Niu Xiaosan chuckled, then began traipsing around on the zombie dragon’s head without noticing Tang Ye’s frosty gaze on him, the occasional hint of calculation flashing in it.
Joke was on him - Tang Ye wasn’t the type to let a human who knew his true identity live. The only reason he was keeping Niu Xiaosan around was so the man could lead him to the Chen brothers once everything was settled.
There are so many biker gangs and settlents around, Tang Ye wouldn’t have ti to search for them all after Nannan is settled. If another sentient zombie appeared, it would either die or be assimilated by him.
Also, there’s a high chance this bastard instigated the zombie outbreak!
The zombie dragon flew over the valley and stopped in a wide-open area. With Tang Ye now alone, continuing to use the zombie dragon as transport ran the risk of being spotted by people who knew Li Henian.
So, Tang Ye had to drive to find Qiongli and the others.
However, for so reason, every ti he heard the na Li Henian, it felt like his own na. His previous na felt more and more distant, probably due to his pseudonym. Being constantly addressed as Li Henian had made him unconsciously consider it his own.
"Get off."
Tang Ye pushed Niu Xiaosan off, then he followed suit, pulling a camouflaged off-road vehicle out of a mound of dirt. Once inside the cabin, he tried the ignition. Finding it working, he turned to Niu and asked, "Can you drive?"
"Yes!"
"Get in."
"Oh, okay." Right away, Niu Xiaosan complied and climbed into the vehicle.
With a powerful roar, the car’s engine ca alive, and they headed towards the back gate of the settlent.
"Go this way."
Once out of the settlent, Tang Ye directed Niu Xiaosan as if he knew exactly where Qiongli was, making their way on a hilly, uneven mountain road. However, when they reached a dirt path, Tang Ye called for a stop and got out of the car, his brows furrowed.
"Huh? What’s going on?"
He took a few quick sniffs. Niu Xiaosan at his side asked, "What’s wrong?"
"Shut up, will you?"
Tang Ye raised a hand, terrifying him into silence. He continued sniffing, but he couldn’t pick up on Qiongli’s or Nannan’s scent. Even the scent of the other survivors and soldiers who had made it out with them seed to have vanished.
He scanned the surroundings, noting the white mist slowly rising into the air from all around. The moist sll of soil filled the air, along with a peculiar sour sll.
The sour scent was uncomfortably stifling.
"F*ck!"
Tang Ye realized instantly what had happened - it was likely that Xu Chengsheng and his people had used sothing on their escape route to mask their scent. In the apocalypse, thods to evade zombies had beco common knowledge.
But in doing so, they’d left Tang Ye incapable of discerning Qiongli’s direction.
"Get in the car, we’re turning right."
"Are we going to look for them?"
"Stop wasting ti!"
Tang Ye was in no mood for chatter, adopting a hopeful mindset to try and locate Qiongli and Nannan.
Yet before long, on the winding mountain road with multiple forks, Tang Ye completely lost Qiongli’s trail. He could no longer catch their scent, or even the sour sll.
At this stage, Tang Ye knew they had truly lost contact with Qiongli’s group!
"F*cking idiots, mindless bunch!"
Tang Ye flew into a rage, cursing internally at the soldiers for deploying sothing that had blocked the zombies’ sense of sll. Were they showing such blatant distrust towards him?
"Sir, what do we do now?"
From the driver’s seat, Niu Xiaosan figured out Tang Ye was probably angry because he couldn’t locate the soldiers. Though it boggled him why Tang Ye wanted to find them, he wisely refrained from asking further.
To an outsider with no clue about the situation, a zombie leader looking for a human army might seem like a desperate bid to replenish his food supply.
"We keep looking."
Tang Ye wasn’t willing to give up yet. He ordered Niu Xiaosan to keep driving and continue their search. This went on for three days, with the zombie dragon circling the sky above them. In the end, they didn’t even catch a glimpse of Qiongli and her group!
"Lord Zombie King... uh, I’m hungry. I’ll go look for sothing to eat."
"Get lost."
As they arrived at a small town, Niu Xiaosan’s eyes lit up at the sight of a store filled with food. With Tang Ye’s permission, he dashed inside.
Despite his constant fear in the last few days, following Tang Ye had its perks. For one, zombies wouldn’t attack him, and he got to experience the thrill of mingling freely among a horde of them.
When Niu Xiaosan reappeared with his mouth stuffed full and hugged a bag of instant noodles, Tang Ye said, "After you start the car, be careful. There are people up ahead."
"Oh, okay."
Niu Xiaosan didn’t seem worried. With the Zombie King shielding him, what did he have to fear from other survivors? Even if they had ulterior motives, wouldn’t they be annihilated by the Zombie King?
The zombies parted to open a path as they passed. Niu Xiaosan gunned the engine and accelerated forward.
"Look for the freeway. See if they have gone there."
"Understood."
Tang Ye gazed at the scenery beyond the car window as he draped a military coat over himself and picked up a submachine gun. He now looked every bit like a soldier. With Qiongli’s location unknown, he had to aimlessly search for places they might have gone.
So, where could a large group of people go? If they sought shelter at a survivor base, heading north was out of the question due to the zombie uprising. Entering a certain radius there ant being constantly under attack from hordes of zombies, so they could only head south.
However, Qiongli was trying to get to the Chenyang 169 Base, which was located in Yunchuan City to the north. During the 49th Division’s migration south, they would undoubtedly split from the group. That being said, it was also possible they had sought a desolate wilderness devoid of zombies to establish a new settlent.
Niu Xiaosan drove the off-road vehicle nearly a kiloter, then turned a corner at a street junction. The scene they encountered in the middle of the street left both of them dumbfounded for a mont.
"My Lord, look at this..."
With a perplexed look on his face, Niu Xiaosan turned to Tang Ye who was equally baffled.
"Just what is going on here?"
In front of them, the street was overrun with zombies. Yet, strangely enough, among the undead prowled a few individuals casually engaging in conversation while wielding weapons. From ti to ti, more people erged from a nearby supermarket, throwing stacks of food into the vehicles parked up front.
Several graffiti-sprayed motorcycles were parked nearby. Just glancing at them was enough to realize the identity of these people - they belonged to a biker gang!
But why weren’t the zombies attacking them? They were simply chatting amid the sea of undead, unbothered!
