Chapter 424: Knight In Shining Armor
Ilse looked like she had run a marathon for three days straight without rest.
She shuddered and could barely stand on her feet. It was as though her weight was too much for her to carry.
I would understand that considering the fact that the sheer size of the body parts she had decided to burden herself with was beyond great.
She staggered back, but I moved there in time and held her by the waist, supporting her.
“How do you feel?”
I asked in a very gentle tone.
“I… my essence…” She struggled to put her words together properly.
A subtle frown fell on my face as I watched her.
It was clear to me from the beginning, not everyone had the pool of essence that I was fortunate to have. To top it all, I was capable of refilling mine in a very unexpected but effective manner. Brunhilde’s fortitude was high, and she was of an equally high tier, this meant she was demanding a whirlwind of essence that Lady Ilse couldn’t possibly easily meet.
Then there was this young man that called himself Altharion.
“I have to…”
She had not finished speaking, as Altharion’s axe drove towards Brunhilde, she slammed the first away with her sword, and as usual, it shattered, Altharion was already hurling the second in the same breath.
But before it could cleave her neck, she uncharacteristically vanished. His hand stopped halfway with stunning sharpness and his gaze slowly turned to our direction.
He was looking at Lady Ilse, which I was beside of course.
“As expected of you to kill the fun… just when things are about to get interesting you take your damn summon away. And what are you going to do now? Who will be left to protect you?”
He looked at his axe and spun it casually with one hand.
“Oh, of course… there’ll be no need to be protected if you give me a name?”
Lady Ilse bent down did not respond. She only kept looking at him with so much hatred.
I paused for a moment, and considered my interest.
‘Side Altharion or Side Ilse.’
What was even there to think about. Even though I had no backstory whatsoever, the choice was easier to make than ten other situations I had found myself in.
Lady Ilse had a big fat butt, and heavy chest. If I could win her with this manly act, I would have her all over me and then before you knew it, she had given me an entire estate like White Feather had given me her Clan.
‘Moreover, I’m not going to let it go, just when I find a link to Kassie’s past, I’m not going to let it go.’
At that moment, Altharion seemed to sense something. He shifted his gaze to me all of a sudden, as if he was just noticing that I was here too.
He smiled cunningly.
“Oh my friend. Do. Not. Do it.”
His smile slowly faded.
“While it is not an unwele idea, I strongly advise you not to entertain the idea of fighting me.”
I slowly shifted away from Lady Ilse, there was a diagonal blood stain across my torso and the pain, even though shallow, was still biting, especially after slamming my back against a tree.
A mocking scoff escaped my mouth.
“Someone has things twisted here…”
I gave him a derisive look put together with a forced grin.
“You seem to be the one who is not getting something straight, young man Altharion.”
Every second of what I was saying was making my heart beat harder.
It was like my damn mind chose that time to remind me of what a danger this guy was.
First of all, those damn Snow Birds, he somehow came out of it. Then the strange colossal beast, a freaking Apex tier, level nine! He killed it.
And now, here I was, wanting to defend a lady I just met from him.
‘This must be the most foolish decision I have made, no?’
In my defense, I had made a lot of awesome decisions. And this was fact, not up for debate.
I fixed my gaze on him, taking slow, steady steps towards him.
“You clearly don’t know who I am so I will tell you. I have a nun that will ruin your entire being, redesign your body with holy scars you’ll never be able to recover from. I have an Empress, a tyrant for that matter, she will step on you and make you call her mommy without even asking you to… And me… I am someone who will fuck up your life in one minute. Don’t try me.”
At this point, I was less than ten meters away from him.
“Now, let’s make this easy for ourselves, don’t you agree…”
I pointed back to Lady Ilse over my shoulder.
“That lady belongs to me… and I demand that you leave now. And I will be merciful to you… I’m saying walk away and avoid the misfortune that is about to befall you.”
He was silent for a long while.
On his face was frozen a small smile. His gaze was uncharacteristically glued to me.
Then he turned to Lady Ilse behind me again.
“Is he the one?”
I frowned displeasingly. She frowned too.
“What? I clearly don’t know this young man.”
Then he looked at me and laughed.
“Right? There’s no way he would be this one. This one looks quite dumb, there’s no way he’d be trying to unite five nations and create an Empire.”
His words struck a deep chord in me and at once, a furious grimace covered my face.
“What? Wait… what do you mean… you know what forget about it… e at me.”
He looked me over with a small smile.
“Stranger, please don’t get yourself mixed up in all of this. Step away.”
His gaze upon me burned deeply.
“I am going to say this again… and for the last time. Step… Away.”
The night tensed with a strange and cold silence.
Then I grinned.
“Make me.”
