During the successive days of battling with the zombies, the soldiers learned one crucial fact: the most fatal blows were dealt to the zombie’s head. Basic Level 0 and Level 1 zombies could be eliminated by simply blowing up their heads.
The brain of an ordinary zombie is identical to the human brain. However, a unique difference arises once they evolve to Level 1: their brains solidify into an Evolution Crystal. Once the Evolution Crystal is ford, the brain loses its function, shrinks, and all bodily functions and nervous systems are taken over by the Evolution Crystal.
The Evolution Crystal in the brain of a Level 1 zombie has not completely seized control, so it relies on the remaining energy in the brain for survival. A strike from a human weapon at any location in their brain can still kill them. Level 2 zombies are different. They subsist completely on the Evolution Crystal, which has taken over fully. It has beco like a secondary brain, detached, with its surface growing harder.
The Evolution Crystal of a Level 2 zombie is connected to its skull. To kill it, you either have to crack its skull open or shatter the Evolution Crystal located in its brain.
How terrifying is a Level 2 zombie? The caravan had earlier faced one Level 2 zombie. The victorious encounter had cost them over half their mbers and vehicles!
Looking at the Level 2 zombie before him, Li Xiaojie broke out in a faint cold sweat. Could his shot kill it instantly? If not, that would only make it even more enraged!
Li Xiaojie’s fingers trembled as he struggled to maintain his composure, looking at the Level 2 zombie whose head was tightly wrapped in its flesh. He trusted the power of the sniper rifle he held, but the defensive organ evolved on the zombie was truly enigmatic!
Although the flesh-plate armor and keratin layer that evolved on zombies seed inconsequential, they effectively repelled bullets shot by soldiers!
Bang!
Li Xiaojie fired a round from his sniper rifle, the bullet whistling towards the fleshy shield of the Level 2 zombie.
He had already aid, but wondered whether he could pierce through the flesh shield. His only recourse was to pray, to hope that his bullet could penetrate the flesh shield and hit the crystal in its brain!
Boom!
The human-beast-look-alike zombie seed to anticipate endanger, its shoulder flesh instantly contracting to encapsulate its head!
With a boom, the high-speed bullet savagely plunged into the flesh shield, causing a bloody hole! A large puddle of blood and flesh sprayed out!
Roar!
Realizing its shoulder flesh shield was wounded, it tilted its head and roared mightily. Its shoulder flesh began trembling, issuing a weird buzzing sound.
Whoosh!
The flesh shield opened, revealing its hideously decayed head with flesh turned outwards, as it furiously dashed towards the military off-road vehicle at the rear of the caravan!
"Fire! Fire at will, concentrate fire on this Level 2 zombie! Front wing, support the rear! Every other weapon, attack other zombies!" Li Xiaojie observed the situation and commanded through the speaker!
Bang Bang Bang!
Countless guns pointed at the Level 2 zombie, their tongues of flas spewing out a hail of bullets. However, the zombie’s hard skin blocked all bullets which simply lodged into its epidermis!
The flesh shield on its shoulder was still issuing a "buzz, buzz" sound, visibly regenerating itself. Bullets lodged in its body were slowly extruded by its skin, falling to the ground with a crisp "crackling" sound!
Boom!
It barely moved a few steps to reach behind the last off-road vehicle, lifting a ladder to take a fierce swat, creating a loud sound!
The door of the military off-road vehicle got instantly deford while the ladder in the hand of the zombie also got twisted!
Bang!
Lifting the ladder, it smashed a soldier into a pulpy ss. Discarding the deford ladder, it picked up the soldier smashed into flesh, shoving him, mixed with earth, into his mouth!
Roar!
Having swallowed a large chunk of flesh, it animatedly roared. A few threads of bloody at were still lodged in the crevices of its yellow teeth. The terrified soldiers fell back, staging attacks as they retreated!
With both hands clutching the rear of the vehicle, it forcefully lifted it up and then swinging its body, it furled the jeep and hurled it towards the soldiers!
"Not good! Run!" One soldier was so terrified that he lost his senses, yelling out a warning!
Boom!
A few soldiers could not react in ti and the falling vehicle caused a bloody spray!
"All guns, fire together, kill it now!" Li Xiaojie’s eyes were bloodshot, veins bulging on his forehead, hoarsely yelling!
Witnessing his soldiers dying one by one, he couldn’t help feeling furious. He wished for a tank to just run over the Level 2 zombie. Unfortunately, before the apocalypse, the military bases storing these weapons were always occupied by zombies. The ard units established earlier hadn’t even fully cleared the zombies inside!
Most of the firepower was absorbed by the Level 2 zombie but its ability to restore itself was too strong. The damage caused by the shots was rapidly regenerated! It had an unending source of energy within it, incessantly supplying each part of its body!
The remaining firepower couldn’t halt the advancing zombies from front and back concurrently. Zombies in the front were howling and advancing with suppressed speed, fearlessly charging forward. Zombie after zombie clambered into the driver’s compartnt of the bulldozer and devoured the driver!
The eerie screams of agony filled the air as one soldier after another was butchered. Li Xiaojie realized his mistake but it was too late. He wanted to order a temporary stop to the attack on the Level 2 zombie, but it was already too late. The frontline had already broken!
Zombies were seeping into the convoy like a surge of water. Li Xiaojie, caught between a rock and a hard place, was increasingly desperate and tears of regret flowed down his face.
"I’m sorry, you are all in this ss because of !"
The Level 2 zombie reached him very quickly, raising its sharp claws to pounce on him. Li Xiaojie closed his eyes and calmly awaited his end!
Whoosh!
Just before its claws could touch Li Xiaojie, a flash of cold light whizzed past, severing both its arms!
Li Xiaojie was astonished as he opened his eyes, seeing a man standing in front of him in a blue robe, reminiscent of a knight from the mortal world of ancient tis. Using his peculiar double swords, the man had parried the attack of the Level 2 zombie!
"You....Who are you?"
"Don’t speak!" the man commanded, wielding his twin swords and launching an onslaught on the zombie. His swords, or should one say, knives, were really strange weapons. With a silvery blade, the blade was long but just a finger’s width broad. Under the man’s skilful wielding, they shimred with gorgeous radiance!
