, and a roll of plaster. They were just enough to treat the wound. I took the plate from him and dropped it on the counter beside .
I took his hand and squeezed it, "I know you want to make Ramon pay for what he did, but there is a better way to do this. You heard what he said during the fight, he was done being taken advantage of by rich folks, maybe if we show him that we care, he would be more willing to work with us."
"If he’s unwilling, I’m sure Ethan would make him very willing."
"I’m being serious, it’s talk like this that really scares . Look at Jace," I took his face with my free hand and turned it to face , "This is us, I’m fine. I don’t want you to get in trouble because of so weird sense of justice or vengeance. I’m begging you, let’s do this the right way."
He slowly shook his head, "let’s talk about this when we’re done treating your wound." I didn’t want to drop the subject just yet, but i had to. He was right. The wound was more important.
He picked up the scissors and doused it in spirit to disinfect it.
"Wow... you also know your First Aid," I muttered impressed.
"Co on, all those years as a Boys Scout couldn’t go to waste, could it?" Jace began to cut through my yoga pants. He cut around the injury, exposing it. It was an ugly gash that was steadily leaking out blood. Just seeing it again seed to make it all the more painful. I bunched my fists, trying to contain it.
As I studied the wound, I realized that it was no longer bleeding as badly as it had been. It was a good sign. The dagger had not gone deep enough to strike any major artery or vein. I was lucky.
"You should think about your pain first before you consider the welfare of the man who put it on you," Jace said as he picked up the spirit for the second ti, I was about to say sothing but he cut off even before the first word was out. "Brace yourself, this is going to hurt. A lot."
He took out a cotton wool and soaked it in spirit. Then, he began to clean the wound. The second it touched the injury, the burning pain that followed caused to scream my lungs out.
Sadly, this was only just the beginning.
