"Are you really going to leave?"
In a county town not far from Xiangshan, there was a shelter housing a group of people. At this mont, two young n were digging the soil with shovels, conversing as they worked.
The two survivors, one skinny and one chubby, had known each other since kindergarten, and were friends for over twenty years.
The chubby one was Li Ang.
The skinny one was Xu Ming.
Xu Ming, fiddling with the soil, said with conviction, "Yeah, I have to go. Just look at the situation here; there’s no hope. Those in control of the shelter’s lifeline, they won’t see us as human beings. In their eyes, we’re just slaves."
"Any behavior that’s not to their liking is t with beating or killing. If it were in the past, without a choice, I wouldn’t have such thoughts. But now that I have a choice, I want to give it a try."
As he spoke, Xu Ming’s eyes were filled with hope.
Li Ang said, "Are you talking about the ’Zombie Album’? Do you really believe everything written in the ’Zombie Album’ is true?"
For Xu Ming, the ’Zombie Album’ was sothing he had co across so ti ago.
When he saw what was recorded inside,
he was genuinely shocked beyond words; the impact of all the information was unimaginable.
Whether it was the types of zombies, which we can set aside for now, he had not seen that many zombies, only a few Evolutionary Zombies.
The information about the ’Sunshine Shelter in Huang Market’ was etched deeply into his mory.
Whenever he had the ti, he would take it out and review it.
He had doubted and pondered whether the contents were true or not, but in the end, he chose to believe.
Not that he knew any insider secrets, but rather a voice deep inside seed to be constantly telling him to choose to believe. Also, his current situation was not what he wanted.
"Chubbs, it’s not that I believe so much as I have a feeling inside that tells to believe," Xu Ming said softly. "You don’t have to co with . There’s so distance from here to Huang Market, and we’ll surely face dangers along the way. With your size, you might not even be able to run if you have to. If I really make it there, I’ll co back for you, I promise."
Xu Ming knew Li Ang’s situation well.
It was no problem for him to eat, but escaping was a real struggle.
"But I worry about you," Li Ang expressed his concern for Xu Ming’s safety. "Besides, how are you going to get out? To leave here, you must have permission."
Xu Ming looked around intently, "Don’t worry, I have been preparing for so ti now, and if nothing goes wrong, I should be able to leave today."
At that mont,
The working survivors glanced at the distance.
Soone was dragging a body to a pit far away to bury it.
In these apocalyptic tis, everyone had grown accustod to the cheapness of human life; the person who was lively and kicking yesterday might beco a corpse the next day.
Other survivors gathered around to discuss.
"I rember that guy, he was quite dissatisfied with the system here, didn’t expect him to be killed."
"He must’ve been reported."
"This reporting system is really disgusting. As long as the report is true, you can randomly select a few items from the supplies as a reward."
Everyone fell silent.
Xu Ming was also silent, the shelter’s system was frightening; no one dared guarantee that an offhand complaint wouldn’t lead to a report.
"Xu, co here."
Not far away, a survivor waved to him.
"Coming."
Xu Ming responded and then nodded to Li Ang before putting down his shovel and running off.
He quickly reached the gathering place.
The candidates for the outing were all here: eight survivors, two vehicles, including two who were henchn of the shelter’s boss, acting as monitors for the others.
The working Li Ang watched the vehicles drive toward the unknown, perilous wilderness, his heart full of worry.
Hopefully, the journey goes smoothly.
...
Xu Ming was driving the vehicle while the monitor, Lu Hao, sat in the passenger seat, with another two survivors sitting behind them.
Lu Hao had been a fitness instructor before the apocalypse, with a bulky fra that gave him an imposing presence, making him an asset in the new world.
Lu Hao often bragged to them
about his days as a fitness instructor, how he had his way with countless married won, and even recorded many videos.
For Xu Ming,
this man was truly disgusting.
The vehicle rolled slowly, with the other headed in a different direction.
They, who dared not enter the cities,
could only collect so supplies from small shops or service stations located conveniently along the highway.
Lu Hao smoked arrogantly,
"When you guys look for supplies later, be quick about it. If anything goes wrong, I won’t wait for you."
He was quite content with his current life.
Though he followed others,
he could still look down on ordinary survivors.
And that felt really good.
"We know," Xu Ming replied calmly.
The two survivors in the back exchanged glances.
Xu Ming had already arranged everything with them.
When Xu Ming approached them, they appeared puzzled, evidently not expecting him to have such an idea. Especially when he showed them the ’Zombie Album,’ they too were shocked.
As for why they readily agreed in the end,
Xu Ming had a firm hold on them because, when these two survivors arrived at the shelter, their girlfriends dumped them, choosing to throw themselves at soone else’s rcy.
When they encountered their ex-girlfriends, they were mocked and insulted, for example...
