Ethan imdiately signaled the expedition to withdraw.
Not far.
Just enough to remain hidden.
The sprites quickly moved into a cluster of rocks overlooking the valley.
From there, they could continue observing without attracting attention.
The approaching creatures gradually ca into view.
Ethan studied them carefully.
They resembled massive boars.
Each stood nearly twice the height of the rabbit-like creatures found elsewhere on the planet.
Heavy muscles rolled beneath thick hides.
Curved tusks protruded from their jaws.
Their movents were calm.
Confident.
The sort of confidence that ca from strength.
There were around thirty of them.
Not hundreds.
Not an overwhelming force.
Yet the valley's other creatures clearly gave them space.
The boar-like creatures advanced directly toward one of the largest Origin Fruit patches.
Several deer-like animals imdiately retreated.
The boars ignored them.
They simply began feeding.
A few dug into the earth.
Others grazed.
The entire group behaved as though the valley belonged to them.
Ethan watched for nearly an hour.
Eventually, a pattern beca obvious.
The boars weren't ruling through violence.
They were ruling through presence.
Most creatures simply chose not to challenge them.
The valley wasn't controlled.
It was dominated.
There was a difference.
The discovery helped Ethan understand Planet 042 a little better.
The wolves had their territory.
The boars had theirs.
The world wasn't organized around a single apex species.
Different regions appeared to have different dominant creatures.
That was useful information.
The Earth Sprite suddenly tugged at his sleeve again.
Ethan followed its gaze.
The tallic glimrs embedded within the valley wall.
The resource they had noticed from the ridge.
The Earth Sprite was practically vibrating with anticipation.
Ethan smiled.
"Fine."
The expedition carefully moved along the edge of the valley.
Avoiding both the boars and the feeding grounds.
Several hours later, they reached the cliff face.
Up close, the tallic glimrs beca much easier to see.
Veins of dark gray tal ran through the rock.
The Earth Sprite imdiately began examining them.
Several elentless sprites assisted.
Small fragnts were chipped loose.
The Earth Sprite inspected one piece.
Then another.
Then another.
A notification appeared.
[ Resource Recognized ]
The ssage vanished.
No explanation followed.
No resource na.
No detailed information.
Just recognition.
Still, Ethan's expression brightened.
That was enough.
The System had confird it.
Another resource.
Another opportunity for developnt.
The Earth Sprite looked extrely pleased.
Even more than when it discovered the iron deposit.
That alone told Ethan the material was probably worth bringing ho.
He didn't need to understand everything imdiately.
Knowing sothing was useful was enough.
The expedition spent the remainder of the day collecting small samples.
Not mining.
Not stripping the cliff.
Just gathering enough material to study later.
By evening, Ethan finally called a halt.
The group gathered atop a rocky ledge overlooking the valley.
As the sun slowly sank toward the horizon, Ethan reviewed everything they had learned.
The wolves.
The silver pillar.
The Origin Fruit valley.
The new tal resource.
Multiple creature territories.
Different ecological relationships.
Planet 042 was no longer a mystery.
Not entirely.
There were certainly things he still didn't know.
But he understood enough.
More importantly, he had found what he originally ca looking for.
Resources.
Developnt opportunities.
Paths for growth.
The exploration phase was no longer the priority.
Exploitation was.
His civilization was still small.
His Origin Sphere was still young.
And now he possessed several leads worth pursuing.
The recruitnt competition was approaching.
Every day mattered.
Ethan looked toward the distant valley one final ti.
Then he made his decision.
Tomorrow, they would begin the journey back.
It was ti to stop searching.
And start building.
Far below, the creatures of Planet 042 continued their lives.
Unaware that a young Creator had just finished the most important expedition of his awakening so far.
And for the first ti since arriving on Planet 042, Ethan felt confident that his civilization's next stage of growth was finally within reach.
