“By the way, Jasmine, how did you manage to escape?”
Nan Mo’s eyes flickered evasively. “I… all the Viper Gang mbers went to deal with you. Only one person was guarding . I pretended to go to the restroom and then ca to warn you.”
“You’ve had a hard ti.”
Yang Dongqing took Nan Mo’s hand and walked step by step toward the depths of the fifth floor.
Soon, a massive wall with dark golden serpent patterns appeared before them.
On both sides of the wall stood rows of black-suited n in sharp uniforms, ard with guns. Each of them had a black viper tattoo on their neck and wore a pitch-black gas mask on their face.
Yang Dongqing pulled Nan Mo behind him, his killing intent surging as he stared coldly at the group.
Suddenly, the rows of black-clad n stepped back in unison, opening up a path in the center. Their heads lowered slightly, gazes fanatical, as if welcoming the arrival of a great figure from behind the wall.
Yang Dongqing narrowed his eyes. He knew the mastermind was finally appearing.
Under his watchful gaze, a bald, burly man in a black suit slowly erged from behind the wall, pushing a wheelchair.
In the wheelchair sat a man dressed in a neatly pressed suit, holding a serpent-patterned cane. His handso face was so pale that even the tea-colored glasses couldn’t hide its sickly tone.
“Chief!”
Over a dozen black-clad n shouted with fanatic excitent, bowing in perfect unison to welco the man.
“Su Mu!”
Yang Dongqing’s expression turned even colder. “So it really was you!”
Su Mu smiled faintly from his wheelchair. “It’s a pleasure to et you here, Yang Dongqing… classmate.”
“Hmph! That smile of yours won’t last much longer.” Yang Dongqing let out a cold snort, his gaze filled with killing intent.
“Oh? But didn’t you just say you were grateful I arranged for you to et Jasmine?”
Yang Dongqing’s eyes turned cold. “Enough nonsense. First, you threatened Jasmine, then you sent people to attack . Speak—how do you want to die?”
Su Mu showed no fear in the face of the Transcendent’s threats. He even had the leisure to toy with his serpent-patterned cane.
Yang Dongqing’s gaze involuntarily shifted to the dark golden pattern on the cane’s tip.
“Before you make a move, why not hear my terms first? Your strength is indeed impressive, but have you considered the girl behind you?
Bullets don’t have eyes. What if one accidentally makes a hole in that beautiful body? That wouldn’t be pretty, would it?”
As soon as those words fell, Yang Dongqing’s expression darkened. “You’re threatening ?!”
Nan Mo’s face also turned pale. Only now did she realize why Su Mu had let her go earlier.
Su Mu had known all along that the poison gas on the fourth floor wouldn’t work. That’s why he let her go—so she could beco Yang Dongqing’s weakness, preventing him from fighting freely.
But on second thought, she realized sothing didn’t add up. If Su Mu wanted to restrain Yang Dongqing, he could’ve just taken her hostage. Why go through all that trouble?
Su Mu shook his head. “No need to say it so harshly. Just a kind reminder. After all, you wouldn’t want anything to happen to Miss Jasmine, would you?”
Hearing this, Nan Mo’s delicate body trembled, and she instinctively shrank behind Yang Dongqing.
Feeling her fear, Yang Dongqing hesitated slightly.
Su Mu continued, “Looks like I can state my condition now. Actually, I hold no grudge against you. The reason I invited you here was simply to ask a few questions.”
“What questions?”
Su Mu smiled faintly. “For example… how to obtain Transcendent power.”
Yang Dongqing imdiately sneered. “And you think you’re worthy of coveting Transcendence?”
Su Mu didn’t get angry. He maintained his gentle smile. “Don’t speak so absolutely. If even you can do it, why can’t I?”
A flash of anger passed over Yang Dongqing’s face. “Give up. It’s not for you.”
“Then let
make you an offer—one million for the clue to Transcendence.”
In District Thirteen, this was already a sky-high amount, since most wealth was concentrated in the Upper District.
“Not enough.”
Su Mu didn’t seem surprised and raised the offer imdiately. “Ten million.”
Yang Dongqing chuckled coldly. “Su Mu, I thought you were a smart man. Turns out you’re a fool. If I kill you, the money becos mine anyway!”
Su Mu shrugged, unconcerned. “Since we can’t negotiate, then there’s no need to talk.”
Click click click…
The sound of more than a dozen guns being loaded echoed. The Viper Gang mbers on either side of Su Mu raised their weapons in unison.
Yang Dongqing’s expression grew tense, and the murderous aura on his body surged. For a mont, the atmosphere was on the verge of erupting.
“Jasmine, don’t worry. As long as you stay behind , I’ll block all the bullets. They don’t have unlimited ammo. Once their clips are empty, it’ll be Su Mu’s turn to die.” He reassured her in a low voice.
Su Mu watched the two with interest and waved his hand.
In an instant—gunfire exploded!
Bang bang bang bang…
The dense gunfire and bursting bullets created a web of death in the dim hall.
anwhile, sparks burst from Yang Dongqing’s body as the bullets struck him, each one bouncing off his steel-like skin with forceful impact.
His strong body was forced back slightly by the repeated strikes. While his body could withstand bullets, the force still pushed him.
The barrage lasted half a minute. As the sounds of empty clips clicking echoed, Yang Dongqing finally lifted his head.
Panting heavily, he glanced at the now unard opponents and sneered coldly. “Now… it’s my turn!”
Just as he was about to strike, Su Mu calmly reached into his jacket. Yang Dongqing’s expression tightened, imdiately stopping his movent.
He had nearly forgotten—Su Mu hadn’t fired a shot this whole ti.
But the next mont, Yang Dongqing froze. What Su Mu pulled out wasn’t a gun… but a vintage-style, dark golden pocket watch with intricate patterns.
Ding!
With a crisp sound, the pocket watch flipped open.
Yang Dongqing saw the dense engravings—interwoven dark golden lines that eventually ford a serpent eating its own tail.
“The ti’s just about right,” Su Mu said softly.
Then he slowly stood up from the wheelchair, using the serpent cane for support, and began walking toward Yang Dongqing.
The eerie sight made Yang Dongqing feel an inexplicable sense of dread.
“What are you doing? Coming to die?”
Su Mu smiled faintly. “Yang Dongqing, classmate… haven’t you noticed?”
“Noticed what?”
“Don’t you feel dizzy?”
Dizzy?
Yang Dongqing’s expression shifted. Ever since entering the fifth floor, he had felt a little lightheaded—but he dismissed it as the aftereffect of his earlier injuries. Could it be…
“Do your limbs feel weak? Your vision a bit blurry?”
Now that Su Mu ntioned it, he did feel fatigue and blurred vision. He shook his head fiercely, trying to shake it off.
“Yang Dongqing!” Nan Mo cried out anxiously, “Are you okay?!”
“What’s going on?!” Yang Dongqing was panicking.
At that mont, Su Mu, like a refined villain from a movie, began walking and delivering his victory speech…
