The man at the desk, silent for a long ti, finally spoke. His voice was very soft, as if speaking to himself. "No longer returning back, she wouldn’t be there if I do... it’s not ho anymore..."

Zhang Te didn’t catch his words. "Huh?" he asked, and after a pause, asked again, "President Han, what did you just say?"

Han Jingnian fell silent again. After a while, Jingnian looked up at Zhang Te, "It’s nothing, you can go out first."

Zhang Te hesitated, noticing sothing was off. However, seeing Han Jingnian’s insistence, he eventually left the office.

In the large office, only Han Jingnian was left. He stared blankly at his computer screen, seeming to be in a daze. His face was pale against his dark eyes, which looked sowhat lifeless.

At eight o’clock, Zhang Te entered the office with so breakfast, pushing the door open to Han Jingnian’s office.

"President Han, we have a morning eting later. You should have sothing to eat."

Han Jingnian gave a slight nod, not touching much of his breakfast when he suddenly asked, "Has she arrived?"

Zhang Te knew that Han Jingnian was asking about Xia Wan’an’s arrival at the office. He shook his head, "Not yet. The lady usually arrives at the company after nine."

Han Jingnian just responded with a slow "Oh," before he put down his chopsticks and went into the break room.

He took a shower, changed into clean clothes and proceeded to the eting.

Throughout the eting, Han Jingnian was noticeably distracted, frequently checking the ti. As soon as it struck nine, he imdiately declared the eting adjourned. As soon as he left the eting room, he hastily asked Zhang Te, "Has she arrived?"

Zhang Te shook his head, "Not yet."

Han Jingnian didn’t say anything, but Zhang Te clearly saw anxiety and worry in his lowered eyes.

Only at eleven o’clock did Zhang Te learn that Xia Wan’an had called in sick the previous afternoon.

Han Jingnian, who had been able to work steadily in his office until then, beca slightly agitated.

He barely worked at all that afternoon and before the workday was over, he thought of the Han family reunion dinner that evening and rushed directly to the old house.

Upon arriving at the old house, he discovered that Xia Wan’an had called his grandmother the day before to inform her that she had urgent business and could not co for dinner that evening.

It was only then that Han Jingnian realized that when soone was determined to avoid you, you wouldn’t be able to find them.

The realization left him feeling incredibly anxious, so much so that he could barely string together sentences when his grandmother asked about his recent situation.

During dinner, when his grandmother asked him for a pair of chopsticks, Han Jingnian handed her a napkin instead.

The grandmother didn’t expose Jingnian’s mistake but accepted the napkin gracefully.

After eating, Han Jingnian didn’t linger, and left.

The second he was gone, Old Lady Han called over the housekeeper. "Did you notice that Jingnian seems like a completely different person tonight?"

The housekeeper thought for a mont, "Young Master Jingnian didn’t have much of an appetite tonight." He barely touched the food or vegetables.

"You are only seeing the surface, not the essence. It’s not that he didn’t have an appetite, it’s as if he lost his soul."

The housekeeper was puzzled, "Lost his soul?"

"Yes, lost his soul, as if his soul ran away with Wan’an."

"Ran away? Didn’t the third mistress say she had to leave for work? How co it’s said she ran away now?"

"Wan’an said she was leaving for work but I don’t think she is just away for work. It seems more like she’s run away!"
