Night settled over the forest.

The clearing beca quieter.

Not silent.

Just calr.

The wolves remained gathered around the silver pillar.

The faint glow drifting across the stone beca easier to see beneath the darkness.

Ethan remained hidden among the trees.

None of the expedition had moved.

Hours had passed.

Yet he still felt no urge to leave.

The longer he observed, the more unusual the scene beca.

Nothing here resembled a battlefield.

Nothing resembled a hunting ground.

It almost felt like a gathering place.

A place the wolves considered important.

The thought lingered in his mind.

Beside him, several Elentless Sprites shifted restlessly.

They had spent most of the day moving through the forest.

Even creatures made of energy had limits to their focus.

The Water Sprite noticed imdiately.

It quickly organized several sprites into small groups.

So remained alert.

Others rested.

The transition happened naturally.

Without instruction.

Ethan quietly watched.

Three days ago, the sprites would have waited for orders.

Now they were beginning to manage themselves.

The change wasn't dramatic.

But it was there.

And sohow that made him happier than discovering a new resource.

The civilization was growing.

Not in numbers.

Not in strength.

In maturity.

His attention returned to the clearing.

A movent near the edge caught his eye.

One of the wolves left the gathering.

Then another.

Then a third.

Ethan frowned.

For the first ti since arriving, wolves were departing.

The Air Sprite imdiately noticed as well.

The scout pointed toward the retreating figures.

Ethan considered the situation.

Following them could reveal sothing useful.

But it could also expose the expedition.

The pillar remained the greater mystery.

After several monts, he shook his head.

Not yet.

There was still too much he didn't understand.

The Air Sprite settled back down.

The decision was made.

The group would continue observing.

Ti passed.

The line approaching the pillar gradually beca shorter.

Eventually only a handful of wolves remained waiting.

Then even they finished.

The clearing grew still once more.

The pillar continued emitting its faint silver glow.

Nothing else happened.

No hidden event.

No dramatic transformation.

Just quiet.

Ethan slowly exhaled.

Part of him had expected sothing more.

A special occurrence.

A visible effect.

Instead, the wolves had simply used the pillar and gone about their business.

Useful.

Ordinary.

Natural.

The realization felt strangely important.

Not every valuable resource needed to be spectacular.

The iron deposit wasn't spectacular.

Yet it mattered.

Maybe this pillar worked the sa way.

The only difference was that he didn't understand its purpose yet.

A distant howl suddenly echoed through the forest.

Dozens of wolf ears twitched.

Several heads lifted.

The reaction spread rapidly through the clearing.

Then sothing unexpected happened.

Groups of wolves began leaving together.

Not all at once.

Not in a rush.

Just steadily.

Within an hour, the number of wolves around the pillar had noticeably decreased.

Ethan blinked.

He hadn't expected that.

Earlier there had been hundreds.

Now there were significantly fewer.

The resource remained.

The wolves did not.

That observation imdiately caught his attention.

If the wolves were willing to leave, then access to the pillar clearly wasn't constant.

Perhaps they only needed occasional contact.

Or perhaps they had already received whatever benefit they ca for.

The possibilities continued multiplying.

Unfortunately, answers remained scarce.

The Fire Sprite stared after the departing wolves.

Its body flickered with excitent.

The clearing was becoming less crowded.

Less dangerous.

The temptation was obvious.

The Water Sprite imdiately moved closer.

The Fire Sprite looked away innocently.

The Water Sprite remained unconvinced.

Ethan almost smiled.

So conflicts seed universal.

As midnight approached, another change occurred.

The Earth Sprite suddenly beca active.

The small elental had spent most of the day quietly studying the pillar.

Now it was moving.

Not toward the clearing.

Toward the ground beneath them.

The sprite knelt beside a patch of exposed soil.

Its tiny hands touched the earth.

Then it began examining several small stones nearby.

Ethan watched curiously.

The Earth Sprite wasn't acting alard.

If anything, it seed thoughtful.

The sprite gathered a few pebbles and placed them together.

Then it looked toward the silver pillar.

Then back at the stones.

The process repeated several tis.

Eventually it picked up one particular stone and hugged it possessively.

Ethan stared.

The behavior looked familiar.

Very familiar.

The last ti the Earth Sprite had acted like that was after obtaining the Earth Beast Horn.

Resources.

The Earth Sprite was reacting to resources again.

Not necessarily the pillar itself.

But sothing connected to it.

The realization sparked an idea.

He looked around.

The forest floor nearby contained scattered rocks and exposed soil.

Most appeared ordinary.

Still, he quietly approached an area several ters away from the hiding position.

The wolves remained focused elsewhere.

Carefully, he collected several small stones.

Nothing happened.

No notifications appeared.

No resource recognition.

Just rocks.

After a few minutes, he returned.

The Earth Sprite imdiately ignored every stone except one.

It pointed at the chosen pebble.

Then at the distant pillar.

Then back at the pebble.

Ethan's eyes narrowed.

Interesting.

Very interesting.

The stone itself wasn't recognized by the system.

At least not yet.

But sothing about it had attracted the Earth Sprite's attention.

Perhaps the pillar was influencing the surrounding environnt.

The thought was reasonable.

The iron deposit existed beneath the ground.

Its effects extended beyond a single piece of ore.

Maybe the pillar functioned similarly.

The possibility was worth rembering.

Hours later, the eastern sky finally began to brighten.

Morning was approaching.

The wolves remaining in the clearing numbered far fewer than before.

Still too many to challenge.

Still dangerous.

But noticeably reduced.

Ethan stretched slightly.

His thoughts were becoming clearer.

The expedition had gained no imdiate rewards.

No resources.

No SP.

No combat victories.

Yet the trip didn't feel wasted.

Quite the opposite.

They had learned sothing important.

The silver pillar was not simply attracting wolves.

It was part of their lives.

The wolves traveled to it.

Waited for it.

Used it.

Then left.

That behavior suggested consistency.

Routine.

Predictability.

And predictability created opportunity.

Not today.

Maybe not tomorrow.

But eventually.

Ethan took one final look at the clearing.

The silver pillar stood exactly where it had stood yesterday.

Quiet.

Unmoving.

Patient.

The wolves understood it.

He didn't.

Yet.

But with each observation, the distance between those two facts felt a little smaller.
