The morning sun filtered softly through the window as I stretched, feeling the stiffness of yesterday’s exertion lt away. I got out of bed and began my morning exercises and just as I settled into a rhythm, my smart watch beeped insistently.

I glanced at the screen, heart skipping a beat. It was a ssage from Cypher.

{Hey, Remi! Good morning! I just wanted to check if you’re feeling fine,} the ssage read.

It was a little strange for Cypher to reach out so early, especially without any apparent reason. I hesitated for a mont, then quickly typed my reply.

"Morning! I’m already fine now, thanks for asking," I hit send and continued my exercise as I waited for his response.

A few minutes later, my screen lit up again with Cypher’s ssage.

{Ah, that’s great to hear! I’m glad you’re feeling better. I was thinking about eting up with you later today, I need to tell you sothing.}

I raised an eyebrow, feeling a mix of curiosity and wariness. ’Now he’s getting weirder,’ I thought, frowning slightly.

Suddenly, the system chid in unexpectedly.

[Who knows, maybe he’s taken a liking to you,] it suggested with a hint of mischief.

I rolled my eyes internally. ’Not gonna happen,’ I responded.

I quickly typed out, "Sounds like a plan! I’d love to et up with you but I’ll be busy for today. Can’t you just write it on the text?"

My mind raced—what exactly does he need to tell ?

[Oh co on, don’t overthink things. Maybe he wants to date you,] the system prodded with a teasing tone.

I scoffed inwardly. ’I’m just an extra,’ I thought, dismissing the idea.

[Correction, your title changed from extra to being a side character,] the system quipped.

I smirked internally. ’Still an extra,’ I thought, shrugging off the notion.

As my internal debate with the system continued—each of us throwing sarcastic remarks— suddenly a new ssage from Cypher popped from my phone.

{No, I need to tell you sothing in person. When will you be available anyway?} he texted.

I hesitated for a mont, considering my schedule. Then I responded, "Let’s just et this Friday."

A quick reply appeared on my screen. {Okay,} Cypher replied succinctly.

With that settled, I pushed myself through the last few burpees, feeling the burn in my muscles. Once finished, I headed straight for the shower, the cold water washing away my fatigue and sweat.

Domain Anomaly Analysis

Professor Orion, a renowned expert in the field of beasts and monsters, stood at the front of the lecture hall, his gaze sweeping across the room filled with students. "Alright, everyone," he began, voice steady but commanding. "Can anyone tell how to locate and defeat the elusive ’Glimrwraith’? This creature can manipulate light and darkness, making it nearly impossible to track. Who has insights on overcoming this challenge?"

The students looked at each other nervously. Knowing their professor’s habit, he would always choose those students who didn’t raise their hand, not because they were the most knowledgeable, but because they were usually the ones who didn’t actively participate in class.

One by one, hands went up—so with tentative theories, others with wild guesses. But none hit the mark. Orion listened attentively, his face expressionless, letting the silence stretch.

Just as he was about to wrap up the lesson, his eyes settled on a student sitting in the back corner—her head tilted back, mouth open, snoring loudly. The class stifled giggles as she remained oblivious to their snickers. She wasn’t paying attention at all. Orion’s gaze sharpened, reading her naplate: "Remillia Lockhart."

Professor Orion’s curiosity got the better of him. He moved gracefully through the aisle, approaching Remillia’s desk with a calm but inquisitive deanor. Standing beside her, he tapped her shoulder. "Lockhart, can you answer my question?"

Remillia blinked lazily, stretching her arms with a yawn. "Oh, um... yeah. The Glimrwraith’s weak spot is its core, which is surrounded by a field of protective light. You can disrupt this field by using a spell that manipulates shadows and light mana. Specifically, the ’Umbrakinetic Shift’ spell should do the trick."

Orion’s eyes widened in surprise. His brow raised as he looked down at her, astonished. "How did you—?"

He trailed off, visibly stunned by her flawless, precise answer. For a mont, the room was silent, the students exchanging surprised glances.

He looked at her naplate again, his brow furrowing as fragnts of mory clicked into place. Ah, yes—Remillia Lockhart. The sa student who had recently scored a perfect 100 on the Domain Anomaly Analysis test.

Orion nodded thoughtfully. "Remillia, your answer is... correct," he said carefully, still trying to absorb how she, who had been dozing off monts ago, had delivered such a precise and insightful response.

The room fell into a hush, and even the other students looked on in surprise. Orion’s reputation as a strict, discerning professor was well-known, and this unexpected display of talent from the back corner of the room was turning heads.

The classroom buzzed with excitent and whispers as students exchanged their thoughts.

"Wow... she got the answer correct?" one student murmured, eyes wide with astonishnt.

"Did you also know that she and Cypher defeated the Crimson Scourge alone?" another added, voice tinged with admiration.

"Amazing, right? I thought she was just a nobody, but it seems she’s more talented than any of us," a third student said, eyes gleaming with newfound respect.

