I Returned to the Day He Brought His First Love Home Chapter 31: Crying is Useless
Ivy White’s face paled, her lips trembling. "No, this... this can’t be possible... After I finished, Faye checked it over. She said there weren’t any problems, so I went to collect the paynt."
"I-I really didn’t know. You can’t bla , it’s not my fault..."
As soon as she panicked, Ivy White started trying to shift the bla.
May Callahan was so furious her chest ached. She spun around and called Faye Lowell over.
She slapped the report against Faye’s face. "Faye Lowell, see for yourself! She’s saying you confird it was fine, and that’s why she used this docunt to collect the final paynt. You tell —did you or did you not confirm it?"
Faye Lowell was still completely baffled.
She took the report and glanced at it before asking May Callahan in bewildernt, "Ms. Callahan, you can’t pin this on . Didn’t this report go missing a few days ago? Everyone in the office knows that. Besides, you know our departnt’s rules. If I had confird it, I would have had to sign it."
"A collections docunt like this requires at least two signatures confirming there are no issues before any money can be collected."
"Don’t you go trying to pin this crap on . I had a family matter for the past two days. Today is my first day back."
"The date on here is from the day before yesterday. Wasn’t that the day I asked you for ti off because my mother-in-law was sick? How could I have possibly confird it?"
"Faye, you... how can you deny it? You clearly told it was fine! Otherwise, why would I have dared to take it to collect the paynt?" Ivy White cried wretchedly, covering her face.
But this ti, it was useless, even if she cried until her tears ran dry.
Faye Lowell wasn’t buying it.
Neither was May Callahan.
The only one who would fall for such an act, Caleb Forrest, now looked grim, his mouth hanging open, unable to utter a single word.
’This isn’t my past life.’
’In the past life, Ivy White had put on a good act, and this whole affair wasn’t discovered until much later.’
’Back then, she and Caleb Forrest hadn’t gone all the way yet. They were in the throes of a passionate, ambiguous romance.’
’Caleb Forrest would have given his life for her.’
’But now that he’d already gotten her into bed, Caleb Forrest’s attitude toward Ivy White had changed slightly.’
His first instinct was that he couldn’t take the bla for this.
Five thousand yuan was no small matter.
After all his years of hard work, he had only managed to save up a little over a thousand yuan himself.
If he took the fall for Ivy, not only would his last few years of work have been for nothing, but he’d also probably end up saddled with a massive debt.
But at the sight of Ivy White’s tear-streaked face, Caleb Forrest’s heart softened.
Grace Winslow, however, paid them no mind. Her voice was cool and clear as she reminded everyone, "As for whether Faye confird it or not... there are plenty of people in this office. If sothing like that really happened, soone must have seen or heard it. Why don’t we just call them all in and ask? Then we’ll know, won’t we?"
Upon hearing this, Ivy White’s face went white, her eyes rolled back into her head, and she promptly fainted.
Grace Winslow sneered, picked up the tea mug from Oscar Osborne’s desk, and splashed its contents—tea leaves and all—right in Ivy’s face.
Caleb Forrest opened his mouth to stop her, but he was a step too late.
Oscar Osborne watched in dismay as his premium Biluochun tea, of which he’d only taken a few sips, was splashed all over Ivy White’s face.
He shot Gregory Winslow a reproachful glance.
Gregory Winslow simply smiled at his daughter, pretending not to have seen Oscar Osborne’s look.
Oscar Osborne cleared his throat. "Now, uh, Ms. Winslow..."
"Still not awake? When I was a child, I t a barefoot doctor who taught a bit of first aid. Allow to help Ms. White," Grace Winslow said, watching as Ivy White’s eyelashes fluttered, though her eyes remained squeezed shut. She couldn’t help but smile.
’Faking it?’
’In my past life, her act brought so much misery. Does she really think she can pull the sa trick in front of in this life?’
