"Damn it!" Arion quickly took out both his axe and charged forward. It was not that he suddenly got a boost in his courage but because he had no choice but to charge forward.
He already knew that a horde of Jawfiends was chasing him from behind, especially the huge unknown shadow he saw before.
He obviously was in no mood to test his courage by fighting against all of them. So, the next best choice was to deal with the lone Jawfiend before him and run away before the other Dreadlings catch up.
However, Arion didn't charge towards the Jawfiend directly since he knew it spits out a corrosive poison, and he should steer clear away from it.
He was running towards its side as if trying to run past it, but his eyes were keenly observing the Jawfiend's movents.
The Jawfiend saw Arion trying to get past it and got ready to stop its prey from escaping.
*Speeew!*
"That's it!" Arion was waiting for the Jawfiend to spit at him since he saw before that these Jawfiends always had a period of cooldown after it spits out its venom each ti.
All he wanted was the Jawfiend to spit out its venom and take advantage of the window of opportunity to strike it down.
But Arion was astonished when he felt as if ti was moving a bit slower as he saw the venom shooting out from its mouth.
His movents and reflexes were faster. Thus, he was able to dodge it without much difficulty, much contrary to his expectations. Before he was not at all confident of dodging its poisonous spit, but the adrenaline in his body was suppressing his fear.
However, now he had no idea why he felt as if he was able to react faster, but he indeed rejoiced inwardly seeing that he had the opportunity to strike it down now!
"HA!" Arion brought down one of his axe over its head, but it quickly dodged, thus making him miss.
"Shit! You slippery bastard," Arion wildly charged at the Dreadling while focusing on its legs to react fast enough to strike it the mont it changes direction.
"HA!" Arion brought down one of his axe in the sa fashion as before but stopped in mid-air as if feigning his attack.
The Jawfiend thought that Arion was going to attack it the sa way and stepped sideways like before, but Arion already predicted it, and with a smile, he quickly moved his other axe to strike it down.
"Got you fucker!" Arion's eyes lit up with fervor as the axe in his left hand found its mark and slashed through its head.
*KREEE*
The Jawfiend screeched in pain as it tried to move away from him. But Arion didn't relent and kept on sinking his axe even deeper and took advantage of its pain and confusion to bring down his second axe over its head.
*Sptch!*
Dark red blood gushed out from its head as both of Arion's axes made a severe wound on its head, making it succumb to the ground.
Seeing its corpse, Arion was shocked at himself for being able to bring down a Dreadling all on his own!
'I did it!! I killed one!' Arion inwardly scread in disbelief and excitent since he never thought he would be able to kill one so easily. He also felt that the weight of the axes he was holding felt lighter.
By looking at how sturdy and thick the axes seed, he thought it should feel heavier, especially when soone like him was holding it.
And this also made him wonder how he was able to kill a Dreadling with his asly strength in the first place.
But he suddenly stifled his excitent when he heard other screeches echoing in the darkness.
"Shit, they are catching up quite fast!" Arion didn't waste any further ti and ran forward with his axes out.
He kept on running as fast as he could, but then he frowned when he saw that there was a large number of stones piled up ahead and the only opening was a small hole above these piles of stones.
'How the fuck am I gonna climb over them??' Arion beca tense since he basically ca at a dead end and felt that these stones must have been debris that fell off from sowhere.
His heart thumped as he heard the sound of the Dreadlings scurrying from behind, followed by their nasty screeches.
He finally gritted his teeth and readied his bow, thinking that there was no other choice but to face them all head-on.
Since the Dreadlings that were chasing him were still a few dozen ters behind him, he decided to use his bow and arrow to strike them down from afar.
He swiftly took out an arrow from his quiver and drew his bow without much hope, thinking that he wouldn't be able to draw out its string properly.
But to his astonishnt, when he pulled the string backward, he felt less resistance this ti and was able to stretch it sufficiently enough to properly fire an arrow.
'What the heck is going on' Arion was being thrown surprises at one after the another but threw it all to the back of his mind since at this mont, the tension in his heart was keeping him focused at the front where he could see the shadows of the horde of Jawfiends scurrying forward followed by a huge shadow which seed to move slower than the Jawfiends.
*Kreee!*
Arion spotted two to three Jawfiends coming into his vision soon enough. He stretched the bowstring to the maximum he could and fired an arrow after aiming at one of them, "Take this, ugly fuckers!"
