"It seems to be that one."

In the nearby crowd, Lin Jie, holding a cellphone, saw a green dot on the screen not far from him. Looking ahead, one familiar person was wearing an undershirt embroidered with the sanctuary’s emblem, exactly soone he had implanted with a slave worm.

However, instantly, Lin Jie grew puzzled—next to the sanctuary soldier were two other people he didn’t recognize. They should also be from the sanctuary, but because they were out when he infiltrated, they weren’t implanted with slave worms. By the looks of the three, they didn’t seem to have turned to the Peace Party. Instead, they had probably gotten into so conflict with Peace Party soldiers.

Looking towards the mutants, Lin Jie grew even more puzzled.

"What are those things?" After just a glance, Lin Jie’s attention was drawn by a woman.

"Hehehe~ How wonderful, could that woman be Li Henian’s sister? What an unexpected find."

With a sinister chuckle, Lin Jie did not notice that his odd expression had frightened those nearby into stepping back.

"Damn, is that guy sick or what?"

The boy who burst from the defensive line cried as he ran towards the area swarming with mutants. The people behind the defensive line sweated for him in anxiety. Wei Ba and his comrades also stopped arguing and watched without breathing a word as the boy ran flawlessly forward.

"Sister, you won’t die, I’ve co ho to save you."

The boy, his voice tear-stained, quickened his pace as a mutant emitted a "woo woo" sound and reached for the boy with its rotten, palm-less hand. Its wriggling tentacles wrapped around the boy’s arm, trying to pull him into its fetid embrace. But its flesh was too decayed to hold the boy, who kept running forward regardless of its putrid tentacles, rely pulling lightly, a pile of rotten flesh flung onto the ground.

Most of the creature’s body was torn off by the boy as he ran forward, oblivious to the consequences of direct contact with these grotesque beings.

Wei Ba and his comrades breathed in relief, just happy the boy wasn’t hurt, but they didn’t notice the Peace Party soldiers shaking their heads involuntarily.

"Sigh~"

A soldier sighed, imdiately drawing Wei Ba’s irritation.

"What are you sighing for? Can’t stand to see soone else alive, can you?"

Provoked by Wei Ba, the soldier also felt annoyed.

"What are you yelling for? A bunch of bumpkins who ca out of the sanctuary, just look."

With a cold huff, Wei Ba looked over, soon his facial expression turning into a blank stare.

"This... how is this possible, what happened to him?"

"Those aren’t zombies. Direct contact with their bodies causes infection. Even new humans can’t be immune. Now you understand that we’re looking out for your best interests. If you had even touched the blood or anything those filthy monsters shed, you’d be infected," the soldier by his side explained.

Wei Ba was speechless; the boy, just an ordinary person, had effortlessly torn apart those disgusting mutants with his strength.

Even an ordinary person could tear apart their flimsy flesh, Wei Ba couldn’t figure out what was so special about these bizarre zombies. However, he soon realized his mistake as the boy, unscratched by the zombies, hadn’t even been caught by the limbs and broken bodies following him, when he suddenly fell to the ground, screaming in agony!

Wei Ba saw the boy’s flesh rotting at an alarming rate! Finally, he transford into a monster no longer recognizable as human and stood up, charging toward the defensive line with the other monsters!

However, no one noticed that Lin Jie’s ear twitched.

"Can the new humans also be infected?" he thought to himself. He had watched everyone as the child rapidly mutated into a monstrous form amid the corpses, his heart skipping a beat, while on his phone, the location of the enslavent worm was right in the area where the mutant was.

With the tragic state of this boy, Wei Ba and the two others were stunned in place, not daring to speak about running to save their companion. With such terrifying infectious capabilities, they could enter, but leaving would be difficult.

"But..." The two hesitated, not daring to go in now. Everyone wanted to live. If they were facing a group of zombies, they might have the courage to do it, as their new human identities could sustain only minor injuries among the corpse crowd. They could still go in to check on their comrades’ casualties or rescue them, but this kind—where touching it once ant infection—was a bit too dangerous...

After all, no one is an absolute saint; people are people, to be judged by their actions alone. Heart does not define sainthood, and while Wei Ba and the others held worldviews similar to those before the Apocalypse, the people from before the Apocalypse also could not achieve the great enlightennt of sacrificing themselves for others.

Thus, Wei Ba and the others were full of hesitation at this mont. The life and death of their comrades were laughably insignificant compared to their own survival at that instant.

"Stop them!"

Li Qingtian, standing on a corpse-cart behind, shouted loudly as the mutants in the group imdiately roared and launched a ferocious attack on these disgusting creatures. Their bodies, silvery and massive like steel, ford a wall that blocked all the monsters.

Seemingly sensing the hostility from the silver-armored corpses, the mutants also went mad, one after another lunging at the silver-armored corpses. In a short ti, each silver-armored corpse was covered with disgusting mutants, their bodies covered in pus-yellow fluids left by the mutants.

"Ah, what is happening inside?"

Suddenly, one of the two n following Wei Ba felt a tap on his shoulder. He glanced over, unbothered, and only shook his head, saying, "Don’t know, an outbreak of the zombie virus inside."

"Then what are you doing here?"

"We have friends inside, not sure how they’re doing, ah, you are..."

After exchanging a few words with the person who tapped his shoulder, he suddenly felt that sothing was off. The voice sounded so familiar, quickly turning back, he took a closer look and realized that it was Lin Jie!

Ah!

He was startled, his shout of surprise drawing the puzzled looks of people around.

"What’s wrong?" Wei Ba asked, glancing at Lin Jie, frowning slightly as he did not recognize the person.

"No! Nothing’s wrong, I’m fine, don’t worry."

The person was terrified, his gaze fixed on Lin Jie, unable to hide his fear. Wei Ba and another person did not know Lin Jie, but he did—he still had that damned enslavent worm on the back of his neck!

Lin Jie looked at Wei Ba, his face wearing a harmless smile.

"Sorry for suddenly appearing and startling this brother."
