Sam was busy cooking in the tribe’s communal kitchen and hadn’t participated in patrols for a while, so he missed this battle. Only now did he hear the news and rush over.
"Didn’t you say there was a fight with Elves? Why are you all in the mood to bake cakes like this?"
Sam pushed open the courtyard gate and saw this group of people baking and eating, extrely relaxed. He couldn’t help starting to suspect if he had heard wrong. It was just that there was indeed a strong sll of Elf blood in the tribe.
It seed it wasn’t a big deal. Sam quietly walked to the stove and said to Balu, who was baking cakes: "Give a cake."
"Why are you only arriving now? You don’t know how fierce our fight with the Elves was today, and the magic Little Eric used..." Kevin gestured wildly, embellishing the story of today’s battle for Sam.
Sam held a piece of cake in his mouth, forgetting to chew, listening intently.
After experiencing a thrilling battle, everyone had a simple yet delicious dinner in Eric’s yard, then contentedly went ho to rest.
...
The moon rose high, and bright silvery moonlight sprinkled over the ground.
Eric placed Leo and Mat, who were fast asleep, on the bed and covered them with a feather quilt.
The spring night was still chilly. Eric placed a small fireball in the earthen stove in the corner of the room to let the warmth spread and chase away the night’s cold.
The children knew nothing; they played happily with mud and made adobe bricks every day.
When tired, they found the Dwarves to help wash the mud off their fur. When hungry, they went to the communal kitchen to eat.
Especially Leo—when Eric first arrived, the boy was still very shy and dared not play with other friends in the tribe. Now he was no different from a true little Snow Wolf.
After Mat woke up, Eric didn’t have much ti, so he entrusted her to Leo.
Leo listened to his older brother the most. Every day he took his little sister to play with friends, and when they were full at night, they ca ho to sleep. Returning tonight, they were just in ti to eat the last batch of baked cakes. The two children stuffed their bellies with cakes and salted eggs before rolling over to sleep.
Eric stood up and looked out the window, his brows knitting together involuntarily. Recently, Evan had been going out all the ti. Apart from practicing magic with him early in the morning, he was nowhere to be seen at other tis, and he seed heavy-hearted every day. Today it was so late, and he still hadn’t returned.
He didn’t want to pry into the other’s private matters, but having lived together for so long, and with Evan teaching him so many spells and helping the Hadu tribe so much, Eric worried about his safety.
Eric waited until he grew impatient, went into the warehouse to get a baked cake to gnaw on, and only after finishing it did Evan push open the courtyard gate and walk in.
"Evan, what have you been busy with lately? Do you need my help with anything?" Eric asked carefully.
Evan’s clothes were a bit disheveled, which was very unusual for him.
Hearing Eric ask, his expression was complicated. He opened his mouth: "I’m fine, just researching a very difficult spell. By the way..."
Evan’s breathing beca hurried: "Did Elves co today?"
"Even you know? An Elf team invaded our territory today. They started fighting as soon as they arrived. Now they are temporarily detained in a tent next to the Ox-Head tribe."
Eric was still a bit annoyed ntioning these tyrannical Elves.
This wasn’t the first ti he had t Elves.
When refining salt at the beach, he had t the beautiful and gentle Funa. Clearly, they were on opposing sides, but she still worried that a child like him running to the beach would be hungry and used magic to grow many breadfruits for him.
Why were the Elves coming to this tribe today so vastly different from that beautiful sister?
But... Eric carefully recalled and suddenly realized sothing. He kept thinking the leading Elf looked familiar. Wasn’t that the hateful guy following behind Funa back then!
No wonder he was always urging Funa at that ti; perhaps their prince was already missing then.
Evan’s black eyes shone with worry, which was uncommon. Eric continued to comfort him:
"Although the fighting was quite fierce, the tribesn only suffered superficial wounds, so you don’t need to worry. On the contrary, among the Elves, one almost died here. Fortunately, he didn’t die in the end; otherwise, the tribe would definitely be troubled by them again."
Eric thought Evan was worried about the safety of the tribesn, but unexpectedly, after he said these words, Evan’s expression didn’t improve but instead showed a few more degrees of worry.
"What’s wrong?" Eric didn’t quite understand and asked carefully.
Evan sighed softly, his exquisite face tinged with sorrow. He lowered his eyes to look at Eric seriously, placing both hands on Eric’s shoulders:
"Little Eric, I am very grateful that you never asked about my background, but today I cannot help but tell you. I hope you won’t be angry."
Eric looked up blankly, his first reaction being: "Evan, did you grow taller? Why do I rember you being the sa height as !"
He clearly rembered when he picked Evan up, they were the sa height!
Eric had secretly rejoiced that finally soone was the sa height as him. Why did Evan now estimate to be at least 1.8 ters tall? He was not convinced!
Evan laughed helplessly, gently tapping Eric’s forehead indulgently: "You, is this the main point?"
Eric touched his forehead, still a bit unconvinced in his heart, but looking at Evan’s expression, he knew what he was about to say must be very important. He had always been curious about Evan’s background—whether he was a noble or a wandering great mage—so he held his breath and listened.
Evan’s first sentence stunned Eric into freezing on the spot:
"Actually, I am not human, and neither is Arthur."
"What? You are not humans? But, but the sll and senses of Snow Wolf people can’t be wrong? You clearly look like humans?" Eric exclaid, mouth gaping in shock.
"Arthur and I simultaneously cast forbidden spells during combat. The energy of the two forbidden spells collided too powerfully.
By the ti I woke up, I had been saved by you. At that ti, I had turned into a human; everything from my body to my power had changed completely.
Now my magic is gradually recovering, but my body cannot transform back, and that damned Arthur doesn’t rember anything."
ntioning Arthur, Evan couldn’t help gnashing his teeth.
