Sothing is wrong. Nature is complete silence. It is like the calm before the storm. It has been two days since my father told to investigate the monster-summoning device. Sadly, with this massive forest around us, I only found one more device.
Sadly, we are too late to co, as the people around the device are dead.
We buried the dead and destroyed the device. Sadly, that is the last device we can find in the past two days.
"Father!"
I snap from my thoughts and look to the right. I can see Sonia walk toward with a smile on her face. She and her group arrived yesterday. Ever since she arrived, she kept close to . In truth, she is the reason why we found that damned device.
"Sonia, how are you?"
"Great! What are we going to do today?"
I look at the distance and say.
"I don’t know, Sonia. Sothing is coming, and I have a feeling it is the enemy."
"The enemy? Will they attack that fast? I thought grandfather said they will attack after the rest of the army cos?"
"I know, but I have a feeling they will co."
"Should we tell Grandpa?"
"I already did, but the other lord kept telling to shut up."
I know sothing is wrong. I don’t want to accuse the two lords, but their behavior shows how untrustworthy they are. Even my father, who sees them as his uncle in all but blood, starts to look uncomfortable and gets suspicious.
Lucky for us, my father had a great poker face and did not show his suspicion.
"... Should I kill him?"
"No, Sonia. You cannot kill them. It will create more problems for us. Anyway, Sonia–"
I did not finish my sentences before we heard a loud war horn being blown. I look down and see the three scouts get inside the fortress while blowing a war horn.
"Enemy is coming! The enemy is coming!"
Just like that, the entire fortress gets into action. The archers quickly take their bows and arrows from the armory before getting on the wall. The other soldiers help the archer by carrying the spare arrows to the wall.
Thirty seconds later, Jullian arrives beside but is not alone. Standing next to him is the child we rescue. His na is Jonathan, and he decided to follow . However, before I can say sothing about this situation, Jullian decides to take over and train him.
For the past two days, he has been working hard, and to my surprise, Jonathan has a talent as an archer. Because of this, I decided to give him a low-level crossbow from my inventory. After receiving that crossbow, Jonathan goes unconscious for so reason. I checked him and saw nothing wrong with him, so I only put him in his tent.
"Young master! What should we do?"
"Yes! Lord Gwyndolin! What can we do?"
I look at them and say.
"I don’t know. I think we should wait for the other lords to co."
I can only sigh when Jullian and Jonathan frown at the ntion of Lord Lionheart and Lord Tarrow.
"Let’s wait for them first. If no order is given, Jullian, I need you to gather our n and prepare to do the hit-and-run tactic. I will give you guys the pendant, armor, and weapon. I have a new mission for you guys. It has the sa core but different goals."
"Of course, young master! I will not let you down."
I nod and look at Sonia.
"Sonia, go and gather your people. We need them here."
"Of course, father."
I nod and feel soone tugging my robe. I look at Jonathan, who looks at with determination.
"Lord Gwyndoling, what can I do?"
I think for a few seconds and want to tell him to stay back, but I also know that he will ignore my command and join anyway. I prefer to have an eye on him rather than letting him join the war unsupervised.
"For now, stay near . You will be my eyes. Here."
I give him a low-level ring.
"Take this ring and wear it. Once you wear it, you can summon a falcon that can be your eyes in the sky. Tell the enemy’s movent and watch how Jullian and the others are doing when they go."
"Yes, my lord! I will not let you down!"
I nod and wait for my father to arrive. Lucky for , it did not take long. After two minutes, he arrived on the wall with Lord Lionheart and Lord Tarrow. When he arrived, my father said,
"What is the situation?"
"Nothing, Father. The enemy has yet to arrive, but the scout says that the enemy moves with their full strength."
"Another full assault, huh? There is no report of reinforcent for the enemy. What is he thinking? Charles is not this reckless. He always fights to win, and this kind of attack is not a good strategy to win."
We look in the distance, and after a few seconds of silence, my father says.
"The enemy sotis needs it because of the trap. That ans we can expect them to arrive at noon or just before sunset. Either this is a night attack, or they want to siege this place. We have the high ground, but we did not have the number."
"My lord, I have a suggestion."
"What is it, Lord Lionheart?"
"I think we should be the ones attacking them before they arrive. Not only will this reduce their number, but it will also reduce their morale. I suggest using the flying squad. They are the most suitable group to do this."
No, that is stupid. The enemy already knows the capabilities of the flying squad. They will make sure to bring their best archer to shoot Jullian and his crew down. Previously they focused their mage and archer in the front, making Jullian and his crew effective as they had nothing to stop them.
Jullian and his group will be using a guerilla tactic, unlike before, where they get the attention of the other unit. I want them to carry rings that conceal them from the enemy and hit where it hurts the most.
Lucky for , my father agrees with as he shakes his head.
"No. They are an elent of surprise. If we send them imdiately, the enemy will notice and shoot them down. We will stay here and defend the fortress. We have the high ground, and the wall is fortified enough for them to have difficulty breaching this place. They might have the number, but we have the quality."
I can see Lord Lionheart frown but nod.
"Very well, my lord."
I raise one of my eyebrows when I notice Lord Lionheart’s right-hand man slips away into the armory.
