"What do you want?"
His expression imdiately put on guard as his eyes glared at with murderous intent.
"Whoah, easy. I an no harm, in fact if you accept this deal, I’ll protect you from that Arkus Maguire."
Nolan still didn’t believe although he lowered down his guard.
"I know you were there when Kaelith Bloodfane was killed during the Spire of the Damned Conquest. I want to put Maguire behind bars for his cris."
Nolan’s gaze narrowed as he laughed sarcastically.
"What makes you think I’d be willing to help you?"
Remillia pulled out a small pouch from her cloak and handed it to Nolan.
"This contains a generous reward for information leading to Maguire’s capture. I’m willing to offer more if you can provide what I need."
Nolan’s eyes flicked to the pouch before returning to Remillia’s face. For a mont, he seed to deliberate before nodding once.
"Very well," he said finally.
"I’ll tell you what I know."
Nolan led Remillia through the winding streets of Khyronia, expertly navigating the crowded alleys and dodging market stalls. They eventually arrived at a small, unassuming tenent building, its walls covered in ivy and vines. Nolan opened the door, revealing a dimly lit interior with a single room. The air was thick with the sll of old books and pipe smoke.
Nolan gestured for Remillia to enter, and she did so, her eyes adjusting to the dim light. The room was cluttered with various trinkets and ntos from Nolan’s past, including old uniforms, dals, and photographs. In the center of the room, a small desk held a single chair, and on the desk lay a small, sleek device.
"This is it," Nolan said, his voice low and serious.
"This is the evidence I’ve been holding onto for so long. A mory card from my mini cara, captured during the Spire of the Damned Conquest."
He handed Remillia a small plastic card, adorned with a tiny USB port.
"I recorded everything on that day," Nolan explained.
"I loved recording our missions, even when I was just a young soldier. I didn’t realize that one of the Chromids had given an illusion until it was too late. The mini cara was still recording, and it captured everything that happened during Kaelith’s death."
Remillia’s eyes widened as she took the mory card, her mind racing with the implications.
"But why didn’t you co forward?" she asked, her voice laced with curiosity.
Nolan’s expression turned bitter.
"Arkus Maguire convinced our supervisor that I was compromised, that I had betrayed our mission. He told him that I was involved in Kaelith’s death, and they used that as an excuse to fire from my job. I was left with nothing."
He paused, his eyes haunted by mories.
"I’ve been carrying this guilt with ever since. If only I had spoken up sooner... if only I had defended Kaelith... But now, I want you to use this evidence to put Arkus behind bars. Make sure he pays for what he did."
Remillia’s gaze locked onto Nolan’s, her determination burning brighter.
"Don’t worry," she said firmly. "I’ll make sure Arkus faces justice. And you... To free you from your guilt."
With that, Remillia took a deep breath and inserted the mory card into her own device, ready to begin her investigation into Arkus Maguire’s cris.
As Remillia watched the video on her device, she was suddenly interrupted by strange noises coming from outside. At first, she thought it might be just the usual commotion of the city, but then she heard the unmistakable sound of multiple pairs of footsteps approaching.
She quickly looked up to see six ard assassins appearing at the door, their faces twisted with malice. It was clear that Arkus Maguire had sent them to eliminate her and anyone who got in their way.
’Sh!t how did he know I was here?’
Without hesitation, Remillia grabbed the evidence and tucked it safely into her pouch.
She turned to Nolan and warned him urgently, "Assassins! We need to get out of here, now!"
Nolan didn’t hesitate, using his knowledge of the building to lead Remillia to the backdoor. He pushed her ahead, shouting, "Go! Go!"
As they made their escape, Remillia could hear the assassins hot on their heels. Nolan drew his sword, ready to defend himself and Remillia against the attackers.
When they burst into the room, the assassins surrounded Nolan, their leader demanding, "Where’s the girl?"
Nolan feigned ignorance, saying, "What girl? You can see that I’m alone here."
The assassins didn’t seem convinced, their leader sneering, "Tell us where she is and we’ll let you live."
