I Returned to the Day He Brought His First Love Home Chapter 64: Trouble at Home
"I’m so jealous you get to take a break. I don’t get any ti off."
"The garnt workshop is shipping out an order soon," May Callahan said, her face full of envy. "They’re sending five thousand pieces ahead of ti to test the market."
The two of them chatted as they ate.
Once they finished, they went back to their work.
The next day, Grace Winslow went and got a neat, short haircut.
Without her thick, long hair, her head felt much lighter.
She sold the hair she’d cut off directly to the salon.
Not only did she get the haircut for free, but she also earned thirty yuan—more than she had expected.
The factory would be paying out wages in two days. With her five-hundred-yuan bonus and the reward for them using her design, she estimated her take-ho pay for the month would be over six hundred yuan.
Her personal savings were about to get a nice boost.
Grace Winslow bought a few things at the supply co-op and headed ho in high spirits.
But when she walked in the door, she realized the atmosphere in the house was off.
Irene Lynch looked grief-stricken.
Gregory Winslow sat to one side, frowning as he smoked.
Nolan Winslow was pacing restlessly around the room, frantic with worry.
No one even noticed when Grace Winslow ca in.
"Mom, Dad, Big Brother, what’s going on?"
Grace Winslow stood at the door for two minutes before she couldn’t stand it any longer and spoke up.
Everyone snapped back to reality.
Irene Lynch wiped away a tear, rising and walking over to Grace. "Grace, you’re back?"
"Why didn’t you call ahead to say you were coming?"
"Mom, were you crying? Did sothing happen?" Grace asked, her brow furrowed as she looked at Irene Lynch’s red, swollen eyes, which were clearly from a long bout of crying.
Irene Lynch quickly wiped at her eyes. "No, no, why would I be crying? I just got so sand in my eye. It’s nothing."
"Well, you rarely get to visit, and we don’t have much food in the house. I’ll go out and buy so groceries..."
"Don’t bother. Mom, you’ve never been a good liar. Whenever you lie, your eyes dart around, and you don’t know what to do with your hands."
"Sothing definitely happened. Just tell what it is," Grace said, cutting her mother off and calling her bluff.
Irene Lynch looked guilty and said nothing.
Nolan Winslow sighed. "It’s not our family, exactly. It’s your sister-in-law’s family that’s in trouble."
"A while ago, my father-in-law fell down the stairs. He fractured a vertebra in his lower back and broke his leg."
"The local hospital said they couldn’t treat him and that he needs to be sent to one of the big hospitals in the provincial capital."
"The thing is, her family doesn’t have that much money, so my brother-in-law ca to us to borrow so."
"Your sister-in-law only gave him twenty yuan, so he called her an ungrateful, heartless wretch."
"She was so distraught over it that she had a miscarriage. She lost the baby."
As Nolan Winslow spoke, he lowered his head, his face etched with pain.
"Then what about Lily? Where is she now? How could you leave her all alone after sothing like that happened?" Grace grew anxious when she realized Lily Callahan wasn’t at her parents’ house.
’Lily and Nolan have a great relationship. She must be absolutely devastated after sothing like this.’
"She’s at ho. I ca to talk it over with Mom and Dad. It’s just... my father-in-law has always been pretty good to us, so..." Nolan Winslow trailed off, scratching his head in distress.
’It went without saying that he had co to Mom and Dad to borrow money.’
’The problem was, they didn’t have much money left.’
’They had spent the bulk of their savings on my wedding, and just a few days ago, Mom had secretly slipped three hundred yuan. How could they have any money left?’
’That’s why everyone was so worried.’
