Chapter 864: 449 Today I will chop off many heads (4100)

North Cloud City, on the west side, near the mountain range, is a district of manor-rich people. It’s a private estate, off-limits to ordinary folk. Vineyards, horse farms, Garden Parks, bathhouses, and even stadiums are found there.

In the midst of these, a resplendent Cathedral stands next to Garden Square. So God-fearing businessn often co here to pray, sotis in the morning and sotis at dusk.

Like right now, Rachel is walking towards the Cathedral with her father, Fenn, along the spacious road. The surrounding enclosure walls are clean and tidy, and every so often, there are black tal streetlights with branched candle holders at the top. There are people specially assigned to refill these candle holders with oil, ensuring that people can see the path clearly even at night.

On the road, ten-year-old Rachel, dressed in child’s attire reminiscent of a princess dress, has a cute and lively face. Her father, Fenn, is wearing casual trousers, a brown waistcoat, his hair neatly combed, looking every bit the successful young businessman. Hand in hand, they walk forward.

Soon, they arrived at the circular Garden Square. An arrangent of neatly placed flower beds separated spaces, bringing a quiet and leisurely feeling of a serene path. Red, white, blue, and other varieties of plants bloom profusely, exuding an alluring, faint fragrance. The flowers in these beds are exceedingly lush, suggesting that the Church’s caretakers had spared no effort and fertilizer to keep them well-tended. During the flowering season, the Garden Square is especially beautiful.

“That familiar and nice scent…” Fenn took a deep breath, reflectively saying, “I really don’t know how the Pastor does it. It’s the sa species of flower, yet the ones in our backyard don’t sll nearly as good…”

Next to him, Rachel covered her nose and didn’t speak. She knew her father loved the scent of the flowers in the Garden Square, but for so reason, Rachel only sensed a stench in the air—a sll of decay.

Thus, whenever they passed by the Garden Square during the blooming season, Rachel would always urge her father to walk faster and more briskly.

This ti was no exception, as she urged her father to hurry to the Cathedral.

However, halfway there, her father ran into an acquaintance.

A young man with glasses, handso look, and a refined deanor.

The Youth’s na was Loran, having once conducted business with Fenn, so they were relatively familiar. As for Rachel, she was supposed to call the Youth Uncle Loran, although she never did. In truth, she always detested this so-called Uncle Loran. There was an aura about Loran that made Rachel very uncomfortable, and instinctively, she resisted any substantial contact with him.

At dusk, the light dimd, and the protective trees next to Garden Square cast shadows. The passageway was dim, lit only by dappled yellow-red beams of light casting fragnted traces. Fenn was conversing with Loran, apparently discussing business matters. Rachel hid behind Fenn, looking shy and occasionally glancing at the young man whose body was half-covered by shadows through the corners of her eyes.

Was it an illusion? As the sunset hastened, the warm light receded, and the stench in the air grew stronger. Rachel saw the lush blooms in the distance blurring into a cluster, trembling as if dancing in the shadow, perhaps due to the blowing wind.

Feeling sowhat afraid, she averted her gaze, only to find that soone seed to be staring at her from the darkness. That gaze was evil and frigid, like a poisonous snake that had slithered out of Hell, filled with greed and bloodlust. Rachel hastily looked over, but saw that Loran’s head was not turned towards her, and he was pointing towards the Cathedral, talking about sothing with Fenn.

Feeling puzzled, Rachel lowered her head but then felt that malevolent gaze once again. She looked up and was suddenly eye to eye with a pair of scarlet eyes! The back of Loran’s head! In the gaps of his thick hair, two monstrous red eyes were embedded.

At that mont, those eyes were staring intently at her, filled with extre malice and greed. They were the eyes of a predator staring at its prey!

“Dad, Daddy…”

Suddenly terrified, Rachel clutched the hem of her father’s clothes and called out in fear.

“Rachel, stop fussing; I’m discussing business with your Uncle Loran,” Fenn pat his daughter’s hand, trying to soothe her. However, what he didn’t see from his blind spot was that half of Loran’s face on the back of his head was swelling and bulging, revealing a grim, evil, and maniacal visage.

In the midst of the Dark Shadow, a tumor-like head erged from Loran’s normal one, becoming ever more grotesque!

That grotesque head stared at Rachel, revealing a Grim Smile.

“Ah!”

Rachel instinctively scread.

“Shriek!”

Suddenly, a whistle-like screech erged from a corner of Garden Square. It was urgent and shrill, like the trumpeting call for an assault.

“Thud, thud, thud! Thud, thud, thud!”

A rapid sound of running footsteps ca from behind, and three robust silhouettes lightly leaped over the flower bed, falling down like bulky bears. The thud of their landing sent a tremor through the ground. Each of these n was a thug in his own right, no one shorter than 1.9 ters, with exaggeratedly broad shoulders and bulging, hard Muscles. Their necks adorned with a series of Python-like twists of sinister black Tattoos. Their faces were riddled with brutal at, eyes gleaming fiercely, and bloodshot around the sockets. They looked just like robbers and murderers!
