The concept of a Mobile Base is actually a common setting, with large movable vehicles or buildings appearing in many gas, movies, or novels.
Whether in science fiction or fantasy, it is a very common setting, with many derived settings or related works.
Take the land cruisers made by the Suyia people as an example. They can also be considered a type of Mobile Base, but the Suyia people clearly developed this as a combat vehicle and not as a Mobile Base.
As for the differences, the land cruiser developed as a combat vehicle exists entirely for combat purposes. Limited by the level of technology at the ti and the Suyia people’s design style of being large, dumb, and crude, the internal space is narrow and is basically all combat compartnts.
Plus, there needs to be space to accommodate the ammunition compartnts and the transmission chanism of the entire twin-mounted 305mm gun turret. While driving the land cruiser, soldiers can exert trendous combat power, but comfort is out of the question.
Chen Xin watched inside the prototype. Although this land cruiser did have crew compartnts, its space consisted of nothing more than a narrow single bed for soldiers to lie down and take a nap.
Moreover, all these beds are designed to be stacked two or three at a ti, with space even smaller than the bunks in a sleeper car. Almost all bunks are near combat positions, seemingly to allow soldiers to engage in battle instantly.
As for other functional compartnts, they are all service-oriented towards combat, with the interior of the entire land cruiser needing to be lined with sound insulation and shock absorption materials to prevent the internal crew from being killed by shock when firing. This makes the internal space of the land cruiser even narrower.
But a Mobile Base is different; it has complete functionalities and can exist as a "base," providing logistical and material support in all aspects.
And as a base, although residential comfort isn’t necessarily emphasized, there still needs to be adequate living space, with facilities such as a kitchen and dining room included.
After all, it’s a base, and even though a Mobile Base may not be on the sa large scale as a formal fixed base, it should still accommodate various situations.
According to Chen Xin’s design, the size of the Mobile Base should be larger than that of the land cruiser, but there is no need to cram it so full internally. Traditional structures forcibly inserted by the Suyia people to install twin-mounted 305mm turrets and buffer structures supporting gunfire can be completely removed.
As for sound insulation and shock absorption materials, these can be replaced with more modern materials, and the design structure can be optimized.
The Mobile Base, after all, needs to move on roads. With sothing so big, vibration and sound insulation must be implented; otherwise, running might even overturn tables, which is unacceptable.
"So the cannon must be dismantled, and there’s no need to use the original design for the nuclear reactor..." Chen Xin projected the three-dinsional image of the land cruiser using nanomolecules and was making adjustnts bit by bit.
The originally prominent and quite intimidating gun barrels, along with the entire turret, were dismantled. This operation not only freed up a lot of load but also opened up a vast amount of space on the entire chassis.
While artillery should be installed as a self-defense weapon or roadblock clearer, a 305mm caliber is too large, inconvenient to use, and entirely unnecessary.
Just like modern warships that only install cannons below 150mm caliber, and only one for formality, with primary attack thods already replaced with more practical missiles, even if Chen Xin were to mount weaponry on the Mobile Base, it would be a maximum of one 130mm naval gun, and no more of such large-caliber things.
The entire internal space of the land cruiser also needs a complete redesign.
Although the original designers from Suyia were incredibly talented, able to design such a massive steel behemoth, Suyia has disbanded for more than thirty years. Many designs, while intricate even today, are similarly outdated and need adjustnts in many areas.
And now, since this thing is not for combat, many internal parts can be removed, and new functions must be added.
According to Chen Xin’s ideas, having facilities like a dining room and bathroom are a must, and the cabins need to be changed into independent compartnts rather than just having a few single beds as before.
In addition to these, Chen Xin also plans to add a hangar and a helipad to the Mobile Base.
This idea cos from results derived from mobile bases in warships and many science fiction works. With helicopters, the Mobile Base can quickly deploy action teams without mobilizing the entire base for every situation.
And since there are helicopters, off-road vehicles or similar transportation tools are also necessary, so a garage needs to be added.
As Chen Xin conceives, the three-dinsional image projected before him gradually changes.
The gun barrels and turrets disappear, the vehicle body gets elongated, and a pair of tracked chassis are added to the bottom, increasing from the original four tank chassises to six, equipped with twelve tracks in total.
anwhile, Chen Xin replaced the entire power system. The original nuclear reactor not only took up space but also had a very outdated design. Now Chen Xin directly replaced it with his own designed fusion reactor.
With a smaller size and more potent output, it is enough to provide powerful propulsion and ample electricity for this Mobile Base.
Additionally, at the chassis’ rear, Chen Xin added a garage, filling in the middle section of the original U-shaped support structure.
Although this may reduce the vehicle’s maneuverability over uneven terrain, considering that the side tracked chassis aren’t particularly high anyway, adding a garage is still feasible.
On the roof, where the turret had been removed, Chen Xin similarly added a hangar and made an extendable helipad on the side for helicopter takeoffs and landings.
In terms of size, it can accommodate four helicopters taking off and landing simultaneously, which is more than adequate.
The internal cabins, of course, were all re-planned to make them more rational and comfortable.
Even though it’s a Mobile Base, the internal space cannot be particularly spacious or comfortable, yet a reasonable layout with complete and modern anities should make sure that occupants don’t feel confined or stifled.
Added with kitchens, dining rooms, bathrooms, toilets, and other functional facilities, as well as auxiliary facilities like water storage tanks, the entire Mobile Base is now fully adjusted.
