Chapter 136: 115 Third Retrospection (4400)_3
While Nington City is not the central city of East Sea County, its economic developnt is impressive enough to rank third or fourth, marking it as exceptionally prosperous.
Skyscrapers with tea-colored glass exteriors, towering billboards featuring a variety of products or celebrities, and lofty smokestacks penetrating the sky, are the most distinctive features of Nington. Not to ntion the nurous theaters, churches, stock exchanges, and exquisite mansions that grace the city.
It is indeed a paradise where the rich enjoy their power.
On Lishi Street, in the Jasmine Mansion, a grand dance party is being held. The owner of the Kefulen Company, Charles Rush, has invited so prominent socialites. Inside the mansion, n and won, dressed in elegant evening wear, sway in ti with the music.
The brilliant glow from the chandeliers casts their shadows on the glossy floor, where the flicker of dancing limbs can be repeatedly seen. The shadows of the gentlen and socialites are entangled as if glued together.
Resting on the pale yellow sofa at the edge of the room, a pretty girl in a red evening gown seems rather uneasy as she glances towards the dance floor. She arrived here alone with no dance partner, hence she feels a bit left out. The girl turns her head to look towards the edge of the dance floor.
A young, handso man silently stares ahead, holding a glass of red wine. He is dressed in a casual suit, perfectly hugging his strong, slender physique. His handso face is pale against his slicked-back hair, exposing his broad forehead.
The man emits an elegant and composed aura, along with a faint hint of authority. He is none other than Charles, the owner of the Kefulen Company and a billionaire at the tender age of twenty.
Today also happens to be the man’s birthday banquet. He doesn’t appear to have any family or relatives, hence he invited a plethora of celebrities from Nington City to make the occasion more lively. Among the invitees are nurous unmarried beautiful won, as everyone wants to catch the fancy of the rich bachelor.
However, this wealthy man has sowhat recluse temperant; getting close to him might be a bit of a challenge… the girl thinks to herself.
Suddenly, from afar, Charles walks up to her and extends his hand, “Miss Emily, you seem to be without a dance partner tonight. May I have this dance with you?”
“Oh… Yes, of course.”
Surprised and delighted, Emily rises to her feet, extending her hand in response.
Instantly, another dazzling couple joins the whirling dance floor, destined to be the focus of the evening.
Half an hour later, the banquet cos to an end, and the guests start dispersing.
The grand hall of the mansion is now inhabited only by Emily and Charles, their emotions for each other heating up slowly. They stand by the window, silently listening to the rain outside while savoring their respective glasses of red wine.
Crash!
A bright bolt of lightning cuts across the dark sky.
With the majority of lights in the grand hall extinguished, the place is suddenly relit, casting Charles’s shadow on the floor. Seen from particular angles, his figure surprisingly resembles a bloodsucking black bat!
Boom!
A roar of thunder, akin to cannon fire, reverberates above in the clouds.
Through the blurry rain-soaked sky, a man carrying a bag and holding a black umbrella trudges towards the mansion. Dressed in a black suit, wearing a wide-brim hat that covers most of his face, he appears incredibly mysterious. His leather shoes slosh through the pouring rain as he makes his way to the periter wall of the mansion. The man glances around before removing sothing from his bag – a copper and silver chanical crossbow.
Extraordinarily robust in design, the tal surface is inscribed with rampant curling patterns and hanging from the bottom is a rotating tube, like a cannon barrel.
Within the tube glimrs silver crossbow bolts.
A small row of cursive letters is engraved in the corner of the chanical crossbow.
“Furious Steam.”
The man glances down at the engraving, just about to lift his head when suddenly his body jolts, freezing amidst the heavy rainfall.
Whoosh! With the enormous downpour blurring visibility, the surroundings beco hazy. Large drops of rain pattering on the umbrella emit a series of popping sounds, causing the umbrella to quiver slightly. Suddenly, the umbrella tilts backward, revealing a pair of indifferent and uninterested eyes.
“Eerie Night Guest, Blood Clan, Hunt, Black Rain Villa…”
He mutters to himself, lightly weighing the crossbow in his hand.
“And…, Furious Steam…”
