That night, I made my way to the dungeon where the boys of the lvyn Kingdom were being held.
I went there with a soft blanket and a pot of warm water in my hand. A cool breeze brushed my cheeks. I took a deep breath and walked down the stairs. My footsteps echoed as they hit the ground with a steady thud.
The place was a little chilly and humid. It was dimly lit, and I couldn’t see much.
I couldn’t let a sick person stay in such a place. But that didn’t an I could let them out of their cells without permission.
“What are you doing here?”
A low voice resounded in the quiet space. My eye t with the older brother’s through the railing. His red eyes stared at in the darkness.
“Where’s your brother?”
“Sleeping. Don’t disturb him.”
“Here, put this on him and so hot water.”
I threw a blanket over the railing and offered him a pot of hot water. But he shows no sign of taking it. Rather, he was looking at with suspicion.
Oh, maybe he thought it was poisoned?
I have a cat’s tongue, so I don’t like hot drinks. But I had to endure it to make him trust a little.
I took a sip of the hot water to take away his anxiety.
“Is this okay?”
He gently accepted the pot from my hand. Then put a blanket on his brother, who was sleeping quietly.
He really cared about his little brother. That was why I couldn’t let him lose his brother.
I had to do sothing before he got hurt so deeply that he would never recover.
“Why are you being so good to us?”
He muttered as he looked at his brother.
“Because I’m soone who worked my way out of that arena, too.”
I puffed my chest and grinned.
I must earn their trust at all costs. Although I wasn’t sure if they’d be a useful resource, there should be room for growth…
Besides, I had been put in charge by Deputy Captain Neil, and I wanted to live up to his expectations.
He gave a surprised look when I said that.
“If you’re good enough, you can survive. Isn’t that a good thing in this world?”
“What good is a country with a slave market?”
He turned his sharp eyes on .
Ravaal Kingdom certainly had slave markets, but they were unofficial, and it was considered a cri. That’s where the Black market cos in, you know…
I, for one, would have wanted to crush it and stop it as soon as possible.
“In my country, you know, one couldn’t even crawl up. The top had always been the sa. Even if soone was exceptionally talented, they would die without ever being able to show what they were capable of. They would not even be given a chance.”
I was about to add that it all ca down to whether you could use magic, but I stopped myself. Then I continued my story.
“So, isn’t this country still a much better place compared to that?”
He fell silent at my words.
…Now that I think about it, Duelkis Kingdom was really strange. I didn’t realize it until I left the country.
It was normal in that part of the world, but there was no one in the rest of the world who could use magic. I guess it was like being a frog in a well and not knowing the ocean.
Well, the Duelkis Kingdom had very little diplomacy, so it was no wonder.
“What do you want?”
I responded to his question with a smile, saying, “Trust and confidence”.
