In the pitch-dark dormitory, the other roommates had already fallen asleep.
Han Yixiao stared blankly at the dark ceiling for a good while before silently taking her phone away from her ear.
She really wanted to send a few more ssages to Zhang Cheng, really wanted to plead with him not to be like this, but as she held her phone and looked at it for a long ti, she couldn’t type even a single character.
...
Arriving in Shanghai, it was almost twelve o’clock at night.
Getting off the plane, Zhang Cheng felt his phone vibrating in his pocket. With his hands full and people crowding behind him, he didn’t stop to answer it, and just went along with the flow, walking straight ahead.
Once inside the airport, Zhang Cheng realized his phone had stopped vibrating. Knowing it wasn’t anything important, he went straight to the waiting area.
Seated in the taxi, as Zhang Cheng told the driver the na of the hotel he wanted to go to, he pulled out his phone from his pocket. When he saw the na of the caller, his expression froze for a mont, and it took him a while before he unlocked the screen and tapped into the ho page of the phone.
In the ssaging app, there were many unread ssages. After tapping in, they were all from her...
Zhang Cheng looked through the ssages one by one, and when he reached the last one, his lips involuntarily tightened. His fingertips clenched around the phone, hesitated several tis as if he was about to touch the screen, but then he pulled back each ti. It wasn’t until a low battery warning popped up that Zhang Cheng ca back to his senses, pressed the lock button, and as if he hadn’t seen those ssages, shoved the phone back into his pocket.
After arriving at the hotel and checking in, Zhang Cheng took a shower and by the ti he lay down on the bed, it was already one o’clock in the morning.
He was quite tired, but felt no sleepiness. He tossed and turned in bed for a long ti, unable to fall asleep, and finally had to pick up the phone that was charging on the bedside table.
He casually browsed through the news, and sohow ended up tapping into the ssaging app. By the ti he snapped out of it, he had already been staring at Han Yixiao’s string of ssages for quite a while.
How Zhang Cheng fell asleep, he wasn’t sure himself. He only knew that the next day when the alarm woke him up, he had a severe headache due to lack of sleep.
He rested with his eyes closed for two minutes, got up, washed up, dressed neatly, and while putting on his watch, he glanced at his phone. Other than contacts from the Shanghai Branch, Han Yixiao’s end was very quiet, she hadn’t called him again or sent any ssages.
After putting on his watch, Zhang Cheng exited Han Yixiao’s ssaging page, took his phone and laptop, had breakfast downstairs, and then went to the branch office.
An entire morning of etings, and when it was over, it was one o’clock in the afternoon. Zhang Cheng declined his Shanghai Branch colleagues’ invitation for a group al, cooped up in the branch office eting room, on the phone dealing with business with his secretary in Beijing, while tapping on his phone to order takeout.
After hanging up the phone, Zhang Cheng hadn’t finished ordering his takeout, but unbeknownst to him, his phone screen had sohow switched back to Han Yixiao’s ssage thread again.
Zhang Cheng stared at the screen with a heavy look for a few seconds and switched to the food delivery app.
...
Zhang Cheng stayed in Shanghai for a week. During that week, except for the night he left when Han Yixiao sent him many ssages and made many calls, for the rest of the days, she was like vanished from the world, never bothering him again.
(Sorry, I got carried away writing the new book this afternoon, causing to only start writing about Cheng and Yixiao now, heh heh~)