Nolan’s eyes flashed with defiance.
"Am I that stupid to you? You’ll just kill after I tell you sothing as pointless as that?"
With that, he charged at the assassins with his sword.
Though he was outnumbered and outmatched, he refused to back down. The assassins were relentless, their attacks brutal and rciless.
Just when it seed like Nolan was about to fall, a dagger ca flying straight towards them as Remillia burst back into the room, her own dagger drawn. The assassins froze, caught off guard by her sudden appearance.
Nolan’s eyes locked onto Remillia’s face. "Why did you co back?" he asked hoarsely.
Remillia’s expression was grim.
"I hate owing anyone a favor."
After the assassins looked at her weapon, they just mockingly laughed at her.
"What’s a dagger gonna do with that to us huh?"
"Just surrender kid."
"Our boss wants to see you alive."
"Lucky b!tch."
"Tell your boss that he can f*ck himself..."
The leader angrily shouted at her, "why you little b!t-!"
Shuuk!
The leader fell down as a dagger was stuck deep in his forehead.
"You gave no choice."
"Sh!t just kill her! We’ll think of a way to explain it later to our boss!"
Without hesitation, she charged at the assassins, her dagger flashing in the dim light.
Shuk!
Shuk!
Shuk!
’What? Is it over already? I was just having a warm up, I didn’t even sweat.’
The fight was over in re monts although she was a little bit disappointed.
’My attacks weren’t that hard so how did they die easily?’
Nolan turned to Remillia with a mixture of gratitude and awe.
"Are you also an assassin?" he said quietly.
"I’m just a student."
Nolan didn’t believe her although he didn’t question anymore.
’How can a re student fight like that? She wasn’t even scared when she killed them. It’s almost like she’s a veteran in this field.’
"Let’s just get out of here before more of Arkus’s assassins show up."
Remillia remained in the room.
"Sir Nolan, you can leave first. I’m gonna check if they have anything."
"Okay."
After sensing that Nolan’s gone, she always wanted to try her new ability, ’Puppetry’.
She made a pose with one hand in the air while wearing a straight face.
"Arise!"
1...4...9... Seconds.
After 10 seconds nothing happened.
[HAHAHA! That’s so cringe!!!]
Remillia feeling embarrassed, punched the system screen but her fist only passed through.
"Argh! Stop it!"
[Can you do it one more? Hahaha!]
"Instead of laughing why can’t you just help here?!"
[I want you to figure it out yourself.]
"You just want to make fun of am I right?"
[Hehehe.]
"Stand?"
...
"Up?"
...
"Live?"
Still no signs of dead bodies being alive. Feeling frustrated, I spouted nonsense at the system.
"Why is it so complicated? Can’t they just awaken after being killed? What kind of useless.."
She didn’t notice that one by one the assassins stood up and kneeled before her at the sa ti.
"Greetings, our lord!"
She shouted when soone spoke behind her back.
"Oh? What word did I use again?"
She was questioning the system but instead one of the dead spoke to her.
"I believe it was ’awaken’ master."
’System did you see that? They’re more obedient than you.’
[....]
"Oh, good. Then how about the opposite of it?"
"Just say ’rest’ master."
"Rest."
Soon enough the living dead beca dead again.
"Awaken."
The dead rose up again.
"Line up and go inside this pouch."
"Yes master."
One by one they all fell into the pouch. After that, she scanned all her surroundings checking to see if there are no clues left.
’Alright, I’m done here.’
With that, they fled into the night and went to Monfort to find Nolan a place to stay.
Remillia and Nolan made their way to Monfort city. She can only bite her lower lip as she pulled out her debit card and swiped it through the card reader, securing a 5-star hotel room for Nolan.
’My hard earned money! This better be worth it!’
As they entered the opulent suite, She imdiately ordered Nolan.
"Alright, mister," she said firmly, "I think it’s ti you bathed. You sll like a dumpster fire."
Nolan looked down at himself, his expression sheepish.
"Ah, yeah... I forgot about that."
Remillia gestured to the bathroom.
"In there. Now."
