Before Brother Shi could speak, the cigarette, half-smoked in his hand, was snatched away by Ghost Head. However, he didn’t mind; he wasn’t a smoker and wasn’t used to the harshness of smoke, so he didn’t care about giving it to Ghost Head.

But he underestimated the allure a cigarette has for a seasoned smoker like Ghost Head. Not only was the half-smoked cigarette taken away, but Ghost Head crouched down and picked up the tobacco that had spilled onto the ground and rolled it back up.

"Can’t waste a thing!" Ghost Head said with a sly smile to Brother Shi. Then he borrowed a lighter from soone nearby, lit the cigarette, and took a pleasant drag under the envious gaze of others. Luckily, the fight hadn’t begun yet; a nearby officer rely glanced over and said, "Hurry up and smoke it, don’t screw up later."

"Alright, alright!"

Ghost Head laughed in response. Watching the officer turn away, he took a puff, slightly tilted his head, and exhaled a white smoke toward the sky, his face full of enjoynt. Behind the zombie-resistant wall, atop a building, several Level 8 New Humans had already activated their exoskeleton armor, cold steel covering their entire bodies, and the nearly temperatureless sunlight cast a cold gleam across their visors.

Ghost Head glanced around; all the Level 8 New Humans who had co to the Dangerous Sanctuary City were on that building. After Four-Eyed One finished speaking, a few more arrived. Now, there were over a dozen Level 8 New Humans standing atop the building, overseeing everything below. But, this wasn’t everyone; there were over thirty Level 8 New Humans in the Dangerous Sanctuary City, two had already died in battle at the front, perhaps now mixed among the zombie horde as new Level 8 zombies. Including those on the rooftop, the total was less than twenty. Where were the rest? It was impossible to know, at least he hadn’t seen Yang Xiangfeng.

"Has he escaped?" Ghost Head showed a mocking smile; this seed unsurprising to anyone. As the unrivaled dictator of this Sanctuary City, Yang Xiangfeng never seed like the brave type unafraid of death. What they faced this ti was the Zombie King! Among the Six Zombie Kings, any one of them was beyond people’s imagination in terror, having never suffered any defeat when invading human survivor bases. The Dangerous Sanctuary City wouldn’t be the sole successful case either; knowing they’d face a Zombie King, escaping was among the options.

Sigh~

He sighed; the cigarette in his hand was already half gone and couldn’t withstand many drags. After a few puffs, it was finished, and when the burning part singed his fingers, Ghost Head casually tossed the butt aside. He glanced around once more, seemingly wanting to rember every grass and tree before dying. Yet this ti, he seed to notice sothing different.

"Huh? That person is..."

While scoping out unusual happenings, he unexpectedly humd. In the distance, soone sat at the edge of a building’s ledge. Ghost Head’s attention was entirely drawn to the sight. Indeed, it was a person, a woman at that. Though faint, he discerned it was a young girl wearing an orange hoodie, denim shorts, and red shoes, though the details were unclear. Despite the distance, Ghost Head could sense the youthful energy emanating from the girl.

A girl who feels very clean, as if she doesn’t belong to the Apocalypse, having crossed over from a bustling city before the Apocalypse. Her aura clashed with the surroundings.

"Who is she..."

Ghost Head squinted, trying to see what the girl looked like. It was as if soone else resided in his mind, constantly telling him that the girl’s appearance wouldn’t disappoint. Sadly, his vision was limited, and he couldn’t make out her features, only knowing the girl seated at the building’s ledge didn’t resemble a New Human.

In the sky, a few red-feathered birds circled overhead; their number wasn’t large, but their presence couldn’t be ignored. Occasionally, a few would land on the girl’s shoulders, nuzzling their fluffy heads against her fair neck.

"What are you looking at?"

At this mont, Brother Shi reached out and patted Ghost Head, bringing him back to reality.

"Look over there, there’s soone." Ghost Head turned and pointed to where the girl was located.

"A person?"

Following Ghost Head’s finger, Brother Shi furrowed his brows.

"Is there anyone there? There’s nothing there."

"How is that possible, there..." Ghost Head turned back, but before he could finish his sentence, his expression froze. The girl who had been sitting on the building’s ledge was gone, with only two red-feathered birds remaining where she disappeared.

"N-No way?"

"Are your eyes playing tricks on you?" Brother Shi looked at Ghost Head skeptically, wondering if he’d hallucinated. But Ghost Head could swear on his life that there really was a girl where he’d seen her earlier; when had she vanished?

Without responding to Brother Shi, Ghost Head’s eyes scanned the entire building, repeatedly searching. He couldn’t find any place suitable for climbing. What did this an? Could that girl have jumped off?

"Sigh, what a pity." He sighed inwardly; that girl didn’t look like a New Human. Currently, the gates of the Sanctuary City were shut, and people had long evacuated earlier. The girl might not have escaped in ti and was trapped inside. As for why she sat at the building’s edge, an unsettling guess lingered, hoping she hadn’t done what he feared.

He wanted to take a glance over there, but the approaching zombie horde didn’t allow ti, nor would the officers permit him.

Only one puzzling aspect remained. Although he knew little about the red-feathered birds, it seed that such birds typically avoided people... but just monts ago, those red-feathered birds not only approached the girl, their actions were unusually intimate, akin to the relationship between a pet and its owner.

That girl wasn’t simple...

Ghost Head considered silently, but before he could ponder further, Brother Shi spoke beside him, "Hey, stop looking; the zombie horde is coming!"

Upon hearing this, Ghost Head imdiately snapped to attention, looking towards the northwest. The sky there was becoming increasingly purple, with nurous spore-like things attaching to distant buildings, directly altering their original forms. anwhile, scattered soldier zombies in uniforms had co closer from afar.

And the black line behind them grew several tis thicker. The scale of the zombie horde remained unknown, but the countless stomping feet raising flying dust signaled that its magnitude far exceeded imagination!
