In the dark desert.
The dog, Little He, wandered away from the windbreak in the middle of the night to relieve itself, to prevent its owner, Sun Neng, from slling the scent of its urine.
The scalding urine washed over the yellow sand of the ground, exposing half a human face. Startled, Little He barked and wagged its tail, licking the person’s face in hopes of awakening them.
The effect was minimal, not much use at all.
Little He, being quite clever, hurriedly ran to its owner’s side, wagging its tail and barking, then dashed off into the distance and stopped, looking back at Sun Neng.
Sun Neng watched the dog, sensing that Little He’s reaction was sowhat unusual. He got up and walked toward Little He. Seeing its owner following, Little He wagged its tail even more enthusiastically, overjoyed beyond asure.
Little He ran to the sand where the half face was exposed and stood there wagging its tail.
Darkness was useless to Sun Neng; his vision could pierce through it, as clear as daylight.
At first glance, he saw the half face exposed outside the sand.
This made Sun Neng’s expression change abruptly. He stepped forward and waved his hand, scattering the covering sand, revealing the buried body.
"Hmm? Foreigner?"
Sun Neng was surprised, not expecting it to be a foreigner. This was the first ti he encountered one in the post-apocalyptic world. Nevertheless, he didn’t think too much about it, as the person still had a breath and wasn’t dead yet.
Beside the campfire.
Sun Neng moved the person to the side, frowning slightly. Why was there a sll of urine lingering, then he looked at the dog, Little He, hopefully it hadn’t peed on the person’s face when it went out.
The more he thought about it, the more likely it seed.
"Is she dead?" Han Xiaoxiao asked curiously.
"No." Sun Neng pinched open the person’s mouth, finding yellow sand inside. He cleared most of the sand out. The person was an Awakener, fortunately, because if it was an ordinary person, under these circumstances, they would’ve been long dead, unable to survive until now.
"Oh."
Han Xiaoxiao breathed a sigh of relief. She had seen too much death; it wasn’t that she was numb, but she had truly beco accustod to it.
Sun Neng found no injuries on the person. That an Awakener was buried in the yellow sand was unexpected, but considering the special environnt here, it was likely they encountered a sand vortex.
He placed his palm on the person’s forehead.
Possessing multiple Awakening abilities, Sun Neng could restore the person’s body.
In a mont.
"Cough cough cough..."
Lian Na suddenly gasped for air, lying on the ground coughing as she expelled the sand from her nasal cavity. The ability to breathe felt wonderful, making her feel how great it was to be alive.
But suddenly, Lian Na’s expression changed drastically, stopping her coughing. Her body went rigid, and she slowly turned her head, seeing by the campfire’s light that there were two figures standing next to her, and a dog was circling in place, wagging its tail.
Ever since the incident with Jin Poshan, Lian Na was constantly on guard.
Lian Na rolled to the side, quickly distancing herself from Sun Neng, adopting a battle-ready stance. Her eyes, reflecting the campfire, shone with cautious brilliance.
Sun Neng said, "Can you understand Chinese?"
He was still unsure if this foreigner could understand him. Just now, he saved her, and now she was acting so nervous; it seed a bit inappropriate, yet understandable. Anyone in such a situation would act the sa.
After all, this world was dangerous.
"I can." Lian Na simply replied with one word, but continued to vigilantly watch Sun Neng.
Sun Neng said, "Don’t be nervous, we an no harm. I saved your life. If you trust , why don’t you sit over here, and we can have a chat. Tell about what happened to you."
He and Xiaoxiao sat comfortably around the campfire. The warm fire at night was pleasant, ensuring body heat was maintained. It was up to her if she wanted to trust them or not.
Lian Na kept her wary gaze, considering his words. Upon careful thought, she felt there was so truth to his reasoning; if soone wanted to harm her, there was no need to do so when she was awake.
With this realization, Lian Na relaxed her combat stance and walked over to sit by the campfire.
"Have sothing to eat." Sun Neng handed her a cup of instant noodles he had just prepared.
"Thank you."
Lian Na paused for a second before taking the noodles, inhaling the aroma as she devoured them ravenously.
Sun Neng watched quietly, not interrupting. He had many questions, like why she was in this sparsely populated area. Though the sand vortex was indeed terrifying, it was unusual to be trapped if one was prepared.
Lian Na tilted her head back, drinking the broth from the noodles. In such a dreadful world, who cared about appearances while eating? Filling one’s stomach was the most important thing.
"Thank you."
With her belly full, Lian Na regained so energy, appearing much better and lowering her guard towards the unfamiliar man.
"No need to worry, could you tell about yourself?" Sun Neng inquired softly.
Lian Na looked sowhat sorrowful and distressed, beginning slowly, "I, Lian Na, with my companions, crossed the Altai Mountains and arrived here..."
Sun Neng listened, nodding from ti to ti. He didn’t expect her to co from Russia. Learning about her companions but seeing only her explained that sothing terrible had happened, leaving her alone. As he listened, sothing seed amiss.
"You said his na was Jin Poshan?"
After she finished speaking, Sun Neng hastily asked.
"Yes, do you know him?"
