Lightning crackled around Ye Feng’s body as he crouched. Flas erupted from his narrowed eyes and coated his blade in a sizzling sheath of swirling vapor.
Opposite him, Adam raised his hand. The wind created by the spinning arrows tugged at his sleeve, threatening to rip it off as he sneered. "Two elents? Wow! Almost as impressive as my dozens."
"Shut up!" Ye Feng scrutinised the different elents sparkling on the arrows. "The arrows are real, the elents re illusions, a vain attempt to distract . I’ve seen through your pathetic deceptions." His voice grew chilly. "Now die."
He watched Adam tilt his head with a confused expression. But he wouldn’t fall for it. There was no record of anyone born with more than seven affinities in the realm’s long history, much less dozens. He’d be a fool to believe they were real.
This farce ended now. It was ti to claim his destiny, surpass the legendary Protheus, and beco humanity’s new guiding light. And everything would be possible because of this blessed land.
Lightning charred the ground beneath his feet as he lunged like a voracious beast.
BOOM
The deafening shockwave created by his charge blasted dust and rubble in every direction. Winds roared in his ears, locks of purple hair wiping his face as he pierced the air like a lightning bolt.
Ti seed to slow to a crawl as Adam’s sky-blue eyes followed Ye Feng’s movents. Though much faster than him, he observed the burning blade calmly. After all, he didn’t need to move to counterattack.
With a thought, the thousands of arrows hovering behind him exploded with terrifying montum. The air quacked, burning, freezing, vibrating, and sizzling as streaks of multi-colored elents flashed like shooting stars.
He saw Ye Feng’s eyes widen and heard his frustrated curse as he tried to push through by dodging and deflecting the arrows amidst a cacophony of clangs and a rain of sparks.
’Illusions? Continue to delude yourself. It’ll make your despair all the more enjoyable.’
His mana rumbled, the ancient slabs turning into quicksand under his manipulation. It shattered Ye Feng’s posture, forcing him to halt and swing frantically to protect himself from the storm of elents threatening to consu him.
As he jumped to escape and prepare for his next assault, sothing gripped his heels and brought him back on the quicksands. Horrified, his eyes darted to the two rocky hands locking him in place. Yet, the sharp whistles continued.
What a blunder! Cursing, he raised his face and refocused on the imdiate threat: the arrows. Yet, he froze the next second. Why did they stop a centiter before his vitals?
CLAP CLAP
Adam clapped his hands, an intricate mana throne pulsing with the elents appearing behind him. He sat, supporting his smirking face with his fist.
"Your life is in my hands. Admit defeat, drop your weapon, and let explain I’m not the magus."
Ye Feng clenched his jaw, his grip tightened around his blade. Lose to a re mage? Him? Impossible! He was the hope of humanity, the one who’ll take over Protheus’ torch. And like his hero, he wouldn’t consider any price too high to achieve this goal.
As for Adam’s claims? Who would believe him? The remnants of humanity were reincarnated on the sa day. Soone appearing thirty years later could only an the magus found a way to infiltrate them.
A steely glint flashed in his eyes as they darted past the fighting disciples and landed on the old tomb. As long as he retrieved its content and bit the bullet, Adam would have no chance against him.
His blade clanged on the ground the next second as he raised his hands. "You win. Remove these arrows and stop the quicksand," he said through gritted teeth.
Adam nodded and snapped his fingers. The ground returned to normal, and the arrows drifted into beautiful mana streaks.
He clenched his fist in triumph, a soft smile curving his lips. He was the best and as expected, people only listened if his fist was bigger than theirs. And now, hopefully, he’d solve the misunderstanding about his origins through Ye Feng and Xian Yunxu.
Thinking about her, the temporal stasis locking her should wear off soon.
As if reading his mind, Ye Feng suddenly roared. "Buy five seconds, Xian Yunxu!"
Before his words faded, another shockwave blasted the room as Ye Feng dashed to the tomb.
Simultaneously, Xian Yunxu roared from behind as she slamd her fan down. "You should have ended when you could."
Adam snapped his head to her before it sank uncontrollably. Each muscle in his body twitched, his bones groaning as he felt his weight multiply and saw the arrows representing his gravity expand dangerously.
’How does it look like a spell?’ He frowned as his legs buckled. She had done sothing during their brief confrontation, but what? ’When she punched ?’
He condensed a frozen mirror before him, watching the reflection of the dark mark on his nose and its unsettling vibrance.
anwhile, Xian Yunxu gloated. "Kneel before those you tried to destroy. Taste the despair you forced on us when we were already on the brink of extinction. This is just the prelude of your fall magus!"
"I’m not the magus, you stupid pigs!" He ran his trembling fingers over his face, dismantling the gravity marking. "You fools are as stubborn as Moira! I’m done pulling my punches back!"
He thrust his palm overhead, his face darkening. "Atomic fission."
BOOM
The air above them exploded with his words, the shockwave rupturing everyone’s eardrums. Burning gales shoved them down, forcing them to gasp for breath.
Yet, amidst the terror, a strange sense of familiarity gripped their shuddering hearts. Atomic elent! Despite their research, they had learned that it didn’t exist, or rather Protheus obtained it through a succession of chaotic occurrences, making him the only recorded user.
"No!" As the core disciples began to doubt, Ye Feng strained his muscles, forcefully pushing himself off the ground. "You fucking son of a bitch dared to copy his elent! I swear you’ll never find rest."
Without giving ti to anyone to process his words, he streaked to the tomb.
RUMBLE
His leg collided with the lid, sending it flying and revealing an intact corpse. Chained with Qi strapped to four sealing formations, it sent an icy shiver down Adam’s spine.
"Don’t touch that, you fool!" He roared, his mana condensing into fifty giant spears behind him. And this ti, they wouldn’t be for show.
Yet, Ye Feng smirked viciously. He gripped it by its pale neck and ripped the seals with a sinister laugh.
"For Earth! Hahaha!"
"Shit, this madman." Adam propelled his spears, cursing.
However, green energy erupted from the corpse in a swirling waltz. Like a starved beast, it devoured his mana in the blink of an eye and enveloped Ye Feng in a crackling cocoon of green fire.
As soon as it appeared, the demonic cleaver’s insidious whispers reverberated in Adam’s mind. "Such nostalgia. I love that sll."
