"Mom, no one can walk all over . In fact, I should thank Ivy White. Her showing up helped see Caleb Forrest’s true colors and gave the resolve to leave him."

"In the beginning, he hid his family situation from . He never told his mother was paralyzed and bedridden."

"After we got married, he kept trying to trick into giving up everything to help him take care of his mother."

"I always felt sothing was wrong back then. This wasn’t the life I wanted, nor was it the life I was supposed to have."

"But I loved him, so I was willing to compromise for him, willing to give things up for him."

"Ivy White’s appearance made see things clearly. Caleb Forrest has always been a selfish person. He was intentionally deceiving from the start."

"He wanted to coop up at ho and turn into a mindless tool. Gradually, I would have lost my sense of self completely. If he cheated on again down the line, I might not have even had the courage to leave him."

"When I was little, Dad always told that so things are a blessing in disguise. I didn’t understand it back then, but I do now."

"For , leaving Caleb Forrest isn’t a bad thing—it’s a good thing."

"So, Mom, you and Dad don’t need to worry about ."

Grace Winslow held Irene Lynch’s hand, waiting until she had cald down a little before speaking reassuringly.

Irene Lynch sighed. "Your father and I just wish you never had to go through such hardships. Look at your situation now... what are you going to do?"

"You can’t just stay single forever. I’ll keep a good eye out for you and see if I can find a nice man."

Grace Winslow fell silent.

’It was hard to change the mindset of the older generation.’

’If she told Irene Lynch that she didn’t plan on remarrying, her mother would probably assu she was still hung up on Caleb Forrest.’

"Mom, I just got divorced. Can you at least give so ti to process everything?"

"I don’t want to even think about marriage right now. Let’s talk about it again in a couple of years."

Grace Winslow thought for a mont before speaking tactfully.

The next mont, Irene Lynch’s brow furrowed. "You..."

"It’s absolutely not because of Caleb Forrest. It’s because I just got divorced. If I rush into another marriage right now, what if I end up making the sa mistake all over again?"

"What if I marry soone even worse than Caleb Forrest?"

Seeing that Irene Lynch was, as expected, jumping to the wrong conclusion, Grace Winslow quickly cut her off.

Irene Lynch sighed. "Two years is too long. Half a year. Six months at the most. It’s not like I can find soone suitable that quickly anyway. I’ll just start looking around slowly. I’ll be sure to find soone with a clean family background."

Grace Winslow knew there was no use arguing, so she just nodded.

That night, Irene Lynch kept Grace Winslow up talking for hours. Grace barely slept a wink.

「The next morning, she was up bright and early.」

Since she still planned on taking the college entrance exam, Grace wanted to use this trip ho to visit the salvage station and hunt for so books.

She let Irene Lynch know where she was going, slung a satchel over her shoulder, and left on her bike.

The salvage station wasn’t far from her ho, only about a ten-minute bike ride away.

When Grace arrived, there were already people there picking through second-hand junk.

Discarded furniture and all sorts of random items were piled together haphazardly.

Occasionally, people would find so real treasures in the piles.

Years ago, the salvage station was strictly managed and generally wasn’t open to the public.

But the policies had relaxed in recent years. To make a little extra money, they started letting locals pick through the miscellaneous junk, aside from the scrap tal destined for recycling.

You paid fifty cents to get in. Whatever you found, you’d show it to the administrator, who would assess its value. Pay the price, and you could take it ho.

Grace just wanted to look for so books. After paying the entrance fee, she asked where the books were kept and headed straight over.

’She just never expected to run into soone she knew there.’
