Arc 2, Chapter 59 — Friends.

.

.

They did it! They succeeded.

Looking closely, there was sothing squirming in it. And that distraction from before... What was it?

Fufufufufufu~

"Took you guys long enough," Leo chuckled innocently, still laying on his bed lazily. In his hand, was his ga box... still on.

"_"

So all this while when they had been fighting, he had been playing his ga in the dark at peace?

"Now, now, don’t look at like that. I helped you all in the end, didn’t I?"

True.

Levon and Shugo nodded, when recalling the fast bladed card that shot through the heart of the first vampire, before making an arc turn towards the back of the 2nd Ghoul.

Now, the card levitating beside Leo was covered in blood.

It wiggled in the air, shaking the filthy blood away in disgust. Then, it went to the door, closing it fast to stop other ghouls from entering.

’This guy is strong... as expected.’ Levon noted.

Sending his thoughts, Leo shrugged, putting his gaboy away and slowly rising to his feet.

"Truthfully, I might have done poorly compared to you both. That’s why I decided to blend in and beco your shadows."

It worked out, didn’t it?

Levon and Shugo had nothing against Leo.

In fact, they too might have done the sa, if 2 people had also stood up to fight.

2 humans vs 2 Ghouls.

Wasn’t that balanced enough?

What’s more, let’s be honest.

Despite being at a disadvantage, they enjoyed every second of the battle.

Clenching his fist, Levon also felt a subtle change with his shard.

’Could it be that another way to improve is through battle?’

It would make sense, seeing as the Shard is a being that is a weapon.

It was technically born with its only true purpose, being battle.

It could feel its joyful excitent when piercing into the Ghoul’s flesh.

From his understanding, Shards enjoy battles against devilish supernatural foes.

aning one can’t possibly hope to make their shard stronger by massacring humans.

Well it was exciting.

Hehehehehehe~

Everyone laughed in their hearts, recalling the blockbuster fights that took place in this dormitory.

Even Leo felt he learned a thing or 2 more than what was taught by Winhest.

But what about this worm?

"Instructor Winhest didn’t ntion anything ;like this. Since when do worms crawl out of Ghouls?"

"Don’t touch it," Levon advised Shugo, who was already leaning over. "This thing... I suspect, it’s a–"

"Parasite?" Leo concluded.

"Yeah... Maybe it’s a parasitic Ghoul." Levon gave Leo a hard look, nodding deeply. "I think it should be far scarier than the first one that turned to ashes."

Levon rubbed his chin thoughtfully when listening to the duo.

Just now, the worm suddenly showed its enlarged mouth that had countless rows of teeth lined in circular patterns.

"Calling it a parasite makes sense, seeing its features. And if true, there must be a master that created it."

Yes! Levon’s eyes lit up.

If his usual knowledge of parasites serves them right, only when the master/mother is dead, do all worms no matter where they are, also die.

Till then, they must kill them off one by one.

"I’m guessing its master sends out the parasite the sa way all vampires send out their venom."

"That makes sense. I think that after the master bites its victim—unlike other vampires that only send venom to change humans into vampires— this Parasitic Ghoul master can send forth worms to infect its prey."

"Yeah. It should operate the sa way as other vampires do. With the first one, we had to locate its heart to kill and turn it into dust.... But with this one, perhaps its heart is in this little worm squirming about."

"Interesting..."

There was only one way to find out.

A cold light flickered, and the crawling warm was slashed into pieces.

As expected, after the worm died and turned to ashes, the rotting vampiric body behind it also turned to dust.

.

.

(Silence)

Everyone stood still for a few monts, with no one being able to voice the creepiness of the whole thing.

"What a dangerous world we live in, don’t you think?" Leo broke the silence, chuckling softly. "Alright. I like you both, so let re-introduce myself again... Leonel Maxdom. And you’re Shugo, and Levon."

The duo nodded, shaking Leo’s hand firr than the first ti when they officially t.

Levon has also had ti to observe this guy. And so far, he liked his personality. It fitted just right with theirs.

"Your voice is familiar.... too familiar" Leo knotted his brows thoughtfully. "Are you ILoathHe-diots?"

Ah-

Levon was taken aback, not expecting to see a fan here of all places.

Woow!

"I knew it! I knew it!" Leo’s entire deanor changed. "Boss, I’m your number one fan! In fact, it’s because of you that I got into gaming!"

What are the odds?

Levon didn’t know whether to laugh or cry.

He felt it’s been a long ti since soone called him Boss. It almost feels like a century ago.

Crunch, crunch, cunch~

Shugo chewed and giggled, spreading his arms wide. "Group hug!!"

Levon was helpless, yet his smile didn’t fade. As did Leo’s.

"Hey now, Buddy Leo, you’re one of us now. Don’t be shy, group hug! Group hug! My buddy and I do group hugs every day!"

’No we don’t!’ Levon inwardly retorted.

More importantly... they have more pressing matters to take care of.

Levon’s heart suddenly skipped a beat.

How could he forget?

"Co on, we have to check on Artilla."

Right!

The trio rushed out into the hallways, but were taken aback to see swarms of ghouls and Bloodrens battling it out tooth and bone.

"I don’t see Arty!"

"That ans she’s still in her dormitory!

Bang!

Leo actually punched a creature in the face with disgust.

"Dammit, it would be so good if we have so good old rock and roll music right about now. Don’t you think so?"

Rock N’ Roll?

Did this guy think this was so battle montage in a ga or sothing?

Levon and Shugo flashed their pearly molars in amusent.

POW!

The trio moved as one, even more confident than ever.
