Xiao Hu’s question went unanswered; the dormitory remained silent, his eyes dimd, but he was already accustod to this and didn’t take it to heart.
He stopped talking, picked up his toiletries, and placed them in the basin. What surprised him about these movents was that today, unusually, no one bothered him.
Moreover, when he had entered, their faces didn’t bear the usual smiles and laughter. Usually, his roommates were always chatting and laughing until he reached the door, but as soon as he entered, the atmosphere would turn cold.
Today, for so reason, the atmosphere was the sa whether he was present or not.
It was eerily silent.
"Alright, I’ll go wash myself," Xiao Hu said to himself, taking his basin and heading outside.
While a few of his roommates exchanged looks, each carrying a different expression.
Soon, Xiao Hu returned with his toiletries. Upon entering, he seed to notice his roommates were acting strangely, not greeting him warmly as usual. The unprecedented silence filled the dormitory as everyone busied themselves with their own tasks without any roughhousing or laughter.
Quickly, the ti ca, and at Wang Dabiao’s call, Old Cao turned off the lights, plunging the dormitory into darkness. Xiao Hu climbed into bed, bewildered, his roommates’ reactions causing so panic within him. This was not normal at all.
Was sothing about to happen?
Seeing the odd expressions on Old Cao and the others suggested that sothing was definitely amiss!
People began to drift off to sleep, but not long afterward, the dormitory door was suddenly pushed open. A group of fully ard Peace Party soldiers wearing exoskeleton armor stord in.
The lights in the dormitory instantly flicked back on, everyone stunned turned their gazes toward the door.
"Hey, Black Three-Head, what are you doing in our dorm?" Wang Dabiao asked with a puzzled look, recognizing the group who, still in their battling gear, suggested imminent action. He knew their leader; their arrival often ant an investigation into so event.
The man Wang Dabiao called Black Three-Head pulled off his omni-combat helt, smiled at Wang Dabiao, and said, "Die, Stinky Bighead. You think I’m here for you? It’s not really a big deal, though soone did steal so guns today, and the higher-ups suspect it was soone on duty today. They told us to co and check. I rember one of your roomies was on duty, right?"
"Ah?" Wang Dabiao blinked but quickly realized, casting a fleeting glance at Xiao Hu. He knew Xiao Hu was responsible because the letter Xiao Hu had written said it all.
However, Wang Dabiao was torn about whether to cover for Xiao Hu. Still, after thinking it over, he ultimately felt Xiao Hu was avenging Ding Fulong, who was like an older brother to them. For his sake, it wasn’t hopeless to save Xiao Hu, even if he was a coward.
Wang Dabiao smiled and said, "Actually, one of us did have guard duty today. It was him." Pointing at Xiao Hu, his action made Xiao Hu’s heart jump to his throat!
He knew exactly what he had done today! His actions could be plainly stated as theft!
He was well aware of the punishnt for stealing weapons within the Peace Party. He rely wanted to avenge Ding Fulong, but had forgotten Ding’s sacrifice, and began to resent his roommates who might now wish for his death!
Even if he hadn’t taken the gun!
Once exposed, unless General Shang personally vouched for him, there was no escaping the sentence of death!
Panic started to set in Xiao Hu’s heart; he stared nervously at Wang Dabiao, who did not even glance back at him.
He was pleading inwardly!
Don’t say it! Please don’t!
But he might have worried too much, as the next second, the words from Wang Dabiao made him wish he could kneel and thank him for his lifesaving grace.
"However, you know this guy, he’s a coward, a really honest guy, scared of everything. It probably wasn’t him."
"Is that so?" Black Three-Head looked at Xiao Hu, his eyebrows knitting together, a sinister look in his eyes. Clearly, this man was also a tough survivor of the early Apocalypse.
Black Three-Head was not his real na, just a nickna due to his dark skin, which, after being burned with red-hot iron bars on his shoulders during early Apocalypse, left two dark scars. Without careful inspection, it looked like he had three heads, hence the nickna.
However, his dark complexion added to his piercing gaze, almost as if possessing a soul-harvesting aura.
He stared at Xiao Hu for a while, and soon, under the pressure, Xiao Hu lowered his head.
"You’re Xiao Hu, I saw you this morning."
"Yeah." Xiao Hu weakly responded. As Black Three-Head ntioned, he indeed encountered Black Three-Head earlier that morning, not expecting the man to rember him. In Xiao Hu’s view, he was a nobody in the Peace Party, while Black Three-Head was a major figure.
Being noticed by such a person gave Xiao Hu an odd feeling.
"You didn’t take the equipnt assigned to you today?"
Before Xiao Hu could respond, Black Three-Head quickly asked the next question, almost with no connection to the previous one. "No, I didn’t take it."
"Do you know the serial number on your equipnt today?"
"Ah?" Xiao Hu thought for a second, about to speak, but then realized, who morizes those things? Yet, he had specifically rembered the code on his equipnt today in anticipation of this very situation. Luckily, his quick thinking let him realize Black Three-Head was trying to trap him.
And Xiao Hu silently rejoiced at his newfound clarity of mind.
"Who knows about that?" Xiao Hu stuttered in response.
The other didn’t question further, just stared intensely at Xiao Hu, who couldn’t maintain eye contact for long with Black Three-Head. A few seconds later, he lowered his head, his posture betraying a sense of guilt.
