"I’ve heard that Kade Blackstone was in Silverfall the other day."

Felix almost choked at Eden’s words. They were sitting in his house, drinking tea and eating leftover cake from work that Eden had brought, chatting about everything and nothing, Felix talking about Vivi, while Eden telling Felix all the newest gossip... When all of a sudden, Kade’s na dropped.

Naturally, Felix was already aware that the Alpha had visited Silverfall. He was the one to arrange his eting with the witch, and Kade even had spent the night in his house! (Only in his wolf form, though, so it was all perfectly innocent!)

But he had been in town for like, what, 24 hours? Just for one day, and Eden had already managed to find out about it. And he didn’t even live in this part of town! Not that it was a problem that he knew, but...

"Ahem!" Felix cleared his throat. "Where did you hear that from?" he asked, trying to sound casual.

"Isla. She said she had seen him enter the bank on Thursday morning."

Right. Of course she had to. If it were Isla, then it would be hard to pass it off as just a mistake, that she might have seen wrong. Isla used to have her eyes on Kade, after all, so it seed rather unlikely she would mistake him for soone else.

"He must have gone to withdraw money for the witch..." Felix muttered, more to himself than to Eden...

But how could it possibly escape Eden’s attention? His eyes narrowed, focusing on Felix, like a predator who had just spotted a mouthwatering prey. Or, in this case, a juicy piece of gossip.

"So you already knew about it."

Ugh.

Felix couldn’t help but groan inwardly. Although he didn’t dislike Eden, the Oga’s nosiness bothered him sotis, especially when Eden tried to inquire about things Felix didn’t want to talk about, such as his relationship with Kade. Well, primarily Kade. Eden was at least considerate enough not to ask about his past... But asking about Kade seed like a fair ga, apparently.

"Yes, I knew," Felix admitted, albeit unwillingly.

To which Eden’s mouth curved in a smile, and he leaned forward over the table, only getting more interested in the topic. "So the two of you keep in touch?"

"No, we don’t," Felix quickly denied. Which wasn’t even a lie - at the mont, they really didn’t have much contact. It was only Kade ssaging Felix once a week, while Felix remained unresponsive because he needed ’space’. He had made an exception the other day because it had been an ergency, but that didn’t change anything. He was reluctant to let that incident with the rogue Beta slide so easily, as he still didn’t quite trust Kade’s words...

"Then how did you know about his visit, hmm?" Eden smiled, not giving up.

"I... He just needed sothing from the witch, so he had called to ask if I could help him out with it. I arranged a eting for him, he ca, he talked with the witch about whatever it was that he needed, and then left. That’s all."

Luckily, Kade’s scent was already gone from Felix’s house, so nothing could challenge his story. It was the result of all the hard work Felix had done to pacify Remi, scrubbing all the surfaces and ventilating the house, while the disgruntled fox was scoffing and scowling, walking around and spreading his pheromones everywhere in an attempt to reclaim the place as his territory.

What Felix didn’t expect, though, was that his scent would cause another issue...

"Is that so?" Eden lifted his brows, still unconvinced, but he didn’t press any further. Instead, he asked, "What’s up with you and the witch, though?"

"Hmm?" Felix flinched, surprised by the change of the topic. "What do you an?"

"You said Kade had asked you to arrange a eting for him."

"Well, Kade lives quite far from Silverfall, and the witch is elusive. He didn’t want to drive all the way here only to be turned away at the door, you see?"

"Yeah, yeah, I get that. But I’m curious as to why you were the one to help him out with this."

"Whom else should he ask?" Felix shrugged his shoulders, trying to maintain a neutral expression. "I’m probably the person he knows the best in Silverfall, considering that we had t multiple tis during his stay here... And I’m also familiar with the witch, having used his services a few tis before. Kade knew about it. So, isn’t it natural I would be one of the first people he’d think to ask?"

"You’re familiar with the witch... Is that it?"

"Well, yeah?"

"Then... Why is... the witch’s scent all over your house?"

...Right. Felix didn’t think about it. Eden had also t the witch before, more than once. And he was also a werewolf, with a great sense of sll. Of course he wouldn’t fail to pick up on that...

Still, it was weird that he was asking about it. He had always avoided talking about the witch too much, out of fear of getting cursed. During all of his previous visits to Felix’s house - and there were quite a few of them, now that Felix was a stay-at-ho dad - he had never ntioned anything, even though he must have picked on the jasmine fragrance, considering that Remi was living here, and his scent was everywhere. Even now that he actually brought it up, Eden was clearly feeling uneasy...

Was his love for gossip stronger than the fear he felt toward the witch?

"...Well." Felix paused, thinking about it for a mont. How was he supposed to explain himself? Not that he owed Eden an explanation, but if he ended the conversation like that, it would only fuel the Oga’s imagination. And while he wasn’t spreading Felix’s information anywhere (at least as far as Felix was aware), he still found it hard to trust... anyone, really, but especially a person with such a big mouth.

"We’re... roommates," was what he finally said.

"Roommates," Eden repeated. His eyes wandered toward the bedroom, where the one and only bed in the house was, then to the couch, which was definitely too small for the tall and muscular witch, and then back to the bedroom door (or, well, door fra). "Your bed seems... a bit too small for two people."

That was true. While it wasn’t impossible for two ’people’ in their human forms to fit in there, especially since Felix was about an average height and with a slender figure, it was a bit of a squeeze. Only if they were both in their human forms, that is.

Which they never were, but Felix was reluctant to tell that to Eden. Kade might have figured out that the witch was a fox shifter, but maybe it wasn’t the best idea to let the news spread? Remi was always denying that he as the fox and the witch were the sa person, so perhaps he didn’t want others to know...

So, Felix eventually ca out with another explanation.

"Many problems can be solved with a correct spell," he said calmly. Technically he didn’t even lie... Since he had never said that their bed situation was solved that way!