"We didn’t even discuss that kind of monster in class," soone else noted, awe evident in their tone.

"Maybe she’s a genius..." a final voice trailed off, filled with wonder.

anwhile, Ezekiel Craine, the forr top-ranked student, sat silently but intensely, his gaze fixed sharply on Remillia. There was a burning fire in his eyes—an uneasy mix of curiosity and envy. His grip tightened around a pen, which suddenly snapped into two with a sharp crack. He stared at the broken pieces, then back at her, a flicker of disbelief crossing his face.

’Impossible... How did she even know the answer to that?’ he thought, his mind racing. This was the second ti he’d felt this unnerving sense of nervousness. A dangerous curiosity flared within him. ’I must know her study technique,’ Ezekiel resolved silently, determination flashing in his eyes.

Professor Orion coughed, clearing his throat to regain attention. "I must admit, I’m surprised. You didn’t seem to be paying attention during class."

Remillia shrugged lazily, a faint smile on her lips. "Sorry for dozing off, but I already know what you’re teaching us," she replied casually.

The professor raised an eyebrow, intrigued. "You already knew?"

Remillia simply nodded, then yawned again, her posture relaxed and unbothered.

Orion’s eyes narrowed slightly, a flicker of calculation crossing his face. ’I need to hire her,’ he thought silently. ’There’s sothing extraordinary about her. Lockhart, I think we need to have a chat after class. I’d like to understand how you managed to answer my question so accurately.’

Remillia only nodded in response. "Sure thing, Professor," she said with a faint smile, then leaned back, dozing off once more as the class continued around her.

The corridor echoed loudly with students chattering as I made my way to Professor Orion’s office, the weight of my thoughts jumbling in my mind. Why did I have to doze off earlier? Shit, my head feels foggy whenever my sleep gets interrupted. Damn it, I need to stay sharp.

’He must need for sothing,’ I thought, quickening my pace. ’I don’t have much ti left today—I still have to go hunt monsters this afternoon.’

My steps slowed as I suddenly rembered his na again. Orion Astrum.

’Orion Astrum,’ the na rolled through my mind like a familiar tune, yet carried a weight of significance. He’s the leader of Orion’s Index — an organization renowned worldwide. They’re practically the best at studying and cataloging new, unidentified monsters, beasts, and plants that suddenly appear around the globe. Not only that, but they’re the largest corporation selling information on these creatures, a powerhouse in the world of monster research and intelligence.

’So why is he here as a Professor?’ I thought as I stepped into Orion’s office, my eyes scanning the room. Professor Orion looked up from his desk.

"Ah, Remillia Lockhart. Please, have a seat," he said, his voice smooth and asured.

I hesitated for a mont, then sat down, trying to keep my expression neutral despite the knot tightening in my stomach.

Orion leaned back in his chair, steepling his fingers as he studied . "You’re very popular since the day you entered the Academy," he remarked with quiet admiration. "Especially recently. I heard that you defeated the Crimson Scourge — an Elite-ranked monster. It takes at least ten advanced-rank heroes to take down that monster."

A bead of sweat trickled down my temple as I sat there, feeling the heat rise in my cheeks. I couldn’t exactly tell him the truth. Instead, I forced a casual tone. "Surely, I’m not the only one who killed that dragon. Cypher was also there with ."

Orion’s piercing gaze sharpened. "Tell , how did you know where its weak spot was?"

I hesitated, then shrugged. "We just got lucky," I mumbled, hoping to brush it off.

He studied for a mont, his expression unreadable, doubt flickering in his eyes. But after a tense pause, he nodded slowly, apparently deciding not to press further. "I see. Well, I think it’s ti we had a little chat about your future plans. You see, Remillia, you have a unique skill set that could be very valuable to my organization."

I feigned surprise, raising an eyebrow. "Organization?"

A subtle smile played on Orion’s lips as he leaned forward slightly. "Ah, I apologize for the late introduction. I am Orion Astrum, the president of Orion’s Index."

I narrowed my eyes, trying to gauge Orion’s reaction. "Then why are you here, working as a professor?" I asked, my voice steady despite the nervous flutter in my chest.

Orion leaned back slightly, a faint smile on his face. "I am busy scouting for outstanding students—those who could be beneficial to my organization. But all I’ve seen here are ordinary students. I was about to give up on being a professor at this Academy... until you stood out—brighter than the others."

My stomach sank. I ssed up. This wasn’t what I wanted—becoming a pawn in so corporate ga. I just wanted a peaceful life, to live free from worries and to earn enough from my investnts. Now it felt like that dream was slipping away.

I clenched my fists subtly. "I’m not interested," I said bluntly, trying to hide my rising anxiety. Then I added, "Also, isn’t it against the rules for recruiters or leaders from different organizations to recruit students who are still studying here?"

