Seeing Brother Shi like this, the two of them didn’t know what to say. They instinctively looked at Yong, who was sitting right next to Brother Shi. This guy seed like a terminator—his face was devoid of expression, his eyes showed no trace of emotion, and he sat rigidly, motionless. He probably hadn’t even noticed what they were talking about.

Helpless, the two of them could only exchange glances. They had both experienced the pain of losing a loved one before, so they deeply understood that helplessness. But they didn’t know how to comfort Brother Shi, so silence was all they could offer.

The atmosphere, frozen and unbearable, beca stifling. Soon, Ghost Head tried to break the tension by asking, "So... what was your brother’s na? We... we don’t actually know who he was..."

"My brother... his na was Luo Zhenfeng. He said he never thought about running away, damn it... He actually wanted to be a hero, hahaha! Damn it, he even said he wanted people to rember his na, haha... Who the hell is gonna rember his na? Who does he think he is? And now look—dead, right? Serves him right!"

"What’s wrong with staying alive? Don’t you think? Isn’t life enough? Why is dying the only thing that makes so people happy? So many people are dead—would anyone really miss him? And those two Level 8 New Humans, embarrassing themselves by stepping out to fight even when they couldn’t win! Serves them right! Everybody deserves it! Let them die! Tell , how long has it been? Humanity hasn’t even seen the shadow of a single Level 9 New Human on our side. Just wait; that stupid Bai Fa demon is definitely going to co out to steal what’s left, and then it’ll all be over! Why not live a bit longer while you can? I just don’t understand—are people rushing to get themselves killed because there’s sothing wrong with their brains?"

Bang! Crash!

Brother Shi seed deeply shaken, spiraling into a frenzy as he spoke. His tone grew increasingly agitated, almost as if he had lost his mind. Finally, he grabbed his phone and hurled it out the window with all his strength. It smashed onto the ground below, shattering completely. After doing this, Brother Shi fell silent, saying nothing for a long ti. In that mont, he finally understood why he’d felt uneasy after reading the email his brother had sent him. Deep down, he had already known. If his brother didn’t want him to return to the Sanctuary City, why did he specifically tell him not to?

Why did he himself choose to go back to Sanctuary City?

Crooked Neck and Ghost Head turned their heads back around as well and followed his lead by saying nothing. They really didn’t know what to say.

Perhaps, to Brother Shi, whether or not he went to Bai Ling didn’t matter anymore.

As for Yong, when Brother Shi threw the phone, he finally shifted his gaze over, apparently wondering what he was doing.

The car beca deathly quiet, matching the equally lifeless scenery outside the window. The oppressive atmosphere only thickened as the car drove on with its lonely screech of "ziya ziya," rolling forward on the road. After a while, Brother Shi suddenly spoke, and his next words caught everyone off guard.

"I want to go back... Don’t worry, I won’t ask you to co with . Just stop the car; I’ll walk back by myself. You can take all the remaining Yajin except for twenty pieces, which I’ll keep for myself..."

"Huh? Why are you suddenly saying you want to go back? That’s not necessary, is it?"

Brother Shi’s statent caught Ghost Head off guard, leaving him stunned. Before Ghost Head could respond, Crooked Neck stepped in first, trying to dissuade him. The turnaround was too abrupt—earlier, when Crooked Neck wanted to return to the Sanctuary City, Brother Shi had talked him out of it. Now that Brother Shi wanted to go back, Crooked Neck was at a loss for words.

Ghost Head, who had wanted to say sothing, saw Crooked Neck speak first and lowered his head instead, his thoughts racing. It seed the courage he had suppressed last night was beginning to bubble up again.

He was thinking deeply now, as though hesitating over what decision to make.

Crooked Neck, for his part, just felt dizzy. Earlier, when he said he wanted to go back, he hadn’t fully thought through what might happen on the way. Ultimately, his impulsiveness had outweighed his rational judgnt, causing him to ignore so key details. Now, however, rationality outweighed impulse, and as Brother Shi expressed his desire to return, Crooked Neck couldn’t help but consider the consequences.

If they went back now, the efforts of the past two days would be completely wasted.

"Wait... Have you thought it through? If you go back now, actually..."

"Crooked Neck, stop the car." Before Crooked Neck could finish speaking, Brother Shi interrupted decisively. His tone carried absolute resolve; he was going back, no matter what, and no one could stop him.

"But if you go back, what can you even do? Get yourself killed?" Crooked Neck said. He didn’t stop the car, nor did he slow down.

Brother Shi stared out the window, listening to Crooked Neck’s words. A smile suddenly appeared on his face, but it was a smile full of finality.

"Haha... Pretty much. I can’t do anything if I go back... But my brother won’t die for nothing. I have to go back... I’ll settle the score and fight those zombies to the death... Ha~ Hmph..." Brother Shi paused for a mont, taking a deep breath. The smile on his face grew radiant, and then he continued, "It might sound crazy, but I just realized how liberating it is to have no family left. Is this what it ans to live by embracing death? Maybe my understanding is different from others’. Anyway, if you want to co with , I’d be happy about it."

"You..." Crooked Neck looked at Brother Shi’s face and caught the expression in his eyes through the rearview mirror. He knew there was no point in saying anything more. At this mont, he also found himself hesitating about the road back. He turned his gaze to Ghost Head, pausing for a while before saying, "Maybe... you should try talking him out of it?"

Ghost Head, deep in thought, shared Brother Shi’s actions—his gaze fixed on the scenery outside the window, though it seed like he was looking not at the scenery but at mories of the past.

"Hey?" Crooked Neck finally called out, breaking Ghost Head’s reverie.

"What?"

"Try talking him out of it. He wants to go back..."

Crooked Neck gave a thumbs-up gesture toward Brother Shi in the backseat, but Ghost Head didn’t turn to look. Instead, he remained silent.

"Damn it, what’s wrong with you two? Ghost Head, did you wake up this morning with your brain scrambled? Earlier, the two of you were talking out of it..."

"Hey, are you even listening to ? Answer !"

Ghost Head still didn’t respond, his gaze blankly fixed on the road ahead. After shouting a few tis, Crooked Neck got fed up and simply shut his mouth, plunging the car into another stretch of silence. However, monts later, Ghost Head suddenly said, "I’m going back too..."

"What!"

Ghost Head’s words completely stunned Crooked Neck. He could understand Brother Shi’s decision to return, but Ghost Head’s sudden involvent made no sense to him. He instinctively assud Ghost Head was joking.

"Are you ssing with ? You’re going back too?"

"That’s right."
