"Go...go ahead." Soone suppressed the fear in their heart and whispered to Ah Fu.
Ah Fu nodded in satisfaction, his eyes gleaming with a strange look at the soldier. He unconsciously licked his lips, about to say sothing, but was hit on the head by a nut thrown by Tang Ye behind him.
"Behave yourself."
Tang Ye, in frustration, had been smacking Ah Fu’s head countless tis throughout the day.
He and Chen Chaoyang had entered Qinshan Base together. The first thing they saw was the gore of rotten flesh not far away, and the colorful innards scattered everywhere. The soldiers from Shiwuguan Base, who had co along, couldn’t help but frown. The streets on both sides were extrely filthy, with decaying flesh visible everywhere.
And that patch of gore had obviously just been made. One look and they knew it was the result of a bombardnt. The sll of gunpowder still hung in the air.
Further ahead, the barrel of a tank was aid at a crying child who seed completely defenseless. A man and a woman sat on top of the tank. Because of the distance, they couldn’t see their faces clearly, but they had the feeling that these two people must be quite attractive.
At the sa ti, they sighed, the rumors about Shiwuguan Base were true. The situation in these survivor bases was far from good—in fact, it was brutal. At least at Shiwuguan Base, there were rules restricting people from harming each other, but at Qinshan Base, it was complete pandemonium!
Tang Ye, as a Level 6 zombie, instantly figured out that the gore was caused by that tank. And now it was about to harm another.
His eyesight was good. He could clearly see the two people sitting on the tank. But when he saw the face of that girl, Tang Ye couldn’t help but narrow his eyes.
He felt that the girl looked sowhat familiar, especially her eyes, which reminded him of Ning Yu’er.
It felt like a long ti ago when Ning Yu’er used to gaze at him with those sa eyes every ti he returned to the dormitory.
However, the girl on the tank looked different from Ning Yu’er; only her eyes were familiar. They retained that sa gentleness, as if the expression Ning Yu’er used to have when looking at him was frozen in her eyes.
Very strange.
She reminded him of Ning Yu’er and yet didn’t. Ning Yu’er could never just sit by while a tank aid its gun at a child. She even pitied zombies for god’s sake.
Foolishly adorable.
Her eyebrows and eyes were delicately aligned, showing gentleness at all tis. But the only thing present in those eyes was indifference, with not an iota of sympathy to be found.
Appearing to be content, the young man laughed and gazed at the girl beside him. He took a deep breath, enchanted by her scent.
"Bieli, will you do it?"
"Sure."
Chen Bieli smiled. Amidst the attention of everyone, she raised her hand, while the passersby turned their heads away.
There’s a saying that goes: don’t judge a book by its cover.
So people may seem honest but aren’t. They’re always up to no good secretly.
Just like Chen Bieli—she had the exact appearance of an angel sent to salvage all living creatures but contrastingly, her actions were ruthless. This contrast made it unbearable to look at her.
Underneath her pure and kind appearance lurked a heart utterly black!
The people of Shiwuguan Base instinctively clenched their fists upon seeing this. Their lifestyle in the base, despite its underlying brutality, had restored so of their humanity. Naturally, they couldn’t bear to watch a child get blown to pieces.
They were struggling in their hearts, unsure whether they should rescue the child or not. The girl appeared to be just an ordinary human. Besides, the young man looked like a Level 2 New Human at most. However, all the soldiers accompanying him were New Humans, not a single ordinary person among them!
A Level 3 New Human, dressed remarkably, passed by. He glanced at the young man and quickly looked away, not wanting to provoke him.
This young man clearly held a high position. The last thing they wanted was to cause trouble for Tang Ye.
They looked at Tang Ye, who squinted his eyes and stared back at the tank.
"Boss..."
"Stay quiet."
Soone opened their mouth, asking Tang Ye to save the child. Whether it was before or after the Apocalypse, the innocence of certain children always stirred the conscience of even the most brutal thugs. There are no inherently bad or good people. It’s all a matter of perspective.
Chen Bieli’s hand traced an arc in the air before slowly falling. Countless survivors, who had evolved into New Humans, sensed the tank’s barrel gathering energy. Any mont now, a shell would fly out and go "boom", turning the child into mince at!
Bang!
Chen Bieli’s hand finally hit the bottom of the barrel, the hulking fra of the tank recoiled as if ready to fire, and an artillery shell rushed towards the child with imnse wind pressure.
Many people sighed. They didn’t know why they were sighing, as they had seen such scenes plenty of tis before. Perhaps it was because a girl had initiated this attack.
Just at the critical mont, the air around Tang Ye turned violent, his imnse vitality unfolded, and with a whoosh, Tang Ye completely vanished!
Boom!
An intense fla burst out, enveloping the area where the child had been. So people closed their eyes, but soon realized sothing was amiss.
What was missing from the explosion of the shell?
They opened their eyes. Yes, sothing was definitely missing—the mist of blood that appears when a body is blown up!
The mont the shell was flying towards him the child’s mind went blank, the fear of death overwhelming him. However, just as the shell arrived in front of him, he felt a hand pull him away. Then there was a whirl of vertigo, and he saw a burst of fla explode not too far from him.
Looking up, the child saw a young man with a strange and captivating face standing behind him.
"You’re safe."
"Huh? You saved , brother." He had just escaped from the shadow of death and the child took a while to react. His body relaxed, swaying for a mont before he was about to fall, but Tang Ye steadied him.
"Get out of here quick."
"Ok."
Nonchalantly, the boy nodded. He looked intensively at Tang Ye, as if to engrave his face in his mory, then turned and ran away as fast as he could.
After the boy left, Tang Ye stared at the man and woman on the tank, his eyes flashing with a murderous aura!
Compared to their wanton killing of innocents, he felt his own brutality as a zombie was rather childish.
Sotis, humans could be worse than zombies!
"The things you guys have done, not even zombies would stoop so low, hehe..."
He stared at the young man and Chen Bieli, his voice as cold as winter bone-chilling cold.
"Who are you?"
The young man furrowed his brows. He didn’t clearly see what Tang Ye had just done. He wasn’t stupid; he imdiately guessed that the person in front of him must be a formidable New Human!
