Olivia felt her own growing tension as they were guided to their seats at the restaurant.
(I knew this would happen, but I’m still so inexperienced. I can’t keep my composure as well as I would like.)
This restaurant was one that Olivia had chosen and reserved. Due to her position, it was difficult for her to visit the place in advance, but she gathered information from various magazines and other sources, carefully selecting a restaurant from multiple options.
Olivia understood that Kaito simply wasn't fond of luxury restaurants, so she tried to choose a place based on information she had gathered, including from Kaori, aiming to select a place that Kaito might enjoy.
(I am confident. The only regret I have is not being able to visit the restaurant beforehand, but I gathered as much information as possible, and I even researched the dishes they serve and tried to make similar ones myself to taste. I’ve also confird that there are no dishes containing ingredients that Miyama Kaito-sama dislikes.)
As a side note, Kaito had told Olivia and Kaori that he disliked bell peppers. He felt embarrassed about this dislike and wasn’t eager to share it with others, but when Olivia inford him that she would be making the restaurant reservation, he ntioned it.
The reason was simple———– if Olivia unknowingly chose a dish with bell peppers and Kaito, who is quick to show his discomfort, made a displeased expression, Olivia would likely feel a trendous amount of responsibility. To avoid that, he told her in advance that he disliked bell peppers, considering that his own embarrassnt was a minor issue in comparison.
The seat she was shown to was likely the best in the restaurant…… a spot near the window on the second floor with a beautiful view of the red brick townscape. Olivia’s tension was evident on her face as she sat down.
The dishes had already been reserved in advance, so the server only ca to take drink orders. During this ti, Kaito handed over a card from Eris and ordered their special juice.

Kaito smiled gently to ease Olivia’s nervousness, and Olivia responded, still sowhat tense. When Kaori ntioned how much Olivia had worked hard to research, Kaito gave a kind smile and then gently reached out to lightly pat Olivia’s head.

Kaito hadn’t done this intentionally. His action was a result of trying to ease Olivia’s clear tension. The distance was such that his hand naturally reached her head, and after interacting with her until now, he couldn't help thinking of Olivia as soone like a puppy, so he ended up unconsciously patting her head to show appreciation for all her hard work.

Naturally, Olivia had never been patted on the head before. The shock of being patted by Kaito, whom she could truly say she deeply respected, was overwhelming. It felt incredibly pleasant and happy deep down…… but the intensity of the happiness was so great that her mind was in complete chaos.

As a result, Olivia was more flustered than ever before, but in a way, it may have been effective in resetting her overly tense thoughts.
Having now experienced the comfort of being patted on the head by Kaito, she might find herself expecting it in the future, which could make her heart waver, but for now, it was a good trigger to help her regain her composure.
After a while, as the confusion in her thoughts began to subside, she found that her mind beca a little more stable and clear than before.
(……It’s alright. I’ve read all the reference materials, and even while being distracted by worldly thoughts, I’ve ntally rehearsed what might happen. I’m sure I can complete the dinner part of the date smoothly.)
There was, however, one big misunderstanding. Olivia had indeed been extrely nervous since arriving at the restaurant, and Kaito had mistakenly assud that her nervousness was due to worrying about whether the food would suit his taste.
But that assumption was wrong. While Olivia certainly had so anxiety about whether the food would suit Kaito, she had spent enough ti with him by now and exchanged letters up to the day of the date to understand his preferences. She was fairly confident in her choice.
Additionally, based on Kaito’s personality, she understood that even if the food didn’t suit him, he wouldn’t want to punish her. If it ca to that, Olivia would privately reflect on it and make sure she didn’t repeat the mistake…… but her current nervousness was coming from sowhere else entirely.
The key point here was that Olivia had consulted romance novels and magazines while preparing for the date.
Yes, the reason Olivia was so intensely nervous…… was that she had planned to create a situation where she would feed Kaito during the date…… However, as of now, Kaito had no idea that Olivia had such a thought in mind.
