âIâm not helping,â Xu Zimo replied flatly.
The God Emperor was momentarily stunned, then said, âYouâre not even going to ask what itâs about?â
âWhat else could it be besides the Heaven's Will?â Xu Zimo countered. âWhat else would make you e out of hiding and risk exposing yourself?â
âYou even know that?â The God Emperor studied Xu Zimo carefully, his gaze sharpening. âSeems youâre even more capable than I thought.â
âI have a question for you,â Xu Zimo said.
âGo ahead,â the God Emperor nodded.
âWhy does every generationâs Grand Emperor seal the spatial gate to the Primordial Demon Cave?â
âYou seem very interested in matters concerning the demons,â the God Emperor frowned slightly, then answered, âThat place is home to a race of bloodthirsty, cruel, inhuman monsters. If the spatial gate is breached and those creatures descend upon the Primordial Heartlands, it would be mass slaughter, rivers of blood.â
âHow do you know theyâre inhuman? Have you ever seen them with your own eyes?â Paimon asked coldly.
âThat was the decree of the Sage,â the God Emperor replied. âThat spatial gate wasnât just sealed in the era of Grand Emperors. From the Legendary Era onward, beings of great power in every era have added seals to it. Whether those demons are truly cruel or not, precaution is always wise. If the worst happens, who would bear the consequences?â
âAnd who is this Sage?â Xu Zimo asked, frowning.
âLegend says that in the distant Legendary Era, when all beings had just started cultivating and were still very weak, they were preyed upon by powerful, naturally born monsters.
Then, one day, a child dressed in Daoist robes riding a green ox appeared. He walked across the Primordial Heartlands, slaying those monsters wherever he went. He gave the weak a sliver of hope to survive,â the God Emperor explained. âOnce the world grew stronger, the boy disappeared. People called him âThe Sageâ in his honor.â
After the explanation, the God Emperor smiled. âNow, can we talk about my matter?â
âThis eraâs Heaven's Will is mine,â Xu Zimo said bluntly. âI know you want it too. That makes us enemies, doesnât it?â
âNo, no,â the God Emperor quickly shook his head. âI have no interest in this eraâs Heaven's Will. We could be partners.â
Hearing that, Xu Zimo paused, a bit surprised. âDidnât your Heaven's Will shatter in that battle?â
âYou said it yourself, it shattered, but it didnât disappear,â the God Emperor replied. âAnything broken can be reforged.â
âWhat do you want my help with?â Xu Zimo asked.
âIâve researched countless ancient texts and secret histories and learned of one thing that could help reforge my Heaven's Will. For centuries Iâve searched the Primordial Heartlands in secret, but found nothing,â the God Emperor sighed.
âWhat thing?â Xu Zimo asked.
âThereâs a legendary item called the Myriad Dao Lotus,â the God Emperor said slowly and deliberately.
Xu Zimo froze. He knew exactly what that was.
The Myriad Dao Lotus had eight petals, each with its own color: white, black, red, yellow, green, blue, purple, and gray.
Each petal had incredible, unique powers.
It was said that Grand Empress Hongtian was the only person in history to gather all eight petals.
Before ascending, she left the green lotus in the Sword-Cleansing Pool of the True Martial Sacred Ground, to help cultivators attune to their weapons.
The white lotus was left in the inheritance of Baili Xiao.
As for the remaining petals, their whereabouts were still unknown.
âThe Myriad Dao Lotus can help you reforge your Heaven's Will?â Xu Zimo asked curiously.
âTo be precise, itâs the red lotus I need,â the God Emperor explained quickly. âIt has the power to condense Dao resonance. If I have it as the core, I can rebuild my Heaven's Will.â
âWell, Iâm sorry to say this,â Xu Zimo said, shaking his head, âbut we donât have the red lotus in the True Martial Sacred Ground.â
âNo, go back and dig through your sectâs ancient records,â the God Emperor insisted. âMany things are written in those ancestral archives. Youâll definitely find something about the lotus.â
Xu Zimo looked at him, then chuckled. âIf you want info on the red lotus so badly, why not go straight to my father at the True Martial Sacred Ground instead of asking me?â
âThatâs different. If you help me, then I owe you a favor. But if I go straight to your sect, it has nothing to do with you,â the God Emperor said with a smile. âYou understand, right?â
âOh, I understand,â Xu Zimo said. âWhat I see is that youâre afraid to go to the True Martial Sacred Ground.â
The God Emperor fell silent for a moment, then finally said, âOne of the three emperors who ambushed me back then was Grand Emperor Bing Xue.â
She was the ancestor of the Chi Imperial Clan, the one who elevated them to the status of an imperial lineage.
Xu Zimo nodded slightly. That explained a lot.
There was a story between Grand Emperor Bing Xue and the True Martial Sacred Ground. Not with the Chi Imperial Clan, just her personally.
If the God Emperor reformed his Heaven's Will and ascended, it was certain heâd go seek revenge.
Naturally, the True Martial Sacred Ground would stand by Grand Emperor Bing Xue.
âŠ
âGive me one good reason to help you,â Xu Zimo said with a smirk.
The God Emperor immediately answered, âIâll be your protector when you bear the Heaven's Will.â
âNo need,â Xu Zimo shook his head.
The God Emperor glanced at Paimon, then said, âHe canât be your protector. He has his own mission.â
âAs the Holy Son of the True Martial Sacred Ground, do you think I lack protectors?â Xu Zimo replied with a laugh.
The God Emperor was caught off guard, he hadnât considered that Xu Zimo was backed by a top-tier imperial lineage.
âThere are many treasures within the Elden Lands, friend. Anything you like, you can take,â the God Emperor offered. âPerhaps name your terms, we can negotiate?â
âWhat I want, you canât give,â Xu Zimo smiled, shaking his head. âBut Iâm not unreasonable. If youâre willing to serve under me, then Iâll help you search for the red lotus.â
â....You want a Grand Emperor to serve you?â The God Emperor wasnât angry, he just raised an eyebrow.
âSome people sit high on their pedestals for so long, they forget what itâs like to fall,â Xu Zimo said calmly. âBut once they fall, youâll see, theyâre just like everyone else. Grand Emperors arenât invincible. Why is it impossible? Youâve already been dragged off your pedestal, what pride do you have left?â
Xu Zimo stared directly at the God Emperor, aiming to shatter his pride and dignity, tearing away all illusions with cold, hard truth.
âLetâs talk about another condition,â the God Emperor finally said after a moment of silence, shaking his head.