Professor Orion’s expression shifted suddenly, the seriousness in his eyes deepening. His voice beca steadier, more commanding. "Not if you have connections. You see, I can get anything I want from those guilds, since my organization is the best when it cos to acquiring and selling information. They couldn’t afford to offend ."

I stiffened, feeling the weight of his words. I shook my head firmly. "Still, I reject your proposal."

Orion’s gaze lingered on , a faint trace of a smile curling at the corner of his mouth. "You don’t understand. You see, you have a certain... potential that could be leveraged for the greater good of our society," he said, voice smooth but with an underlying intensity. "You’re not just any student. With the right guidance, you could beco a catalyst for change—soone who can shape the future."

"Greater good of our society, my ass," I thought bitterly. He just wants to help him expand his organization—nothing more than a pawn in his sches. A cold dread crept up my spine, making my skin crawl. I clenched my fists, trying to keep my composure.

"I’m sorry, Professor, but I won’t work for your organization," I said firmly. "You see, I’m still a student and—"

Professor Orion’s eyes narrowed, and he slid a single piece of paper across the table toward . "You haven’t heard my proposal. Or better yet, you can just read this contract—uh, I an, the proposal."

I hesitated, my skepticism flickering. Despite my doubts, I reached out and grabbed the docunt. My eyes scanned the contents, and at first, I tried to stay objective. But then, my jaw dropped on the floor, and my eyes widened into what could only be described as cash signs.

As I read through the proposal, I couldn’t help but start to drool—these perks were just too enticing. The benefits listed were beyond anything I’d ever imagined. It was almost overwhelming, and a part of was seriously considering it.

"Miss Lockhart," Orion said softly, a sly smile curling on his lips. "You don’t want to lose this opportunity, do you? Just look at those perks waiting for you. Just sign here, and they’ll be yours forever."

A shimring quill appeared in his hand, floating effortlessly above the paper. Orion’s voice was smooth, persuasive.

’Yes... forever, hehehe,’ I thought, my mind starting to spin. The perks were dizzying, and I felt my resolve weakening.

But then, reality hit like a cold splash of water. Forever? Working until I die? Hell no! I shook my head fiercely, snapping out of the daze. I imdiately slapped my cheeks hard, trying to clear the fog. My dreams, my future—none of that was worth signing away forever for a handful of perks.

Professor Orion’s expression flickered with a hint of disappointnt, but beneath that, I could sense a flicker of frustration. Darn it! I was so close—so close to succumbing to his honey-coated words. He thought I was just another easy target, but I could see through his veneer. She’s a more formidable opponent than the others! I must have her as my corporate slave—hahaha!

As I struggled to gather my scattered thoughts, Orion pressed on, his voice still smooth and persuasive. "Miss Lockhart, you’re really missing out. Your monthly salary would be 500,000 Glacium. Not only that, but you get a bonus of 10% for every new species you identify."

My eyes bulged again, and I felt my hand inching toward the quill, almost ready to sign. His words are too venomous!

anwhile, Professor Orion continued his honeyed words, a sly smile playing on his lips as he internally chuckled at Remillia’s stubborn defiance. ’No one ever refused my offer, not even you, hahaha! Sign it now!’ he thought, confident that his charm and promises would eventually break her resolve.

But I was determined not to let him succeed. Just as my frustration reached its peak and I teetered on the verge of losing my dreams of a stress-free life, I instinctively called out to the system. Open system shop now!

I imdiately scrolled and clicked on a pair of earplugs. It was a mana-infused plug so once I put it on. I can’t hear what the professor is saying anymore. ’Happy thoughts, happy thoughts.’ I slowly cald down as I watched Professor Orion spout mutely.

Without wasting a second, I scrolled through the options and quickly clicked on a pair of earplugs—mana-infused earplugs designed to block out magical audial illusions. As I carefully inserted them, I instantly felt a calming wave wash over . The muffling effect made Professor Orion’s words fade into silence. I repeated softly to myself, Happy thoughts, happy thoughts, as I centered myself and regained composure. Watching him spout empty air, I felt a renewed sense of control.

Soon, Professor Orion’s expression twisted into confusion and frustration as he realized sothing was wrong. Why isn’t it working?! he thought, eyes narrowing. She should have signed the paper by now. Why?! His confidence faltered as he stared at the silent, unmoving figure before him, the earplugs clearly blocking his influence.

"I’m sorry. It’s too much work," I finally said when I noticed him stopped talking.

The professor’s mouth opened slightly, caught off guard. His eyes flickering with a mix of annoyance and grudging respect as he looked at her. This isn’t over, he thought, a subtle threat lingering in his gaze.

He straightened up and offered a slick smile, reaching into his coat pocket to produce a business card. "Here’s my card. If ever you change your mind, co visit my company. Just say your na, and you’ll be imdiately assisted by the guards who will lead you to my office," he said smoothly, his tone oozing confidence once more.

I was about to reach for the card, but then I hesitated, stopping midway. "There’s no need for that," I said softly, my voice steady and confident.

I had dodged the bullet—for now.
