Just a second after Xia Wan’an closed the door, she heard the sound of a passcode being entered on the door behind her.

Instinctively, Xia Wan’an turned around to see Han Jingnian, dressed in a suit and leather shoes, walking in the door.

Han Jingnian probably didn’t anticipate seeing her right as he entered, and so he froze montarily at the door.

Neither of them spoke, creating a tense silence by the entrance hall.

Ordinarily, Xia Wan’an would take the initiative to greet Han Jingnian, even though he often either ignored her, or responded indifferently. Today however, Xia Wan’an’s negative emotions were overwhelming. Thinking that he wouldn’t bother to return her words anyway, she resolutely retracted her gaze and walked to the cupboard for slippers.

Once she had changed her shoes, she stood up, acting as if oblivious of his presence and walked towards the bedroom.

"Wait a mont."

To Xia Wan’an’s surprise, Han Jingnian, behind her, took the initiative to speak.

Despite her astonishnt, Xia Wan’an stopped, but didn’t turn around to look at him.

Han Jingnian stepped forward until he was in front of her. "Here."

Xia Wan’an looked sideways to see her own cellphone which she had left in his office’s lounge area.

With an acknowledgnt of "Oh", she accepted the phone, and seeing that he didn’t say anymore, she continued on her way to her room.

Having not showered the previous night, the first thing she did, after charging her phone in her bedroom, was to take a bath. When she ca out of the shower she saw that Han Jingnian had also, at so point, taken a bath next door and changed into lounge clothes.

It was only just past noon... was he planning on staying ho and not going out?

Xia Wan’an was puzzled, but nonetheless maintained her resolve to ignore him, as though he wasn’t there, and went to her bed to pick up her phone.

Since she had switched off her phone in the middle of the night, there were many unread ssages on WeChat.

As she processed the ssages one by one, she ca across a ssage sent by Song Youman in the morning: "An’an, it’s the weekend, want to go shopping in the afternoon? So many salespeople from SKP texted saying that many new styles arrived this week."

In the two years she had been married to Han Jingnian, she had longed countless tis for him to be ho. Today was the first day he was ho during the dayti. Yet, she didn’t want to be with him.

Because seeing him reminded her of what she heard in the office...

Xia Wan’an hesitated for two seconds, then replied to Song Youman, "Sure, let’s et at SKP later."

After receiving the "OK" ssage from Song Youman, Xia Wan’an quickly went to the wardrobe to change into her outing clothes.

As Xia Wan’an was about to leave the house, Han Jingnian asked, "Are you going out?"

Xia Wan’an, paused whilst she changed her shoes, and simply grunted, "Mmph".

He seed more talkative than usual today... she thought, and then added, "I have plans with a friend."

Han Jingnian rely responded with an "Oh", and said nothing more.

After changing her shoes, Xia Wan’an pushed open the door and left.

By late afternoon, Xia Wan’an and Song Youman began discussing where to have dinner.

Once they had decided, they didn’t forget to call Han Zhijin to pay the bill.

.....

Han Zhijin, clueless about his role as the bill payer, was actually quite happy when he picked up Xia Wan’an’s call: "Auntie, what can I do for you?"

"Have dinner? Now? Sure..."

As Han Zhijin was about to hang up, he rembered his uncle, Han Jingnian, who had just arrived. He then added: "Er... Auntie, Uncle just arrived. Grandma and my mom are not ho. Should I ask Uncle if he wants to join us for dinner? Oh, not necessary, okay then, you guys wait for . I’ll be there soon."

After hanging up the call, Han Zhijin dashed to the dressing room to change his clothes. He was completely oblivious to Han Jingnian, standing at his bedroom doorway.
