The eting place was still the suite where Han Jingnian often stayed.
Zhang Te’s assistant had a room card, and without knocking, directly led Xia Wan’an in: "Mr. Han, isn’t your wife ultra-beautiful?!"
Why on earth does Zhang Te’s assistant utter so much nonsense?!
Xia Wan’an muttered under her breath, then instinctively raised her head to look inside the room.
Han Jingnian wasn’t at his desk anymore, rather he was sitting on the couch reviewing so files. He seed to have specifically grood himself; the tailored suit and white shirt made him look imposingly elegant.
Hearing the commotion of Zhang Te’s assistant, he looked towards the door. Upon his gaze eting Xia Wan’an, there was a montary pause, his eyes seed to shimr.
Xia Wan’an wasn’t sure if it was just her imagination. By the ti she regained her senses and looked back at him, he had already shifted his gaze away. He shot Zhang Te’s assistant a sidelong glance, as if finding his question to be boring, and then lowered his head to continue reading the docunt in his hand.
Zhang Te’s assistant shut up, not daring to say any more. He just left a quick comnt that he would call them when it was ti, and then he slipped away.
Xia Wan’an stood at the entrance of the room. Seeing no reaction from Han Jingnian, as if she were invisible to him, she walked inside and found a spot farthest from him to sit down.
The room was very quiet, and the couch beneath her was quite comfortable. This sort of atmosphere was perfect for sleeping. Xia Wan’an grabbed a fluffy pillow and closed her eyes.
Han Jingnian, having finished reading the docunts, raised his hand to rub his neck and inadvertently glanced at the girl nestled on the small couch not far away.
His hand movents suddenly stopped. It took a mont for him to cast his gaze on her face.
Was she asleep?
Just like last night in the car...she had fallen asleep in the blink of an eye...
But she was really quite delicate, her skin was pale, her nose raised, her mouth small, and eyebrows curved. The off-shoulder dress she wore revealed two prominent collarbones which were beautifully shaped and alluringly delicate.
Whether it was because she was uneasy sleeping on the sofa, she suddenly stirred a little.
Han Jingnian forced his mind back to reality, retracting his gaze.
He lowered his head to reply to a ssage on his phone, but midway, recalling his unusual reaction earlier, he couldn’t help but pause.
Had he been...spacing out? Staring at her...spacing out?
...
At 7:20, Zhang Te’s assistant ca in, waking Xia Wan’an with his voice.
At 7:25, the three of them left the suite and took the elevator to the hall on the second floor.
The venue, set up two days in advance, was as luxurious as the Crystal Palace. Everyone was dressed to the nines, huddled in groups, engaged in enthusiastic conversation.
This was the first ti Xia Wan’an had accompanied Han Jingnian at such an event. Oh no, it was actually her first ti ever accompanying soone as the main character to such a banquet. Luckily she ca from a good background and had seen such gatherings growing up. Thanks to that exposure, she was able to handle such situations well.
In fact, she didn’t need to do much or say anything, most of the ti all she had to do was stand by Han Jingnian’s side and smile. Occasionally, when the won next to her struck up a conversation, she carried on a polite discourse.
Once the formalities were done and the guests began mingling in their respective groups, Xia Wan’an knew that Han Jingnian wouldn’t need her as much. So, using the excuse of being "tired", she left.
