As she walked downstairs, she tilted her head in thought. Could it be that life was almost taken, life was almost taken... couldn’t be... the incident in the elevator last ti... was it ... was it a preditated murder?

She had minimal interaction with him, but wherever he was present, Zhang Te was always by his side. Yet that night, when she encountered him in the hallway, he was alone.

The company’s elevator was serviced every month, mostly in the mornings at the end of each month. However, that day it was at night.... Even more coincidental was the fact that she had been working overti many tis since she joined the Han Family’s company a year ago, but there had never been a power outage, yet strangely, there was a power outage that night...

With these thoughts dashing across Xia Wan’an’s mind, she tremulously stopped in her tracks, frozen on the staircase steps.

All these factors, aren’t they too coincidental? What’s the phrase? There’s a devil where things defy logic.

Considering all the events of that day, there were too many anomalies. For example, why had the elevator’s maintenance schedule changed, and why was there a power outage that night? None of these oddities alone ant much, but in the context of Han Jingnian’s situation, they were deadly. If it wasn’t for her grandmother telling her tonight about his fear of the dark, she would never have thought that previous silent night was an assassination...

No wonder her grandmother’s face changed dramatically when she was discussing the events of that night.

Perhaps, in that mont, her grandmother had co to the realization that it wasn’t a coincidence but a deliberate accident.

So, that ans... her grandmother wasn’t trying to scare her earlier. Her grandmother was serious. If it wasn’t for her running into him that night, would he have... died?

"What’s the matter?."

A plain and gentle voice made its way into Xia Wan’an’s ears.

Xia Wan’an was startled and ca back to reality, only to see Han Jingnian standing in front of her, having appeared out of nowhere.

"Are.. Are you not feeling well?" Han Jingnian spoke again, his tone still light and pleasant.

Xia Wan’an shook her head, "I’m..."

She spoke only a single word before stopping as her voice was shaking heavily.

After taking a deep breath, she composed herself and glanced at the mirror beside her.

No wonder Han Jingnian asked if she was feeling unwell, she was so pale it was frightening, and her forehead was even covered in a thin layer of sweat.

She stood still, realizing that she had been frightened by the thoughts that had just flashed through her mind. She waited until her emotions had cald down, before looking up again to find Han Jingnian still standing in front of her, staring at her intently.

She was taken aback for a mont, then asked, "Do you... need sothing else?"

Han Jingnian stared at her for a while longer, ensuring she was alright, before slightly moving his lips to utter, "No."

Xia Wan’an replied with an "Oh," not saying anything further.

She thought Han Jingnian wouldn’t say anything more, but unexpectedly, he broke the silence again: "Heading ho?"

Xia Wan’an was surprised again. She examined Han Jingnian for a few seconds before confirming that he was asking her, then finally replied, "Yes."

"Let’s go then." Han Jingnian said, and turned around to walk downstairs.

Was he... indicating that he would accompany her ho? He had never done that before.

Despite her uncertainty, Xia Wan’an stood still in her place until Han Jingnian pressed the elevator button and looked back at her. Only then did she step forward to follow him.
