I stop turning the garapon lottery for a mont, drawn in by the sudden and intriguing topic of a video ga tournant, and focus on Alice’s explanation.
"Now then, let's keep things simple…… First of all, I imagine many of you might be wondering "What is a video ga?". To put it simply, it’s a type of entertainnt from Kaito-san’s world…… the world created by Makina. Let's explain while watching it in action…… Here it is."
As Alice says this, a large monitor appears behind the comntary table, displaying the screen of an extrely famous four-player competitive ga.
"To explain very simply, you use this controller to operate a character on the screen. To make it easier to understand, you can think of it like controlling puppets using magic tools to battle each other. Up to 4 people can play at once, and since we have people who can create anything just lying around with nothing to do, we had them make a bunch of these ga consoles. Especially that idiot who was busy making so kind of cursed museum or whatever…… Anyway, since multiple matches can be held at the sa ti in groups of 4, the pacing of corresponding matches should be good."
"……Shall-tan, aren't you being pretty harsh on Earth God-sama?"
"You can just handle that guy roughly. If you spoil her, she imdiately gets carried away and starts running wild… I an, she actually went ahead and made that weird building again, didn’t she?"
"U- Umm, I’d appreciate it if you didn’t bring up topics that are hard for to respond to…… I an, it’s fine since Earth God-sama is super indulgent with Shall-tan, but I can’t just say whatever I want about her."
Alice’s treatnt of Makina is indeed rather casual, but that’s because they’re close friends who know each other well.
Actually, as Fate-san pointed out, Makina is absurdly indulgent when it cos to Alice…… Like, to an almost ridiculous degree. She probably got talked into mass-producing these ga consoles without much resistance.
"……But Shall-tan, even if we’re competing through Otherworld entertainnt, wouldn’t there be a huge difference between Peerage Holders and regular people? Wouldn't it end up being one-sided?"
"Oh! As expected of Fate-san, that’s a great question. If it were a direct physical fight, then yes, it would be completely unbalanced. However, in video gas, things are different. As I ntioned, this is a form of entertainnt from Kaito-san’s world. In other words, it was designed with humans as the standard…… more specifically, it’s based on the reaction speed of humans who don’t have any magic-enhanced physical abilities. The stronger you are, the slower things will feel to you."
"Oh yeah, that’s right. Kai-chan’s world doesn’t have magic, does it?"
"Exactly. Well then, let’s have Fate-san try it out. The controls are really simple, so……"
As expected, Alice and Fate-san continue their lively exchange while smoothly explaining things, and Fate-san agrees to do a test play.
This ga is very well known, and I’ve played it before with Aoi-chan and Hina-chan, as well as with a few other acquaintances. Just like Alice said, I rember that everyone struggled a lot with the reaction speed.
"……Eh? Why? I blocked that, didn’t I!?"
"You pressed the button too early, so by the ti the opponent actually attacked, your guard had already dropped. Timing is everything."
"Timing huh. So I just need to match the opponent’s attack properly…… Ehhh!? Why did that hit !?"
"Fate-san, you might feel like your timing was perfect, but it was actually too perfect. You didn’t account for the slight delay between pressing the button and your character executing the action. By the way, this ga console has an input delay of roughly 1/300,000th of the speed of light."
"That’s slow!"
"For normal humans, that’s actually way too fast…… Anyway, you have to account for that kind of delay to control the ga properly. Also, button mashing won’t register if it exceeds a certain speed. Even if you understand it logically, your instincts might still react differently, so fully adapting to it within the tournant tifra will be difficult…… well, if you exclude a certain bug, that is……"
I see. Listening to Alice’s explanation, it really does seem like even the Six Kings and regular people could have a fair match in this ga. Also, when she ntioned "bug", she was probably referring to Lilia-san. I’ve actually played this ga with Lilia-san before. At first, she was confused for a few rounds…… but after that, she started performing fra-perfect inputs like it was nothing and beca pretty strong.
However, either due to bad luck or so unknown force at work, she kept getting hit or caught up in the random stage hazards and interference items. Because of that, her overall performance was about the sa as mine, Aoi-chan’s, and Hina-chan’s.
The best player among the ones I’ve played with…… is Al-san. She was imdiately fascinated by the idea of Otherworld gas, and her eyes sparkled whenever she saw special moves and flashy attacks. More than anything though, she really seed to enjoy playing together with friends. I rember playing with her quite a lot…… so in terms of experience, she’s probably among the top players in this entire venue.
That said, since she loves pulling off stylish combo sequences and going for dramatic finisher moves, she often leaves herself open. So while she’s strong, she’s not unbeatable, aning the matches will probably end up being pretty well-balanced in the end.
