Chapter 97: The Turning Tides

---

As the evening set in, Adam teleported back into his room.

The faint shimr of energy dissipated as his figure materialized.

In his arms sat Tayo, her tiny form nestling against his chest.

Her delicate fra contrasted with Adam’s dark outfit—an entirely black ensemble, paired with his signature mask, which gave him an imposing and enigmatic presence.

Adam placed Tayo gently onto the bed, brushing a few strands of hair away from her sleeping face.

With a sigh, he removed his mask and black attire, carefully storing them in the wardrobe. The room, bathed in the soft glow of the setting sun, felt montarily peaceful.

Descending the staircase, Adam was greeted by the aroma of spices wafting from the kitchen.

His mother, standing near the counter, turned sharply at the sound of his footsteps.

"Where were you?" she asked, her tone laced with a mix of irritation and concern. "I’ve been calling for you since your friends left, but you weren’t in your room."

Adam chuckled, scratching the back of his neck. "I just stepped out for a bit, Mom."

Rachel, appeared from the living room, a puzzled look on her face. "That’s weird. I didn’t see you leave the house."

Adam smirked but said nothing. His mother, dismissing her curiosity, waved him toward the kitchen.

"Enough of that. Dinner’s almost ready, and I need your help setting up."

"Alright," Adam replied with a shrug, joining her. The warmth of ho, despite his secrets and the weight he carried, was a welco reprieve.

---

Far from Adam’s ho, in a darkened chamber lit only by a single flickering candelabra, the Vampire Lord Hanabi sat on an ornate throne.

His silver hair frad a face both regal and nacing.

Before him stood Sophia, her piercing red eyes glinting in the dim light.

Her jet-black hair cascaded over her shoulders, and her expression was one of grave concern.

"Lord Hanabi," she began, her voice steady but tinged with urgency, "our low- and mid-level vampires are decreasing at an alarming rate. Many of them are reverting to humans."

Hanabi’s sharp gaze narrowed. He leaned forward, resting his head in his hand. "Have you pinpointed the location of the spirit causing this?"

Sophia hesitated, frustration evident in her furrowed brow.

"Not precisely. Every ti we identify an area where she’s active, she vanishes before we arrive. It’s as if she possesses teleportation abilities."

Hanabi closed his eyes, his mind racing. "This is catastrophic. Losing so many of our forces will leave us vulnerable. I fear... powerful individuals are lurking in the shadows, waiting for the right mont to strike."

Sophia’s voice softened, concern etched into her features. "Are you referring to the The-Commissioner? Or The Union?"

"Not just them," Hanabi replied, his voice dropping to a murmur. "There are others... perhaps we revealed ourselves too soon."

Sophia stepped closer, her tone insistent. "But you are the most powerful being in existence, my Lord. No matter who opposes us, I have no doubt you will prevail."

A smirk played across Hanabi’s lips as he stood. "If we’ve started this war, we’ll finish it. From now on, I will personally convert new vampires—high-level ones."

Sophia’s eyes widened in shock. "My Lord, surely—"

Hanabi raised a hand, silencing her. "Summon the generals. We need to bolster our numbers imdiately. I can sense a storm brewing, one that we must be prepared for."

---

In a quiet, desolate city, a family huddled inside their modest ho.

The father, a man in his late 40s, paced nervously near the boarded-up windows.

His two sons, one 18 and the other 20, sat at the dining table, their faces tense. The mother stood near the doorway, her hands clasped tightly.

"We can’t keep hiding like this," the younger son said, his voice trembling with frustration. "We need to go out and find food. We’re running out!"

His father shook his head vehently. "No. I won’t risk your lives. Vampires are everywhere. It’s too dangerous."

The argunt escalated, voices rising in the confined space. Suddenly, a faint creak echoed through the house. Everyone froze. Their eyes darted toward the corridor leading to the front door.

The sound of a lock turning sent chills down their spines. The father whispered, "I locked that door myself..."

A shadow appeared in the dim light of the corridor. As it stepped closer, the wooden floor creaked ominously.

Erging into the faint glow of the dining room was a young man, his hair a striking silver and his eyes glowing a nacing red.

"A vampire..." the father whispered, stepping in front of his family. His voice, though shaking, was firm. "Run. I’ll hold him off."

"No, Dad!" the older son protested, but their mother grabbed their hands, pulling them toward the back door. "Do as your father says!"

As the family attempted to flee, Hanabi’s cold voice echoed through the room. "Why the rush?"

Before they could react, he vanished, reappearing in front of the mother and her sons as they reached the wooden window leading to the garden. His red eyes glead as he extended a hand.

With a flick of his finger, a droplet of blood shot through the air, faster than their eyes could follow.

It struck their mouths, forcing its way in. They gagged, clutching their throats, but the transformation was swift and rciless.

The father, still in the dining room, watched in horror as his family fell to the ground, writhing in agony.

Hanabi cos behind his father and makes him drink his blood as well, which causes him a lot of pain and he falls down on the floor due to the pain.

Their eyes turned blood-red, their veins pulsing visibly beneath their skin.

Muscles expanded, bones realigned, and their screams beca guttural roars.

When it was over, they stood—transford. The father, now appearing decades younger, flexed his hands, his newfound strength palpable.

His wife and sons, too, were now powerful, their once-human features replaced with a vampiric elegance.

Kneeling before Hanabi, the father spoke. "Vampire Lord, we are at your service. Command us."

Hanabi’s smile was chilling. "Convert as many humans as you can. The ti for subtlety is over."

With that, he turned and left, his silhouette disappearing into the night.

Behind him, the newly turned vampires set out, their feral instincts driving them to hunt.

By dawn, the Vampire Lord’s forces had grown exponentially, his dominion over the night stronger than ever.
