Normally, any attack should’ve been avoidable or, at the very least, detectable to Novus by virtue of his Sensory Expansion technique, but this ti, it wasn’t completely the case.
In the first place, the needles are small, too small that he can barely see the path of attack it will take, and in addition to that, so of them ca through multiple tricky, weird angles that he can barely see.
As a result, one of them hits him clean on the neck.
’That should deal with this brat...’ seeing one of her needles landing clean, Venica thought to herself as she revealed a faint, confident smile on her face, taking a step forward as she intended to deal with the other person as well.
Her eyes turned serious as she knew it too: the true monster she’s going to face is the lady wielding the blade, the Sword Princess, whose combat prowess reaches the point that she’s already on par with most of the staff that oversees the exam.
And she’s one of "most of the staff", aning that while she still has the advantage of experience and accumulation, her opponent, the eldest daughter of the Heavenblade Great Clan, still poses a real threat to her.
What she fails to realize right now is the fact that it is not only the master of the blade that is a threat to her being, as in fact, there is another one that is of the sa level, if not even worse.
’H-How...’ as she took steps closer, waiting for Novus to fall unconscious so that she could start dealing with her main target, Venica couldn’t help but think in doubt as she watched an unbelievable unfolding of events, the needles that she so relied on to incapacitate all of her previous opponents failing her in such a crucial situation.
Novus lifts his hand, pinching the needle lodged on his neck before pulling it out without hesitation, taking a good look at its darkened tip before using Sensory Expansion once again, but this ti, on himself.
’Poison...’ he thought as a stinging pain hit his head right at that mont, causing his lips to twitch a little before the effects of True Immortal Blood began kicking in, the quickly acting toxin spreading all across his body, being torn apart as not only his talent, but the ability that cos with it works along to purge him of the danger threatening his safety.
[Immortal Energy: 1029/1079]
And it shows how dangerous, or rather, how potent that paralyzing toxin is, to the point that he spent quite a significant amount of Immortal Energy that could’ve allowed him to completely recover, cleanly severing limbs so couple of tis.
"Avoid that needle as much as possible, Senior dea." He warned as he turned around, seeing the battle-ready look on the Sword Princess’ eyes.
"You don’t need to tell , Junior Novus~" she said with a light tone, yet the concern and worry could not be hidden in her voice, such concern making him smile as a thought appeared in his mind.
’It would be nice to have a companion like her in the Evolution Domain...’ those thoughts pop up in his head only for him to purge them away as he felt like it is nothing sort of miracle if that brutal domain were to allow him to bring companions inside, especially when he feels like the domain itself particularly enjoys toying with him with all sorts of surprising, violent deaths.
As the thought fades, he prepares for battle, willing mana towards his palm, the great amount swirling, making both dea and Venica conclude that he is going to do sothing big.
’That mana blade.’
’Another fireball?’
However, despite knowing that he’s going to make a move, the two diverges when it cos to their conclusion, their opponent already preparing for the spell that is about to co as an azure magic circle appeared in front of her stave, a wall, no, a barrier of water forming not only in front, but also around her as she prepares for the brunt of the magic attack.
Monts passed, but that expected aftershock from the fireball never ca inside her barrier, making her wonder whether the young man’s attack was weaker than she had previously estimated.
That’s when she noticed it, a faint, white streak forming right in front of her, that streak gradually getting larger, along with her eyes widening in distress as she saw an arm piercing through her barrier.
It doesn’t end there, as the slash continues to rip her barrier apart, making her feel a looming threat that she has never felt since she began her hunt, prompting her to dispel the barrier and create so distance between them; any more ti maintaining it will only be a waste of mana and ntal energy for her.
A mistake, to say the least, as the mont the barrier is dispelled, the threat is no longer Novus, but transferred to dea instead, her figure swiftly moving past the opening Novus created, her gaze sharp and determined as she thrusts forward, intending to end this battle in a single, life-taking attack.
Venica responded in kind, the magic circle ant to will the wind to create distance between her and her opponent by moving herself away, quickly changing shape and form as she pointed it towards the lady approaching her.
"Kya—" wind wrapped around dea’s arms, making her squeal in surprise, the wind forcing her attacking hand backward before the force gradually pulled her entire body back as well.
Thrown up in the air and barely having anything to defend herself with, dea noticed that their opponent didn’t plan to stop at just throwing her away; another magic circle ford as a pure blue glow appeared, not a stream of water but spikes of ice instead.
’Three??’ seeing yet another elent, dea is taken by surprise; after all, being a dual elental mage is already rare and all, but seeing three elents being controlled by a single individual spells that said individual is anything but normal.
Knowing that it wasn’t the ti to be more surprised, however, she began bracing herself for the impact, moving her arms to cover her head, neck and torso so that she wouldn’t be severely injured by the incoming attack.
That’s when she felt it, another pair of arms wrapping around her being before she felt the air on her skin, said wind hitting her body from down below, making her aware that she is falling, quicker than she expected, right now.
Directing her gaze towards the figure holding her right now, no words, no cheeky remarks ca out of her lips when they normally would, only a curious and intrigued gaze as she stared at his serious face.
"Are you hurt, dea?" his body moved all of a sudden, and before he noticed he even leaped, he was already back on the ground with his companion in tow, an obvious trace of worry leaking out of his voice, said worry not even making him realize how he just called her right now.
"Nn." as he set her down on the ground, there was but one sound that ca out of her lips as she shook her head, still a bit distracted by his previous expression.
"How sweet, how very sweet of the freshman, but..." watching this, Venica couldn’t help but remark in a spiteful tone, her words pausing for a bit as she clapped her hands, the air around her changing a little bit before she continued with her words.
"...is it really the ti to be acting like that?" that question is laced with imnse danger- danger that Novus’ honed, sharp senses picked up first as he felt multiple strong beings approaching their location, causing his expression to turn into a more serious one as concerns began piling up.
