Zhang Jingqi’s breathing beca rapid, and a look of pain gradually surfaced on his face, his brows tightly knitted together. People could clearly see the expression on his face, but no one knew what he was feeling at that mont. His gaze never shifted, fixedly staring at everyone in his view.
At that mont, aside from the eleven people led by Ye Changgong who chose to stand by Su Sigui, everyone else looked at Zhang Jingqi with eyes full of unconscious sorrow.
He lost this high-stakes gamble, and the price he paid was his life! This also ant that everyone else lost everything as well!
They watched as the ink-blackness on Su Sigui’s arm slowly transferred onto Zhang Jingqi’s face. The next second, the veins on his forehead bulged one by one, and soon his body began to convulse violently as if electrocuted. His breathing grew even more rapid as ti passed, each breath seeming to take all his strength!
"Uh... uh... ugh..." From his mouth ca a sound that was neither human nor zombie-like, a hoarse cry conveying such pain that it seed to transmit across space to everyone, sending chills down their spines. They could see Zhang Jingqi’s agony, but no one knew what Su Sigui had done to him. After five or six minutes, Zhang Jingqi’s trembling body finally stopped. Su Sigui’s gaze swept across everyone present, not once did she lower her head to look at Zhang Jingqi!
As her hand slowly lifted and opened, a purple Evolution Crystal Core appeared in her palm!
This scene made everyone not just cold to their bones but also feel as if their skin would burst open!
Zhang Jingqi’s Evolution Crystal Core was forcibly extracted by her! What kind of thod was this? Just watching it made their heads start to ache!
Her actions were casual, killing Zhang Jingqi seed to her no different than casually squashing an ant by the roadside!
No one present dared to et her gaze. Anyone her eyes passed over would involuntarily lower their head, and upon occasionally seeing Zhang Jingqi’s bloodshot eyes, their hearts couldn’t help but tremble!
"Whew~" Yan Xing, sitting not far from Yao Gong, exhaled a long breath, wiped the sweat from his forehead, and glanced at Qiuyue not too far away. Although she didn’t look at him, he still smiled, a smile of relief as if surviving a disaster.
Only those who have experienced it can understand how he feels now. He was grateful that he knew Su Sigui well enough, understood her nature!
He didn’t know when it started, but he began blindly following her choices. No matter how absurd or impossible her decisions seed, he would follow her to the end, and this ti was no exception!
And this ti, his blind following did not lead to a wrong bet!
He felt his legs go a bit weak, but fortunately, his situation was safe. His earlier choice had already proven to her that he was on her side, he wasn’t the one ant to die!
Indeed, this woman would not easily take risks without absolute certainty. She had already beco a Level 9 New Human, and even if the remaining ninety-plus Level 8 New Humans were unwilling, they couldn’t change the outco!
In that mont, his gaze t with Chi Biyi’s, as if both felt fortunate for their choice. Both then shared a knowing smile, and their tightly wound nerves relaxed completely.
As if to assert his existence, Yan Xing was about to say sothing when Su Sigui’s icy voice ca from up front once again, making him hurriedly shut his mouth.
"I feel sorry for your choice. I don’t want to beco a tyrant, but it doesn’t an I can’t be one. You’ve run out of chances, so now, will you end yourselves, or should I help you?"
"Of course, if you wish to experience Zhang Jingqi’s fate, I would be more than willing to let you try!"
Her words left no room for compromise; aside from Xu Tianyu and others, she gave no one else any chance to negotiate!
In just this short mont, nurous thoughts flashed through the crowd’s minds, their expressions varied. So imdiately thought of gambling, that is, escaping!
But looking at those around them, no one dared to be the first to flee. Although they had never experienced the power of a Level 9 New Human firsthand, the might of a Zombie King offered them a reference point.
If the gap between a Level 9 New Human and a Level 9 zombie wasn’t large, escaping from her grasp seed like a daydream!
No one wanted to die, but the situation was rather complex, akin to being threatened by an ard bandit. The first to escape would undoubtedly be shot, so who would want to be that person?
The best ti to escape would be during chaos! But the issue was, a Level 9 New Human was incomparable to a bandit with a gun! Even if chaos offered the best chance to flee, where could they possibly escape to?
Once she evolved into a Level 9 New Human, everything humanity had, belonged to her!
Unless they could escape to other continents miles away and never return!
Unfortunately, they didn’t have that ability, nor that much ti!
Everyone in the eting room struggled internally, Su Sigui offered them two choices, the latter being resistance and then tortured to death like Zhang Jingqi! Although they didn’t know what kind of pain having one’s Evolution Crystal Core forcibly extracted would bring, no one wanted to find out, whereas the forr was suicide, which perhaps was a more rciful death.
Everyone was waiting, waiting for soone to stand up and attempt to flee, but during this waiting period, Xu Tianyu and his group of eleven consciously locked the eting room door and stood in different positions, ready to prevent an escape. Though this might not stop so many frenzied Level 8 New Human Powerhouses, it could delay them a bit. Su Sigui wanted to cleanse Cloud Gorge Base of its Level 8 New Humans, willing or not!
The atmosphere grew increasingly tense, with everyone glancing at each other, praying for soone to be the first to stand up. After about three minutes, finally, a middle-aged man with a bureaucratic air stood up from his seat, Su Sigui’s gaze swiftly landed on him, as did everyone else’s expectantly.
Yet, unfortunately, he didn’t choose to flee, instead, after standing up, he first grabbed the kettle in front of him and poured water into a teacup, filling it about a third of the way. Then he put down the kettle and picked up the teacup, facing Su Sigui.
Just as people wondered at his intent, he showed a bitter smile, gazing around and sighed, "Looks like I picked the wrong side, alas... though it’s hard to let go, what other choice do I have, right?"
His words, much like Zhang Jingqi’s earlier actions, served as a reminder to others. Having said that, he earnestly addressed Su Sigui, "Thank Mayor Su for this opportunity, but no need for you to do it, then. I wish you good luck!"
