Chapter 312: Chapter 308: Sticky Rice Dumpling is Ready Chapter 312: Chapter 308: Sticky Rice Dumpling is Ready “Old Tom, when you didn’t breathe pure oxygen, what was your highest underwater breath-holding record?”
The long-silent Taotie suddenly spoke up.
Tom was startled by Taotie’s question.
“Underwater breath-holding record without pure oxygen?”
Tom asked in return.
“Yes!”
Taotie nodded, “How long?”
Without a second thought, Tom answered, “18 minutes!”
“Whew…”
Taotie let out a breath, “18 minutes should be enough!”
An 18-minute underwater breath-holding record revealed Tom’s talent as a top assassin. Underwater breath-holding, an extre sport, with a world record holder who had pre-breathed pure oxygen to increase the oxygen content in their body, was only 24 minutes and 33 seconds.
Tom could do 18 minutes without pure oxygen.
That was incredibly strong!
“In a mont, listen to my command, when I say breathe in, you breathe in, and right after that you start holding your breath. If the Old Zongzi in the coffin doesn’t leave, even if it kills us, don’t you dare breathe!”
Taotie warned with a stern face.
Although he didn’t understand why, Tom still nodded, indicating he rembered.
Seeing Tom’s confusion, Taotie explained, “This Zongzi thing, its eyes are just for show; it identifies its hunting targets by the scent. If you don’t breathe, it won’t be drawn to you by your breath.”
After hearing Taotie’s explanation, Tom gave a thumbs up, “Wow, aweso!”
“It’s always enlightening to be with you!”
Upon hearing this, Taotie’s eyes widened instantly.
“Damn!”
“Tom has been corrupted by Princess Your Highness!”
Taotie inwardly exclaid in shock.
Not bothering to explain to Tom that being enlightened isn’t always a good thing, Taotie peeked inside the copper coffin, saw that the transformation of the corpse was complete, directly opened the Old Zongzi’s mouth, and scooped out a Jade Cicada, then prised out a Jade Token that the Old Zongzi was pressing down on.
“What a pity…”
Looking at the two jade artifacts in his hands, Taotie shook his head regretfully and swung them towards the entrance of the tomb chamber.
One of these jade artifacts was specially treated by magicians to control corpse reanimation; with the artifact on the corpse, although it would undergo transformation, it wouldn’t animate. By removing this magic artifact, the corpse would instantly turn into a Zongzi and climb out of the coffin.
If one had to explain it with modern science, the magic artifact was like a switch suppressing the magnetic field of the corpse. With it, the magnetic field causing reanimation in the corpse would be suppressed. Without the artifact, the magnetic field would erupt, and the corpse would rise on its own.
As for how ancient Taoists or magicians were able to freely control such a magnetic field, Taotie didn’t know; one could only say that its existence was reasonable.
After all, ancient people were capable of it; it had just been lost over ti.
Hearing scratching noises from nails coming from inside the coffin, Taotie knew it was really reanimating.
Without thinking further, Taotie shouted to Tom, “Breathe in!”
Before the words were fully out, Taotie had already taken a deep breath and entered the breath-holding state.
Tom did the sa, imdiately beginning to hold his breath.
Outside the tomb chamber, rcenaries of Ragnarok were studying the two jade artifacts thrown out by Taotie when the corpse inside the Golden Horned Copper Coffin silently sat up, sniffing around.
It quickly turned its head toward the outside of the tomb chamber.
Seeing the tall, dark-haired monster standing in the coffin, Tom’s eyes widened, and he almost let out the breath he was holding.
Lucky for him, Taotie was quick to cover his mouth, preventing Tom from exhaling.
The Old Zongzi stood in the copper coffin, sniffed again, and climbed out, step by step, heading toward the outside of the tomb chamber. The “thud, thud” of its footsteps was very heavy.
The rcenary on guard outside imdiately spotted the terrifying Old Zongzi. In fright, they scread, raised their submachine gun, and sprayed bullets at the Old Zongzi. The bullets hit the iron armor on the Old Zongzi, “clanging” as they got embedded in the armor, deforming it, but aside from being knocked back a few steps by the impact, the Old Zongzi was unaffected and continued bouncing toward the outside of the tomb chamber.
Seeing this, the rcenary was terrified.
“Ahh!” screaming and scrambling toward a side, the rcenary’s actions caught the attention of the other rcenaries, who also stopped examining the Jade Cicada, picking up their guns and gathering at the tomb chamber’s entrance.
Seeing the towering figure of Old Zongzi, the rcenary squad leader thought it was the Taotie that had erged.
He imdiately raised his gun and fired a flurry of bullets at Old Zongzi. After the bullets ran out, the squad leader was stunned.
Disbelievingly rubbing his eyes, he imdiately changed the magazine and commanded the other rcenaries to fire.
Those soft-shelled shrimp from Dahan, having never seen such a scene before, were already scared stiff.
The faint-hearted had already followed the first rcenary’s lead and were scared stiff.
“Dammit, Axi!”
The squad leader cursed and pulled the trigger.
He continued firing at Old Zongzi.
At the sa ti, he lifted his foot and kicked a rcenary beside him.
“Fire, now!”
The squad leader’s voice broke from shouting.
It was unclear if it was from fright or from shouting.
The kicked rcenary ca back to his senses.
He imdiately called for his comrades to start firing together.
For a mont, the entire tomb chamber inside and out was filled with the “rat-a-tat-tat” of submachine guns and the “ding dong” sound of tal bullet casings hitting the ground.
Under the firepower web ford by the rcenaries’ submachine guns, Old Zongzi was forced to keep retreating, his tal armor riddled with bullets and turned into a sieve.
Even his chest had been shot through.
But Old Zongzi was still unaffected.
Determinedly, he lunged toward the rcenaries.
A monster that couldn’t be killed by bullets, these rcenaries, hardly elites, had never seen before.
Finally—
One of the rcenaries was scared senseless.
With a bizarre scream, he threw away his gun and, crying out, scrambled away.
His path was marked by a trail of wetness.
Clearly, he had been scared into urinating himself.
As the saying goes, when the soldiers falter, it’s like a mountain crumbling!
When the first deserter appeared, the second and third soon followed, and then they collapsed into disarray.
Soon, other than the squad leader, there were no other rcenaries to be seen at the entrance of the tomb chamber.
With the sound of an empty chamber clicking, the squad leader ca back to his senses.
The squad leader removed the empty magazine, preparing to load a new one.
Just as he finished loading and was ready to shoot, a shadow suddenly lood over his head.
The squad leader stiffened and looked up blankly.
A giant face covered in black hair and with a fierce expression burst into his field of vision.
“Oh, Axi…”
The squad leader exclaid in shock, wanting to fire.
However, his neck was violently grabbed by a pair of furry hands, and before he could struggle, he was fiercely lifted, the intense sensation of suffocation overwheld him.
He could no longer focus on firing his gun and instead pulled out a Dagger, wildly stabbing at Old Zongzi.
Once!
Twice!
He stabbed countless tis, but the squad leader’s movents grew weaker and slower…
