At six o’clock in the evening, the mahjong ga ended, and the two madams said goodbye and left, taking Qu Ying with them.

The originally bustling living room quieted down instantly, and after washing her hands, Zhang Cheng’s mother started asking him about his impression of Qu Ying.

Zhang Cheng, harried by his mother, could only give a neutral response: "Just so-so."

It really was just so-so. He used to be quite enthusiastic about blind dates, although they either ended before they started or were interrupted shortly after beginning. He was genuinely excited about the girls, but this ti... he couldn’t quite figure out what was going on. He finally had a successful blind date, and yet now, he couldn’t even rember what Qu Ying looked like... Not even a rough outline, or whether her eyes were big or small.

"What do you an ’just so-so’? Which ’so-so’ is it? Are you satisfied or not, Chengcheng..."

Zhang Cheng, exasperated by his mother, was just thinking of how to respond when his phone rang in his pocket, and like grabbing a lifesaver, he dashed out of the villa to answer it.

After hanging up, Zhang Cheng turned around and saw the Han Family’s servant who had apparently been waiting behind him for so ti.

"Mr. Zhang, dinner is ready."

"Oh, thank you." After responding to the servant, Zhang Cheng followed him into the villa. As they reached the doorway, Zhang Cheng suddenly thought of Han Yixiao. It was the weekend; how co he hadn’t seen her after being at the old house for so long?

Thinking aloud, Zhang Cheng asked: "Is the young miss not back this weekend?"

"She is back, but she is feeling a bit unwell. Just now, when I went to call her for dinner, she was sleeping. The old lady said not to wake her up..."

"Unwell? Did she not see a doctor?" Zhang Cheng subconsciously glanced at the stairs leading to the second floor.

"Doctor Xie ca to see her, said it’s nothing serious. The young miss might be due to lack of rest; she has been having a mild fever these past few days..."

A mild fever... Zhang Cheng didn’t speak further but twisted his head again to glance at the stairs.

So, she has been having a fever these days, and he didn’t even know...

After dinner, Zhang Cheng’s mother went for a walk with Madam Han, and Zhang Cheng sat in the living room, idly waiting.

Unintentionally, his gaze landed on a box on the coffee table, inside which were lots of candies—the kind Han Yixiao used to give him to eat daily.

He genuinely disliked sweets. These days in Shanghai, he always felt like sothing was missing in his mouth every day, until seeing these candies; he then realized what was missing was a bit of sweetness.

As Zhang Cheng stared blankly at the candies, the Old Lady Han and his mother returned.

It was getting late, Zhang Cheng got up, said goodbye to his mother and Old Lady Han, and then left.

After dropping his mother off at ho, Zhang Cheng didn’t go upstairs but made up an excuse about a sudden urgent matter at his company, then drove his car alone to a nearby bar, where he had a couple of drinks.

Unable to drive after drinking, he left the bar and found a designated driver. The designated driver asked him where to go, and the address of his mother’s house lingered on his lips, but what he eventually spat out was the address of the apartnt where Han Yixiao had lived.

Opening the door to the apartnt, what welcod him was pitch darkness.

Unlike usual, it wasn’t brightly lit with Han Yixiao either sitting at the dining table directly facing the door reading a book or leaning over doing howork.
