The real reason she left was to make his life better, but had his life really beco better?
Xia Wan’an was unsure whether her tears were due to being scared or inadvertently seeing the contents of Han Jingnian’s phone. Perhaps it was a combination of both reasons. In any case, her tears flowed uncontrollably like a breached river.
Xia Wan’an didn’t know how long she had cried, seemingly oblivious to everyone around. She only knew that when she finally managed to stop her tears, her phone had been vibrating for quite a while.
There were several missed calls, all from Lin Chen.
Xia Wan’an hastily wiped the tears from her face and pressed the answer button.
Lin Chen, "Little president, it’s so late, why haven’t you returned to the hotel?"
Xia Wan’an didn’t follow up on Lin Chen’s words and instead asked directly, "Is there sothing wrong?"
"Of course, there is sothing, little president. I’m looking for you to help remove my makeup. I am currently wearing a full fringe and a pink princess dress, how can I go ho like this!" Lin Chen’s voice ca over the phone as he rattled on for a while, it then dawned on him that the tone of Xia Wan’an’s voice was a bit off. He quickly quieted down. After a few seconds, he spoke again, "Little president, your tone seed a bit off just now, did you... cry?"
"No."
Even though Xia Wan’an’s reply was terse, Lin Chen still picked up on so subtleties in her tone, "Little president, are you feeling upset because you have to leave early tomorrow? Where are you? Do you want to co find you..."
Xia Wan’an cut off Lin Chen, "No need, Lin Chen, I’m fine..."
"Well, alright then, little president, just be careful on your own..." Lin Chen paused, then added, "Also, little president, I’ll co to pick you up at eight o’clock tomorrow morning to go to the airport..."
Hearing this, Xia Wan’an turned her head and glanced at the ergency room. She stared at the words "In Surgery..." for a mont, then pursed her lips. Just before Lin Chen was about to hang up, she stopped him, "Lin Chen..."
Lin Chen had perhaps moved the phone away from his ear and, hearing her voice, he brought it back again, causing his voice to increase in volu, "What is it, little president?"
"That, you don’t need to pick up tomorrow morning..."
He Che, standing by the window and staring out into the night, felt his fingers tremble sharply upon hearing this. He then turned to look at Xia Wan’an.
Did her words an... she wasn’t leaving? Was she deciding to stay for that man?
"Um... It’s not that I’m going to the airport by myself, it’s that I might stay for a while longer..." Xia Wan’an, unaware of He Che’s gaze, continued speaking quietly on the phone with Lin Chen.
Before long, Xia Wan’an said goodbye to Lin Chen and then made a call to Zhang Te, informing him about Han Jingnian’s situation.
The mont Xia Wan’an put away her phone, He Che covertly withdrew his gaze.
He continued, as before, to look composedly out the window for a mont before turning and heading to the restroom.
It was a while before He Che returned. His expression was calm, neither sad nor happy, but Chen Cang keenly detected a faint sll of tobacco emanating from him.
Not long after Zhang Te received the call, he rushed to the hospital and Xie Lin ca along with him.
