"I’ve co to get you! I’ve co to get you!"

The re five words had an unimaginable impact on Wang Kai’s psyche.

Wang Kai stood with his mouth agape, his eyes brimming with tears, his emotions simring like a volcano on the verge of eruption, as he recalled the various tornts he had endured recently.

He knelt before Lin Fan, head bowed, hands covering his face, wanting to cry but not daring to, his body trembling with suppressed sobs, still fearful that his crying would attract the zombies.

"If you want to cry, just cry, there’s no need to hold it in," Lin Fan said softly, feeling the other’s repression, understanding the helplessness in despair, knowing that crying it out would make things much better.

He too had cried before.

In the pitch-black night, he stood on the balcony looking at the bustling city, turning back to gaze at the tranquil house, knowing the throngs of lights outside did not belong to him.

Alone, he envied the happiness and beauty of others.

During the New Year, fireworks burst forth, families reunited.

He would prepare a lavish New Year’s Eve dinner for himself, stay in the living room, eating while watching the Spring Festival Gala, and occasionally burst into inexplicable laughter.

He would think of that face, which had beco blurred. He knew it was his mother, but his mory was vague, and he could not recall it clearly.

Crying does not signify weakness but rather digests the fragility within one’s heart, allowing one to face the challenges of tomorrow with the greatest courage.

Lin Fan’s words tugged at Wang Kai’s heartstrings.

As his words fell, Wang Kai broke into loud sobs, his grief profound, as if he was fully venting the spiritual tornt he endured during this period.

Lin Fan quietly waited.

Without making a sound.

Without interrupting.

Dogzi circled at Wang Kai’s feet, nuzzling his master’s pants, puzzled by his sudden sadness.

After a long while,

Wang Kai felt much better, wiped away his tears, and looked up at Lin Fan standing before him.

"This isn’t a dream?"

"It’s not a dream, let’s go," Lin Fan replied.

Wang Kai stared blankly at Lin Fan, then looked down at Dogzi circling his feet and stamred, "The..., the zombies?"

"When I ca to get you, I encountered so zombies. I’ve killed them all."

Lin Fan explained patiently.

"Killed... killed them?"

Wang Kai was dumbfounded. To him, zombies were the most terrifying beings, man-eating demons more horrifying and thrilling than any seen in movies.

Lin Fan smiled, "Let’s go."

He did not wish to dwell on the topic. Killing zombies was not sothing to be happy about; it was often a necessity. He wished he could have a friendly conversation with the zombies, but they wouldn’t listen.

It still seed to be a matter of quality, like that ti in the supermarket when he encountered a zombie in a police uniform. He clearly explained the situation: I’m not here for a freebie; I haven’t done anything illegal. Understanding the situation, the zombie left.

Turning around, he headed outside.

Wang Kai zoned out for a mont before hurriedly following.

When he saw a zombie lying on the ground, cleaved in two, he gasped sharply in horror, shock, and unease. He knew this zombie; it was his colleague, with whom he had had a reasonably good relationship. He never imagined such an end.

He didn’t understand why it had turned into a zombie.

Thinking about it, everyone was fine, they hadn’t eaten anything strange, nor had they been in contact with anyone suspicious.

How did it co to this?

It always happened like this in movies. Perhaps a certain country was experinting with sothing like this virus, seemingly accidental but actually intended for spread, yet unforeseen consequences led to an apocalypse.

He couldn’t understand.

Outside,

This was the first ti he looked at the outside world so effortlessly, breathed the outside air, and from a distance, he could see the bodies of zombies strewn about.

He looked at Lin Fan walking ahead in confusion, wondering who he really was, how he could be so formidable, and why he wasn’t afraid of zombies.

As they walked, he again saw the body of a zombie, a bizarre corpse that, although split in two, still reminded him of the monster that the injured beauty turned into in the dostic movie "Prince Peacock."

"Don’t worry, I’ve eliminated all the zombies; you can follow with peace of mind," Lin Fan said, turning around with a smile. He was very familiar with the apocalypse and zombies, but the survivors didn’t know and fear was normal; no one was unafraid.

Reaching the e-bike, he straddled it and patted the back seat, "You and the dog, get on."

Wang Kai, holding the dog, sat behind Lin Fan, with the dog squeezed in the middle, its front paws resting on Lin Fan’s shoulders.

The scene was vividly set.

"Wear the helt, safety is most important."

Lin Fan handed the helt to Wang Kai; unfortunately, there was only one helt. Safety during travel mattered because in the event of an accident, those wearing helts were unhard, as seen in the news where many accidents resulted in fatal head injuries; wearing one made all the difference.

He knew not wearing a helt was very dangerous, but he was willing to take the risk himself and leave the safety to this survivor.

The only trouble was getting caught by the traffic police, who would definitely fine him since every person on the vehicle must have a helt.

"Ah?"

With his mouth agape, seeing Lin Fan looking serious, Wang Kai obediently put on the helt.

He was a bit dazed. The mysterious brother who ca to rescue him was puzzling, not that there was sothing wrong with him, but in the details, it was sowhat unimaginable.

"Sit tight, we’re off, my bike’s fast," Lin Fan cautioned, twisting the throttle to the limit, accelerating as the wind blew, swiftly leaving the water plant.

The two n and the dog traveled on the desolate road.

This was the first ti since the apocalypse had erupted that Wang Kai saw the outside world, overturned vehicles, corpses everywhere, each scene striking his core.

"What exactly has happened..." Wang Kai muttered to himself.

Lin Fan explained, "The apocalypse has arrived, everyone has turned into zombies, biting and destroying everywhere, not just here but in the streets, the cities, but we need to be hopeful and believe that one day we can restore Huang Market to its forr glory."

Comforting Wang Kai’s soul, the sight would break anyone.

Dazed, Wang Kai looked on. His mind was still blank, struggling to accept the situation. He was just working a night shift at the factory when suddenly everything changed, his normal colleagues turning into those aggressive, biting creatures.

Even without any reason.

Lin Fan did not ask if he wanted to rent a room in Sunshine District, knowing his mood was very suppressed and not so great, and needed a bit of ti to adjust.

"Did you know I was here and specifically ca to rescue ?" Wang Kai asked.

"No, I don’t know you, nor did I know there were survivors here. Old Master Wang told there might be survivors because the water is clean, so I ca to check and unexpectedly found you," Lin Fan replied, just telling the truth.

Wang Kai fell silent, seeing living people and breathing fresh air, which soothed his restless emotions, beginning to accept the current turn of events.

"Everything can’t go back, can it?"

He murmured.

With very sharp ears, Lin Fan imdiately responded with a definite and confident tone.

"No, we can go back, with our efforts we will surely get there. You must believe in yourself, believe in everyone who holds hope for the future."

No sooner had he spoken.

He braked abruptly.

Due to inertia, Wang Kai, sitting in the back, was thrust forward against Lin Fan, with the dog squeezed in the middle, sticking its tongue out.

"What... what happened?" Wang Kai asked urgently.

Lin Fan pointed ahead and said, "There are quite a few zombies blocking the road, though there weren’t any when we ca, strange."

Wang Kai looked in the direction Lin Fan was pointing.

He was instantly stunned.

Terrified to the core.

There... that was an endless horde of zombies.
