“Should we send people to seal off the area, to keep her from escaping?” one elder asked cautiously.

“No need,” Desolate Emperor replied coolly. “To suppress her is nothing more than a flick of my wrist. Why bother others?”

“I simply wish to see what she intends to do.”

On the arena altar, Lu Zhi’an looked at Wu Zhaodi, his eyes full of hatred, though, if one looked carefully, there was also fear hidden within that hatred.

He had been part of Celestial Luan God Realm for decades. His talent was outstanding, his performance always remarkable.

But no matter how hard he tried, he could never surpass Wu Zhaodi.

Every sect competition, he was always second place, forever the runner-up.

She was like a mountain descending from the heavens, pressing down on him until he could barely breathe.

In the year since she’d been gone, he had finally enjoyed the glory of being first.

“You ca back just to die?” Lu Zhi’an said coldly.

“Not bad, you’ve grown up a bit. At least you know how to posture now,” Wu Zhaodi replied calmly.

“What’s wrong? Are you afraid to fight ?”

“Believe it or not,” Lu Zhi’an said darkly, “if I give the order right now, the elders will rush in and seize you. But I haven’t done that, because I want to defeat you myself.”

“Fine,” Wu Zhaodi said, waving him forward. “I’ll give you that chance.”

Lu Zhi’an let out a long roar. The sharp intent of his spear surged as white energy stread between his hands, condensing into a pillar of light.

When the light faded, a long spear appeared in his grasp.

He stepped forward, spear tip aid straight at Wu Zhaodi, and thrust fiercely.

“You’re not good enough,” Wu Zhaodi said, shaking her head.

A current of energy swirled between her hands as well.

This was one of Celestial Luan God Realm’s special secret techniques, allowing a weapon to rge with the user’s spirit energy, stored within the body, and summoned at will.

Her weapon appeared, a long purple hook, the tip glinting with an icy, bone-piercing light.

When the spear lunged toward her, Wu Zhaodi’s hook flicked forward, catching the tip.

She used the force of his thrust to lift the spear upward.

“Trident Spear!” Lu Zhi’an shouted.

The spear tip suddenly split into three, striking from three different directions.

But Wu Zhaodi remained calm.

Holding the hook with her left hand, she grabbed the spear shaft with her right, turned her body, and flipped him clean over her shoulder.

Forming seals with both hands, a phantom Celestial Luan flashed behind her.

The next mont, Lu Zhi’an’s body was sent flying backward.

“You’re not good enough,” Wu Zhaodi said coldly. “With a master like yours, what could you possibly have learned?”

Lu Zhi’an’s face darkened. Powerful energy erupted from his body.

A sharp cry echoed as a giant Celestial Luan phantom, thousands of ters tall, unfurled its wings behind him, its eyes dark and proud.

Every disciple of Celestial Luan God Realm cultivated the Celestial Luan as their destined spirit beast, so this wasn’t surprising. The strength of each Celestial Luan reflected the strength of its master.

“Kill!” Lu Zhi’an roared.

The Celestial Luan behind him detached from his body, becoming a beam of light that tore through the void like paper and charged at Wu Zhaodi.

But she was not to be outdone. A Celestial Luan of her own spread its wings, raining down feathers like a storm of blades.

Her Celestial Luan was more graceful, its movents flowing like silk.

The two divine birds clashed in midair, and the spirit pressure surrounding both cultivators grew stronger and stronger.

“Star-Shrouding Cold Moon, Heaven-Burning Sun!” Lu Zhi’an shouted as his aura surged.

Above his Celestial Luan appeared a cold moon, a blazing sun, and a sky full of falling stars.

The Celestial Luan transford into a brilliant beam of energy that burned and froze everything in its path as it shot forward.

“Sun-Moon Unity, Celestial Luan Thunder Cry!”

Wu Zhaodi unleashed her full power as well. Thunder gathered across her Celestial Luan’s body, its wings crackling with purple lightning.

The two spirit beasts collided again, purple arcs of lightning exploded across the sky, thunder roaring like the end of the world.

“Who do you think will win?” Grandpa Wang asked, turning to Xu Zimo.

“They look evenly matched,” Xu Zimo said. “Both have solid fundantals. It’ll depend on who has the stronger finishing move.”

“I believe in Zhaodi,” Grandpa Wang said firmly. “I’ve watched her grow up, she won’t disappoint.”

Xu Zimo only smiled silently. In truth, he also believed Wu Zhaodi would win.

The Celestial Luans separated once more.

Wu Zhaodi’s was still wreathed in lightning, power surging.

Lu Zhi’an’s, on the other hand, was tattered and covered in wounds.

The difference was plain to see.

“Still want to keep going?” Wu Zhaodi asked.

“You forced to this!” Lu Zhi’an snarled, his expression twisting with rage.

High above, an elder looked nervously toward Desolate Emperor.

“Realm Lord, shall we separate them?” he asked carefully.

“Separate them? Why?” Desolate Emperor said casually. “Are you afraid Zhi’an will lose?”

The elder fell silent.

But anyone could see that Lu Zhi’an was at a disadvantage.

“Is Senior Brother Lu going to lose?”

“No, wait, look! There’s sothing strange about his Celestial Luan!”

The disciples below began to murmur as Lu Zhi’an’s Celestial Luan started bleeding.

One drop. Then another.

In just monts, its entire body was dyed crimson.

“Blood Luan…” soone whispered in shock.

“You didn’t expect this, did you?” Lu Zhi’an said with a sinister grin. “My master created this, an evolved form of the Celestial Luan, more violent and powerful than any before.”

The Blood Luan’s face was sly like a fox, its eyes sharp and predatory like an eagle’s.

It dove forward faster than sight itself, Wu Zhaodi’s Celestial Luan barely had ti to react before the Blood Luan’s beak clamped around its neck.

The pain of the soul wound instantly hit Wu Zhaodi. She groaned, her body trembling, her aura flickering.

The Blood Luan pressed its advantage relentlessly.

Its wings were like blades, its beak like a knife, each strike left new wounds across Wu Zhaodi’s Celestial Luan.

“Surrender! You can’t beat !” Lu Zhi’an shouted in triumph.

But Wu Zhaodi said nothing.

The two Celestial Luans clashed again and again, until finally, her Celestial Luan could no longer hold out.

Its enormous form fell from the air, dissolving into mist as it vanished.

“It’s over,” Lu Zhi’an exhaled, his face easing as if years of frustration had finally lifted.

“Do you know why your master was so desperate to capture ?” Wu Zhaodi’s voice suddenly ca from ahead.

Lu Zhi’an frowned, waiting for her answer.

“That’s because the Celestial Luan we use isn’t its final form,” she said with a faint smile.

“In truth… its real na is Heavenly God Luan.”
